A list of puns related to "Italian Co belligerent Army"
Seems like the French lost all their armoured divisions after the fall of France, and the Italians mostly after the British took Libya, and then the rest when the Germans took Rome. Did any French/Italian tanks survive and were used in their campaigns with the Allies? Did they create any new armoured divisions or were there ones not destroyed in the first place? I've seen a few French Shermans, was that mostly what they were equipped with?
Thanks.
After the armistice between Rome and the Allies, the Italian army, or a loyalist portion thereof, fought on behalf of the Allies for the rest of the war, helping the Allies push the Germans out of the country. How effective was this Co-Belligerent army? How did their troops feel, and how did the Allies feel about fighting alongside those who they had so recently fought against?
Not many people know that the Kingdom of Italy ousted Mussolini and switched sides in 1943, joining the Allies. The Germans were able to occupy and install a puppet goverment under Mussolini, the Italian Social Republic, in Northern Italy, leaving the true Italian government in charge of the south of the country. Having abandoned fascism, they were not going to keep the fasces on their roundels, and adopted a new design based on the colors of the Italian flag.
