A list of puns related to "Innermost Station"
Would the ship disappear after being redshifted as the light gets more and more distorted by extreme gravity?
Would the ship appear to be slowing down as it got further away?
Let's say that the trip to the inner station takes 1 week, and for the observer at the outer station, it takes 5 years.
How would you tell when the ship is coming back if all of the information (light) is distorted by the black hole's gravity?
How long might it take for communications between the two stations to travel?
This hypothetical is for a book I am writing so thanks in advance for the help!
We Were Mistaken
We are the Thonraxians. For two millennia, we have ruled a wide sector of this galaxy. A thousand species bend to our will, the wealth of ten thousand systems flows into our hands. The great golden throneship, symbol of Protartis the Third, the one whose many glorious titles cannot be recited in a single year, has orbited our star β undisturbed - for a millennium.
We watched 6 centuries ago as a young species, far out on the third arm, broke the bonds of their home world. They spread and colonized their home system, as so many had done before. Discovering the means to move between stars, they began to colonize other systems.
We watched as they encountered the Myβanβtrβsi. Fleeing this encounter in their remaining starships, they returned to the embrace of their home. The Myβanβtrβsi followed. For 25 long years, the Humans and the Myβanβtrβsi struggled. At long last and at great cost, the Humans pushed the Myβanβtrβsi back.
We watched as the Intrix defeated a weakened Myβanβtrβsi. The Intrix then turned to the Humans. The colonies of Humans in other systems emptied as they returned to the Human home world to repel the Intrix.
We watched as the Humans desperately fought the Shnn, the Biatlemat, the Gβgndor, the Ssslsss, and others. Then a change occurred, instead of returning home defeated or victorious, fleets entering the Humanβs system vanished - never to be heard of again. Other species sent probes and exploratory vessels. The probes fell silent as they crossed into Human space. Lifeboats and escape pods with the crews of the exploratory vessels were returned by sleek, dark ships. The crews only shook their heads when asked of their voyages.
We watched as the Humanβs star began to dim. Carefully placed observation platforms peering into Human space from afar sent reports of gigantic structures being constructed. Over time, these structures slowly joined together as the Humans formed their Dyson Sphere. Eventually, the Human star was obscured completely.
We watched as the Humans began to build on a second system. Barren with no intrinsic value, unclaimed. Over time, the star in this system dimmed and then disappeared. Slowly, over the centuries, the Humans spread, ever adding to their growing collection of Dyson Spheres. Always silent as they worked. Sleek, black ships the only sightings as they silently returned errant species who wandered into their space.
We watched as the lifeform from Galaxy 7-897 entered the edge of our

Supposedly killed on-screen only to reappear in the end, the story surprising does quite a bit with his character, more so than Halo Wars 2 which served as his introduction. Not only is Atriox's presence felt by every single character in the story, from Escharum mourning his loss and honouring his legacy to the Chief still feeling more than just the physical wounds of their fight, but the few minutes of screentime of the character we have strongly tie in with the game's central theme: mortality and choice.
To start us off, we'll focus on the first line of the game: "If you knew how you were going to die, how would you live your life differently?". When we first hear this line, the immediate impression we have was how this question was directed at the Master Chief, likely as one of the many questions Cortana had pondered with John during their time together. However, at the end of the game we learn that this question was not at all directed at the Chief, but rather to the Banished Warmaster. One final query, a final philosophical question of a machine to help Cortana decide her last act.
I found it rather interesting to pit Atriox against Cortana, as this was a dynamic I had not at all expected to be explored. But Cortana's ultimatum at the events of Halo 5: Guardians was not only directed to humanity and the Sangheili, butΒ allΒ living creatures in the galaxy. Humanity had capitulated, the Sangheili who were on the cusp of being united kicked back into the dirt, the Unggoy gleefully accepting Cortana's offer and for the first time in their history, the Unggoy began to not only survive in a dangerous galaxy, but thrived.
But what about those who refused to accept her offer, and give up their old ways? From everything we've learned of the Banished thus far, the Banished are not the kind of people who would bend the knee to psychotic narcissist. After all, that was one of the core reasons the Banished broke off from the Covenant.
The creed the Banished live by is this: "No more Prophets, no more lies. Brothers to the end". Having endured enough from the Covenant and gaining so little in return, the Banished had no reason to accept Cortana's offer.
When Atriox had been confronted by Cortana demanding his surrender, Atriox proclaimed that he will stand with himself and the organisation he had formed with the Banished.

Now, you see, like all species, humans searched for alien races in the deep dark of the void. They colonized their solar system and had made fledgling colonies in nearby systems when the Nirril contacted them.
To a human, apparently the closest comparison to the Nirril that lives on their planet is a creature called a 'gecko'. After the typical diplomatic exchange, the galactic community was surprised to learn that humans were fractured into nearly a hundred nations, both planetary and space bound.
Usually when a species begins its forays into the stars, it has already achieved total unification. But the humans laughed at the idea of any actual unified government when the Nirril brought it up to them at the time.
A few years later, the true exchange began. Technology, architecture, resources, history, culture, and of course money all were shared between the two species. Surprisingly, the human home system's asteroid belt was extremely rich in rare elements required for FTL drives.
Somehow, the human diplomats realized the worth of the material and were able to buy a few FTL drive schematics. Their scientists had apparently already came up with the idea of 'Alcubierre Drives' as they called them, and just needed a final push to begin testing
The Nirril noticed that Earth had several habitats that were very well suited to their species. After a series of complicated communications and many political maneuvers, they began to settle particularly in an area called the 'Sahara Desert', furthering the relationships of both species.
Now, what does this have to do with the current situation of the galaxy? Well, you see, the expansion of humanity into space was over twenty times faster than any species had previously recorded, apparently due to the competing interests of their nations.
Humanity had settled thirty systems around their home planet within 46 galactic standard years of their First Contact. Twenty systems which only had colonies with a few thousand inhabitants, six systems with massive industrial infrastructure being built, and four systems each with over a hundred million humans within them.
The humans say the reasons behind this exodus involved 'overpopulation', despite the fact that all sentient species known before them regulated their breeding long before this issue could hope to arise, and a 'sense of advent

Even if you keep your mouth shut, Iβll still find out exactly what youβre hiding. If you confess now, Iβm sure we can work out a plea deal. I hate to admit it, but using my abilities is tiring. It takes me a week to recover after entering someoneβs mind. If you can spare me that week of pain, Iβll make it worth your while.β
Ben gave the man a friendly smile, hoping that the enticement of a deal might grab his attention. Most intelligent people broke after that. What point was there in challenging a psychic? Even if they resisted, their innermost secrets would eventually be found out. The man, no older than forty, just stared back at Ben, barely even paying attention. Ben might have thought the man was dead, if not for the occasional movement of his eyes as he scanned the room.
βRight, silent treatment it is. You have the right to fight any evidence that is uncovered during my investigation. A copy of our findings will be forwarded to your lawyer. If you have yet to be appointed a lawyer, we will keep the report on our records for them. Questions?β Ben gave the standard spiel before picking up his notepad.
βFirst question, where were you on the night of the murder, Jacob?β Ben asked his question, staring the man in the eyes. The two shared a silent bit of eye contact as Ben waited for an image or word to appear in his mind, but nothing came up. It was blank. Giving up on that question, he tried a more direct line of questioning.
βI believe you were the one that killed Paul Malarin. Your fingerprints were on the manβs sleeve in what we believe was a revenge attack by a rival gang. Anything to say about that?β Ben stared, even removing his glasses to avoid having anything blocking his sight.
Nothing.
This had never happened to him before. How could someone have no thoughts going through their head? Sure, some of the smarter criminals would recite lyrics or try to psyche him out, but none could ever pull off this. The mind was a hopelessly honest thing. No matter how much someone tried to cover their thoughts, the truth would eventually slip. With how much information passes through the human brain every second, itβs impossible to disrupt the flow of thoughts forever.
Ben watched the dead expression of the man. Even now, his eyes were the only things moving, continuing to glance around the room without purpose. How could

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
For most people today, when they think of Lolita, they probably think of the hypersexualized "aesthetic", starting with the image of a car's rearview mirror, tightly framing the face of a fair-haired, fair-skinned girl with heart-shaped glasses and a lollipop in her mouth.
But Vladimir Nabokovβs novel, Lolita, the origin of this cultural phenomenon, is actually a thoroughly disturbing account of a pedophile and his innermost thoughts.
What's worse is he was inspired by a very real, very horrific case: The abduction and continued sexual assault of 11-year-old Sally Horner.
Some of the many covers of Vladmir Nabokov's Lolita
Sally Horner was born on April 18, 1937, in Camden, New Jersey.
She grew up in a poor, working-class household with her older half-sister, Susan, and her widowed mother, Ella Horner. Sallyβs father had killed himself 5 years prior, and Ella struggled to support their family ever since.
Sally attended Northeast School in Camden and although she was just days away from finishing fifth grade, when an opportunity to join the ranks of a popular girlβs club arose, she jumped at the opportunity.
She wasnβt exactly popular at school and this would be her ticket to the ruling classβ¦
But there was a catch.
To be accepted in, you had to pass a βtestβ.
And in this case, Sallyβs initiation involved stealing a 5-cent notebook from the Woolworths on Broadway and Federal.
Sally had never stolen anything in her life. Yet, on the afternoon of June 13, 1948, Sally entered the store, having no idea that a simple act of shoplifting would destroy her life.
Sally walked into Woolworths and made a beeline for the first notebook she could find. She stuffed it into her bag and sprinted for the exit.
Just as freedom came within her grasp, she felt a hard tug on her arm.
Above her, a thin man with sharp features and steel blue/gray eyes told her he was an FBI agent at that she was under arrest.
He had a big scar across his cheek by the right side of his nose, and another scar on his throat was poking out just beyond his shirt collar.
The βFBI Agentβ pointed across the road to City Hall, and said that thatβs w

The convoy would have to climb much further before the great terraformed plateau around the Palace would make things easier. It was the Imperiumβs great triumph to tame this unimaginably huge massif, to lay roads across it, to fill its valleys and level its most daunting summits. Ironically, of course, that was also what offered the possibility of approach.

If Rogers was nervous, Moizle certainly couldnβt tell. He was glistening with self-produced moisture, but most of the humans did so this close to the engines. His thick fingers rested on the rippled bar of the manual flow control lever, betraying no nervous twitching or tapping.
The com-light flashed to life before the captainβs voice filled the air, tight with tension. βOn my mark. Three, two, one, mark.β
Rogers yanked the handle, opening the valve that had kept a plasma flow at bay for the past six days. Moizle reared back on its hindlegs, the other four tapping and swiping at screens to monitor the spread of magmatic lifeblood through the heart of Kinnerethβs Prayer.
βTwelve percent, no problems.β
Rogers cupped a palm over a curved portion of the bulkhead around the engines. βSheβs cold.β
Moizle cocked its head 45 degrees, its dichoptic eyes allowing it to keep an eye on Rogers while the other stayed glued to the displays. βWhoβs cold?β
βThe ship. Sheβs been hunkered down for days running off batteries! This is going to be close.β
βThirty-five percent. Crewman, our ship is a sexless object. Why do you assign it a pronoun?β Moizleβs antennae waggled, the sensitive stalks useless in the context of navigating cultural schisms.
Rogers ran a hand over the sweat-damp stubble on his head while he tweaked the timing on the plasma injectors, trying to squeeze a bit more throughput out of them. βItβs human tradition. Ships are always women. Couldnβt tell you where that started.β He walked over to stand beside Moizle at the displays, his solidly built frame only rising to the mantis-like beingβs βshoulderβ at a few hairs under six feet. βIt helps us form a connection.β

βTheyβve seen us. Can you give us any more, engineering?β the captain asked, and Rogers could hear the grim set of her mouth and the fatigue they were all saturated with.
He touched the com-band on his wrist. βWeβll do what we can.β
Moizle watched Rogers clamber back into the nest of metallic conduits and insulation-coated coils that embraced the injectors. The human pulled an omnitool from his belt and tuned it to cutting mode.
