The Pakistani side of the story of the Indo-Pak war of 1971

So I've been very interested in Pakistani history recently because of the elections. I read the Wikipedia article on the 1971 war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1971). I didn't learn any recent history when I was at school in Pakistan, so all this was new to me. However, the article is very clearly written by an Indian or a group of Indian contributors, because the bias is so extremely apparent. Give it a read if you don't believe me.

I have no clue what the actual truth is, and I'm pretty sure it's not exactly how the article is describing it. It's very well referenced, but most of the references lead to old magazine/newspaper articles that shine little to no light on anything and are definitely not primary sources. So, i wanted to know if there's a book or writeup that anyone can recommend that goes into depth about the 1971 war.

Why was the United States such a staunch ally of Pakistan during and after the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war?

I was reading through the Pakistan Wikipedia page which led me to the Indo-Pakistani wars and conflicts page and I notice that the U.S. not only offered military and diplomatic support during the war but they were also one of the last nations to recognize Bangladesh as a nation. Was the war more opaque morally at the time or were there alternative motives at work?
