A list of puns related to "Indiana Pacers draft history"
The last time the pacers had a draft pick higher than #10 was in 1989 when they drafted George Mcloud at #7. Since then for the last 30 years, they haven't gotten a top 5 pick even once, which is crazy. Do you guys think the Pacers will be a lottery team this year? They are currently at 6-9 and are the 13th seed in Eastern Conference.

The team has played in the NBA since 1976 (45 years). They played in the ABA from 1967-1975.

[Indiana Pacers] TRADE: We have received a future second round pick from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for the contract of Doug McDermott, a future second round pick and the right to swap second round picks in a future draft.
The last time the Pacers drafted in the Top 9 was 1989, where they selected George McCloud with the 7th pick. Since then, they have had two picks at #10 (1996, 2010), two picks at #11 (2008, 2015), and 6 other picks between 12-14.
Unless they were to trade for a better draft pick (which, let's be honest, is highly doubtful) the streak will continue.
The closest to the Pacers for those who are curious:
The strawpoll: https://strawpoll.com/f3gprcb38
The 12th poll has ended and the 12th pick of this mock draft is Kai Jones.

No 4 Toronto Raptors Jalen Suggs
No 5 Orlando Magic Jonathan Kuminga

No 8 Orlando Magic James Bouknight
No 9 Sacramento Kings Jalen Johnson
No 10 New Orleans Pelicans Franz Wagner
No 11 Charlotte Hornets Alperen SengΓΌn
No 12 San Antonio Spurs Kai Jones
Just thought this was pretty wild. The last time the Pacers had a top 5 draft pick, they selected Rik Smits 2nd overall in the 1988 NBA Draft. Smits played 12 seasons with the Pacers and was a 1x All-Star selection in 1998.
The second team that comes even close to this record is the Spurs, whose last top 5 pick was Tim Duncan in 1997--nearly a full decade after Indiana. Even more impressive, the Pacers have still managed to achieve a 1361-1115 (.550) record since the Smits pick.
11th Pick - Domantas Sabonis (Magic, traded to OKC)
20th Pick - Caris LeVert (Indiana, traded to Nets)
36th Pick - Malcolm Brogdon (Bucks, from Nola via Sac) ROTY, All-rookie First Team
(Maybe the most '16 class in a single team?)
They are also the only NBA team to never have had a #1 overall draft pick play for them since the beginning of the Lottery Era (1985).
I have been a Pacers fan my whole life. I have also been a huge fan of the NBA draft for as long as I can remember. I often find myself flipping through the draft Wikipedia pages collecting useless information (did you know Kenyon Martin was the last college senior to be drafted #1 overall?). In my most recent journey down this rabbit hole, something dawned on me - has a former #1 pick ever played for the Pacers? I knew we havenβt had a #1 pick but was not sure if one ever suited up for the Pacers. After some research, I discovered that we have not had a former #1 pick ever play for us. After more research, I discovered that we are the only NBA team to have this be the case.
Some other interesting things (information is from lottery era only):

>The 76ers are ramping up their efforts to spark multi-team trade scenarios to move Simmons, sources said, and a fresh pool of teams has emerged as potential destinations.
> The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams interested in Simmons, sources said, although itβs unclear how much traction Philadelphia truly has on any move. > > Simmons has yet to play this season after reporting late to the 76ersβ training camp and informing teammates, coaches and front-office officials that he is not mentally ready to rejoin the team on the floor and needs to receive help. Simmons has sought help from a personal mental health specialist and gave the 76ersβ team therapist permission to speak with his own therapist, sources said. > > But itβs clear 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has his eyes set on a potential trade scenario to ship Simmons out of Philadelphia β whenever a rival team can meet his asking price. The 76ers are currently asking teams for an All-Star-caliber player and/or multiple first-round draft picks for Simmons, sources said. >
