Discussion Thread: Day One of House Public Impeachment Hearings | William Taylor and George Kent - Part II- Live Now

Today the House Intelligence Committee will hold public hearings in preparation for possible Impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump. Expected to testify are William Taylor, the top diplomat in Ukraine, and George Kent, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs.

The hearings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 EST. You can watch live online on CSPAN or PBS or most major networks.

Reportedly, today's hearing will follow a unique format, and will look/sound a bit different to those of you that are familiar with watching House hearings.

The day will start with opening statements from House Intel Chair Adam Schiff, ranking member Devin Nunes, and both witnesses, William Taylor and George Kent.

Opening statements will be followed by two 45 minute long continuous sessions of questioning. The first will be led by Chair Adam Schiff, followed by Ranking Member Nunes. The unique aspect here is that both the majority and minority will have staff legal counsel present, with counsel expected to present many, if not most, of the questions. Chair Schiff and Ranking Member Nunes are free to interject their own questions (during their respective times) as they wish.

Following the two 45 minute sessions, each member of the Intel Committee will be afforded the standard 5 minute allotment of time for their own questions. The order will alternate between Dem/GOP members.

Today's hearing will conclude with closing statements by Chairman Schiff and Ranking Member Nunes, and is expected to come to a close around 4pm EST

AITA for walking out of my house in shock over my wife’s priorities?

Would just like to preface this by saying I (37M) walked out not in malicious protest but because I wanted to cool off.

So here goes: my wife (38F) and daughter (11) got into a jokey discussion about alien invasions and apocalyptic situations.

Then my daughter asks if my wife would protect her in this situation and my wife says “ I love you more than I’ll love anybody else in the world.”

Yes, she says this in front of me. My wife then puts her arm around my shoulder and goes on to say that her father- aka me- and I would use each other as shields against any danger that comes to her. Meaning she’d gladly sacrifice me.

At that point, I picked up my keys and said “ gee thanks- go ahead and start lunch without me.” My wife suddenly gets self righteous and says there was no way I could expect to choose a spouse over a kid.

I felt like she had just shit on our entire marriage and life vows. And the principle aside, the fact I was furious I think should have been enough to excuse me leaving the house.

So I left the house and drove around to cool off.

Then I went over to my sister’s house because I told her how upset I was and as a result, she and her spouse invited me to have dinner with them.

I may have ignored some calls from my wife but she knew where I was and in addition, I just couldn’t see her or be in the house at the moment. I always felt like my wife loved the kids more than me, and it hurts.

The fact that she would hypothetically and do casually throw me to the wolves was making me question if I loved her more than she loved me and if so, why I bothered to give her my loyalty. When there could be other women, like my sister, who valued their spouse more than anything.

AITA? Not for my beliefs but for the fact that I took the time to cool off.

I needed this time because I was seriously and suddenly regretting a lot of the sacrifices I made for this woman, when it wasn’t like I didn’t have other options, women in their early twenties who have hit on me but who I ignored in favor of the woman who I thought would put me first.

What do Hoosiers think of House bill 1369?

This bill would eliminate the need for a LTCH (license to carry handgun) in Indiana, making it a constitutional carry state. I myself, am torn. I look around my community and think, ya that person probably doesnt have any felonies or records but do I trust them to carry a firearm without proper documentation? I have had a valid CCP for 15 years. Discuss.

EDIT: I am pleased to see that most of my fellow Hoosiers are commenting with common sense and respect for facts on this thread. Also changed original post to LTCH from CCP. Up north here it is just more commonly (wrongly) called a CCP or CCL.

Megathread: House committee adopts new procedures for impeachment investigation of President Trump

The Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee moved to intensify its investigation of Republican President Donald Trump on Thursday, as lawmakers edged closer to deciding whether to recommend his impeachment.

The 41-member panel met to debate a resolution allowing it to designate hearings as impeachment proceedings, subject witnesses to more aggressive questioning and quicken the pace of an investigation that is expanding into areas that could prove politically explosive for both Trump and Congress.

Committee members also hope that approving the resolution will dispel lingering confusion within the House Democratic caucus about how to describe the investigation.

TIFU By not knowing how to behave appropriately at a house party full of complete strangers.

Obligatory didn't just happen, but 8 years ago.

Be me, 18, girlfriend at the time just started uni, she was moving up North to stay in a student apartment. Wanted me to "come and meet the gang". I have terrible social anxiety.

So I get up there, and obviously the night starts with drinks. They're all poor students so drinks in the apartment. Drinking games ensue.

Now, I'm awkward and don't really know how to start a decent chat with a stranger, so what do I do?.. I hit the hard liquor... hard.

Anyone ever played that game "Roxanne"? Where you listen to Roxanne by The Police and drink when he says Roxanne.. I start this with straight vodka. Now it was BYOB so I'd brought a 70cl of vodka with me which I intended to share, did I? Nah man, I drank it within 40 ish minutes of arriving.

The last thing I recall of that night was shuffling cards.

I woke up next morning. In a bed. Really comfy, my first thought:

"Fuck I'm comfy.... Where the fuck am I?"

I roll over and see my girlfriend on the floor.

I reach over and shake her. (And at the same time also silently notice that my head feels like it was recently rattled with a hammer)

"Fuck off. Don't fucking touch me"

Obviously when this is what you're greeted with in the morning you immediately begin to panic.

I ask what I've done wrong and I get the response;

"You're covered in your own sick"

I hastily rip the covers off me.

(Context: I was wearing a blue/white tie dye t-shirt that night)

My t-shirt was now green and yellow. My jeans were damp. I asked what the fuck happened last night and this is what I am told:

Remember when I was shuffling cards? Well apparently I blacked out. I just fell to one side on the couch and went unresponsive. Everyone freaked the fuck out, 2 of the guys took my arms and legs and carried me to my girlfriends room. They lay me on the floor at which point I woke up very suddenly and exclaimed that I needed to spew.. before anyone could even move to grab a bucket I threw up down myself and curled into a ball where I continued to vomit. I stopped after producing a few puddles of vodka infused stomach juice and said I needed to go to the toilet. My girlfriends room was en suite. So she helped me up and I somehow staggered through. Now the next part is just theorised to a point but I was informed that this is likely the events that happened:

I went into the bathroom, pulled my jeans down. Began to piss fine. My girlfriend knocked after an appropriate amount of time and a

WIBTA for not allowing a group of women in my house and calling police on them if they attempt again.

I (30F) and my wife (37) just moved to a somewhat rural area. I wasn’t thrilled originally- it was for wife’s job- but I quickly got a job using my old masters degree as the local children’s librarian, found a really nice group of friends, and settled in quickly. Another important note, I am also 15 weeks pregnant.

It appears that we moved onto the “old timers” block. We are the youngest here by at least 30 years, and all our neighbors have adult children. During Covid, we were friendly but distant for safety with our neighbors, but now that things are opening up, I’ve got an issue. There is a group of 7 or so women on my block who have taken EXTREME interest in my pregnancy and my marriage. I am working from home, and more often than not, these women end up on my porch asking if I’d like to have coffee- which I quickly learnt meant in my house! Because my work is sporadic and I can often go three hours with nothing to do, I was fine at first. We sat in the backyard and company was nice. But now it’s taken a turn. Every other question is “should you do that” “should you be eating so many tomatoes with salt” (it’s a craving) “why isn’t your wife doing this” and the latest one which I shut down immediately “do you worry about lack of male presence for your child”. Or it’s just comments about what I should do for my body. It’s grown old. Recently, it’s also become “when baby arrives, I’ll watch it one day, A will watch it the next, C the day after” and so on. They did not ASK, they stated they WOULD be watching my baby. So, the recently when they’ve come over I’ve made excuses to why they could not visit, and the last two times I spoke to them, I (and wife, she was involved) have stated that their comments made me uncomfortable, they will not be watching my child, and they are not welcome to visit anymore, I will return any gifts they give. Except- they keep on showing up. I’ve ignored them, not answered the door, and when I finally answered the door to tell them to STOP, was met with a “we just love babies and want to make sure you have the best”. I’m at my wits end. Wife has had to take days off of work because she worried about me alone. I have made my mind up that the next time they show up, I’m simply going to call the police for trespassing.

That being said, a little nagging voice in the back of my head is telling me that’s too extreme, and these are little old ladies who may not mean any harm. Also, if I call the police I end any good will on our b

Discussion Thread: Day One of House Public Impeachment Hearings | William Taylor and George Kent - Live 10am EST
