[BATTLE] Moldovan War of 1508

The war begins, like all things, with a lot of walking. The Duchy of Moldova serving as the point of convergence for this ballade of bloodshed, the bordering actors all began by moving into this realm of death and destruction.

The Ottomans and its vassals, having the proximity to Moldova, had the opening moves. Marching across the border, the Turks and Wallachians began a two-pronged attack into the Duchy, respectively sieging Galati and Focsani. In the meanwhile, the Crimean horde moved westward, but their advanced scouts at the Lithuanian border alerted them to a non-insignificant Lithuanian force moving to intercept. Unwilling to let their allies be flanked or attacked in the rear, the Crimeans forwent their plans to siege eastern Moldova to instead harass and distract the Lithuanians. Unfortunately for them, the Lithuanians had the exact same idea in mind, and what would follow in that region would be a series of small engagements, feinted retreats, a perpetual back and forth at the border. When the Crimeans eventually got the upper hand in the late summer, they were lured into southern Lithuania to carry on this dancing, effectively rendering both forces inconsequential to the war in Moldova.

But we must now return to this realm in question, with the sieges of Galati and Focsani. In the series of sieges that the Ottomans would engage in, while victoriously in all, time was the precious commodity that was wasted. While the Turk struggled to finish off Galati, the Wallachians had managed to take Focsani, their success would, however, be a deadly hubris. Unwilling to engage the Turkish armies on the field, the Moldovans spent much of the early campaign burning the fields of southern Moldova, transporting cattle and sheep alike northwards, to avoid them falling into Ottoman hands. Crucially, Moldovan efforts were dedicated to countering the scouting efforts of the Ottoman army, with ambushes and raids conducted to limit the communication between the Wallachians and their overlords. This effectively rendered the Ottomans blind, or at least cautious in moving their scouts too far forward without support.

While the Ottomans had just finished sacking Galati for its stubbornness and were readying to move towards Tigheci, the Wallachians had already arrived at the gates of Adjud. Following orders, a portion of their forces moved to seize Barlad, where they are met with the core of the Moldovan army. Meanwhile, to their west, scouts reported the arrival of

Here is my climate change take.

Ever since earth formed, it had undergone shifts in climate; the latest one being around 10,000 years ago. 10,000 years ago earth started slowly warming up, and conditions were ripe for people in the Hilly Flanks to revolutionize human history. It was here 9,600 years ago seeds were sown (pun intended) for the agricultural revolution.

As human history progressed, conditions were again ripe in Great Britain to apply alternative (to human and animal) power sources to production processes. Thus began the Industrial revolution which carried us up the energy chain. Human have learnt to harness more and more energy and to channel it better.

All the while, earth's warming up never stopped. However, since the 1950s this process has been accelerated by the Industrial revolution.

In the end, it doesn't matter. There is nothing humans could do to stop the earth from heating up. In the process, we act as catalysts, helping earth warm of faster than it should actually have.

Earth actually started warming up some 20,000 years ago. But suddenly 12,000 there was a storm in North America which led to sudden drop in temperatures across the Old World (Asia, Europe and Africa). What this points to is, we don't even know if earth suddenly starts to warm up drastically tomorrow.

I doubt if any progress in technology can help us in dealing with this.

Tl;dr Climate change is inevitable, humans merely accelerated the process.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

One Hitman's Predicament.

Kill contracts given by Sid are nothing new. You receive information on the target, plan the route to the target's location, go to said location and ice him.

Then you get the hell out of there once you've taken your shot and pray the rest of his buddies don't realize something's wrong and react in time.

Of course there's always the fear that your shot wasn't fatal, hence why I always aimed for vital points like the head or heart. Or fired several times at their stomach and let them bleed out.

For a sniper, kill contracts were an easy way to earn cash with little risk and expense at yourself.

But Sid's latest job changed that.

Bandits and Renegades were usually Sid's targets of course. Nothing disrupts business like criminals doing whatever the hell they want. This time however, Sid wanted a Mercenary dead.

I knew little about Mercs at the time. All I knew were that they carried weapons from the west, were well equipped and well trained. I didn't know at the time that my target was in the center of the Dead City: a Mercenary Base.

I had only passed through the Dead City once at the time, to reach another location further north. And I stuck to the city's outskirts to avoid any detection from hostile factions. A gut feeling told me this wasn't going to be an easy job.

I took 2 weapons: an AN-94 with 4x scope for taking out the target, and a Spas-12 against any mutants I might encounter on the way to the target's location.

I entered the Dead City from the south, stalking through the tall grass, being alert for any possible threats.

Most of my targets were usually holed up in buildings surrounded by tall grassy areas or hilly terrain. This meant that I could see them and fire from a concealed, possibly elevated position.

But the Dead City was well... a city. Urban environments posed different problems to me to remain undetected and get away.

I left the last patch of tall grass in the city and headed for the nearest building, hugging the walls hoping no one would see me.

I weighed my options:

I couldn't snipe from a building, as there is a possible risk that mercenaries might be inside it.

In fact, it didn't look like I would be able to get him from a distance. My target was holed up in the eastern buildings and there weren't many openings in it. There were no angles in the city itself that I could see that would allow me to fire into the building.

I had to get up close and personal for this one.

I headed for the eastern building when sudde

Like a Stone

We were walking up the final hill to her home, hand-in-hand. The crickets and cicadas had started up their racket, and the fireflies were just starting to lift. Remembering how all my troubles bled away in the field of fireflies and stars overhead. I couldn’t be nostalgic for just the week before, could I?

β€œElias?”

β€œHm?” I asked, slowly turning my head back toward her, all kinds of feelings swimming up to the surface.

β€œWhy don’t you β€˜fit in?’”

We both startled at the same time, and she apologized before I could think of an answer. β€œSorry, that was rude. What I meant to ask, which was, β€˜I like you a lot, and find many admirable traits in you, but you say you don’t fit in. Why do you think that?’”

That was still rather blunt, but I appreciated her directness. Even if it kind of snapped me out of my pleasant reverie.

My mouth started moving before I realized the error in explaining what G-Man had said to me. Getting an accurate retelling meant explaining who G-Man was, the different roles I played in my life, and how the two were a delicate balancing act which was getting dangerously unstable. The week, heck today alone, had more ups and downs than the hilly valley we were walking out of together.

β€œI don’t think I ever have really fit in before,” I managed to say diplomatically.

Technically, I only β€˜sort of’ fit in within the insurrection. I’d showed up to a bar of malcontents, loudly dropped some ideas that they realized had some merit after the raid on the notoriously loose-lipped Scott’s residence, and then later carried out a high-profile raid that only I could do, since I was the only one small enough to climb into the pods. After that, I went from "the Little Emperor" to just β€˜Emperor.’

Being in charge meant IΒ didn’t 'fit in,' though. They thought I only spoke 'weird' because I was being a leader or β€˜displaying leadership qualities.’ I sometimes worried they’d think less of me if they realized I didn’t know of any other way to speak. I was still struggling with learning to 'speak normal,' as G-Man had so plainly put it.

β€œYou could, you know. If you put your mi

Strike at Karkand is a map that deserves to be remastered, and DICE should know that

Based on it being the most mentioned and upvoted map in a post yesterday about favorite maps of the franchise, I’d say we need to have a conversation about it for newer fans of the franchise who may not have had the chance to play it or know about it.

Strike at Karkand was originally a Battlefield 2 map which was remastered for Battlefield 3. The map centers on a light industrial suburb of Kuwait City, Kuwait, and was most popular in the Rush game mode. It plays as a largely infantry focused map, with vehicles being useful for breaking through well defended areas.

In some ways it can be compared to to Arras from BFV, in that there is a town with ample undeveloped land around it to maneuver through, but with Strike at Karkand the map has a more linear feel rather than the circular design of Arras, as there is a large waterway separating the spawns of each team, thus making most of the combat occur in a sort of horseshoe shaped string of objectives throughout the town. The undeveloped land is also more hilly than that of the farm fields of Arras, providing more cover and concealment for flanking attacks.

The original BF2 map was more expansive than the BF3 version, with the latter reducing the in-bounds area of the map to focus gameplay on the town. This lead to an even greater emphasis on urban warfare on the map and lead to intense firefights in the streets, but still lead some fans to wish the map had left in the space to move around in.

If the map were to be remastered, it would likely be based on the BF3 remaster of the map but with the playable area of the original BF2 map to better accommodate high player counts.

How to greatly improve your odds of winning Frontlines: An easy guide

DISCLAIMER: The following guide requires you to queue as a party of 4 for maximum effectiveness. You can attempt to execute the strategies detailed below with the random alliance members you get paired with, but just keep in mind that you'll have to spend the pre-battle countdown time getting them on board, whereas a premade party will have a far higher chance of coordinating successfully.

Preface - Why run Frontlines at all? Is winning really just up to chance?

(Scroll down if you want to skip right to the tips)

PVP in FFXIV has a reputation of being somewhat of a mess, but if you dive into it, there's some decent fun to be had, along with significant benefits which make it worth the time.

It seems that quite a few people are trying frontlines/PVP out for the first time thanks to the Moogle Treasure Trove Event. It's definitely a solid way of farming irregular tomestones since you're guaranteed a reward regardless of whether you win or lose, but another thing people might overlook is that your daily Frontline roulette awards a very solid amount of exp - around 50% of a full level for an average of 10-15 minutes playtime, which is highly efficient for levels 60 and up. Not to mention you'll also be accumulating wolf marks and achievements for that sweet sweet PVP gear and mount collection. You receive bonus rewards for winning, so that's an added incentive to play well.

Early in my FFXIV journey, I tried Frontlines once, had a terrible time, and never touched it again, convinced that it was an awful PVP mode. After being dragged back in by friends in the hopes of farming irregular tomestones and losing repeatedly, I was instead motivated to figure out exactly how one could increase their odds of winning in this mode. It couldn't possibly be completely up to chance. Not in a game like FFXIV where everything else is generally extremely well balanced.

I soon realized that although the sheer number of players involved creates a great amount of chaos and randomness, we do have a chance to influence the outcome of each instance due to the fact that we are able to queue as a party of 4. It's not an entire alliance, but it's enough to capture objectives and turn the tide of battle. So, how do we do it? Let's get down to the tips.

Tips/Strategies Step by Step

1. Queue as a party of 4

Ideally you would have 3 other friends who are on board with taking a strategic approach for the sake of winning.

If you don't have enough friend
