I really dont get it

As many of you have scratched your heads in sheer puzzlement at the "In"Famous Hamburger Sign, today I'm going to give you an answer.

Note 1: As a former writer/reviewer for videogame websites I made numerous contacts at various videogame companies, a few of which work or formerly worked for R*.

Note 2: I was unable to release some of this information until fairly recently due to a NDA in regards to some written work I did for an entirely unrelated project. The writing that I did was used but for a second project, which has real world application.

In addition to the above it should be added that publicly I have never mentioned any of this; however in private chats with Team Guru I kept dropping hints about the developer in question, to the point where /u/TheInsightfulWatcher and /u/Kaimeera decided to look in to it and discovered the developer's middle name.

Essentially the FHS is a thank you of sorts to a former employee who, on the first of February 2013 was brought on board to fix a broken IN GAME data object. I do not know, nor have I asked what object it was.

They fixed the object using J6 or as it's more commonly known; JAVA 6. The numbers reference the date this work was started as it's based on the dating system of another form of JAVA, namely SAS which takes it's start date as January the first 1960 and the numbers are the amount of days from there to get to 1st of February 2013, which is the day they were brought on board to help with the fix. The %0y is also a reference to the year.

The dev in question has the middle name of JEFF and is also of Italian descent hence FIGO. As has been speculated before JEFF FIGO refers to this dev, who is indeed a cool Italian as FIGO means cool in Italian.

Essentially the FHS is an in game reference to this dev and his help.

Did a quick search and found nothing of this kind of idea

Anyways the famous hamburger sign has long been a point of interest but the code on the lower sign was never deciphered. With such an odd code and nothing to go on most of the community settled on it not being mystery related.

I recently got gta next gen and have been looking at various things in first person cuz it's effing amazing. Anyways I looked at the sign and damn.

It looks just like the mural. The upper part even had 7 rays coming off it like in the mural. The mural is the only place where the "eye" has 7 rays, all other glyphs and depictions the eye has 3 rays.

Also the bottom picture of an egg cracking representing the cryptic code makes total sense (we'd be cracking the code).

The sign post itself even visually matches the line directly from the eye to the egg below it on the mural. My only current thoughts are

1. the sign is slightly mountain shaped.. maybe the X's on the mural would fall on certain letters if overlayed on the code
2. we really need to keep looking for the right cipher/solution to make sense of this damn sign

Hadn't seen this before and it was pretty logical and concrete, not crazy far fetched like things have been getting for a while sooo.. Thoughts?

After the latest flurry of post about the FHS, I once again went into the rabbit hole, using various online cipherdecoding tools, but to no avail.

I then focused on the “19390” part of the sign. While googling, I ran into this: (http://intocode.org/sas/tutorialhighcharts.php)

At first I couldn’t wrap my head around the usage of the codes (I have no coding background whatsoever). But then I found this: (http://www2.sas.com/proceedings/forum2008/168-2008.pdf)

“The first thing is of course that the SAS System stores dates, times and datetimes as numbers. Dates are counted in days from a zero point of January 1, 1960.”

That was my “AHAAAAAAA”-moment… I looked again and deducted that 19390 was SAS-code for February 1, 2013. But to be sure, I used a date-calculator, where I added 19390 days to January 1, 1960:

Now I was 100% sure that 19390 = February 1, 2013

Does this date have a particular signifance regarding GTA V? Yes it does, because on January 31, 2013, Rockstar announced that the game would be delayed and released in September 2013.

Now, to the other parts of the puzzle:

So I figured this was “just” code, and to be specific SAS-code: so I continued my google-search by combining “SAS” and “J6” . I found this:

Just some rambling, as I move in and out of this hunt like so many others:

I've always remained a Chiliad purist (focusing only on the mural and the chiliad glyphs) but have just recently thought about expanding my horizons. Why? because I feel it's notable that the color scheme of the Famous Hamburgers sign and that of the three hippy glyph reproductions is no coincidence. I don't chase Epsilon or Bigfoot or Penris or Maze, because I feel they are all their own eggs, but that freaking sign HAS to be part of the Chiliad mystery; its shape and color combination are undeniable.

I've always felt very strongly about the intentional separation of families of design in this game (which is why I personally ignore any similarity between the Altruist's symbology and that of the glyphs, for example) but there must be some connection to the red/orange and yellow color scheme used in the sign and the three hippy glyphs. Could this mean a hippy owns Famous Hamburgers? Where IS Famous Hamburgers!?

And while I was pondering the hippy glyphs again, I came to the realization that we only have three because that's all the hippies have been able to solve as well. See, I've said many times that I feel the white glyphs are intended to be old, possibly ancient, and Rockstar intended us, as players, to become involved in the hunt just as their San Andreas culture has been for decades or even centuries. So the hippies have seen the glyphs (and possibly even drew the mural) but have only recreated three of them in red/orange and yellow, because that's as far as they've gotten. They've seen the UFO as well! Standing atop Chiliad, in the rain, at 3am. We can't find the other two white glyphs redrawn in orange/red or yellow, because there are none... the hippies are stuck in the same place we are.

Has anyone ever compared the hex color codes from the different families of design? I'd be interested to know if Famous Hamburgers uses the exact same red/orange and yellow colors as the hippy glyphs, and - as much as I'd hate to see it - the Altruist's graffiti...

As a community we have been somewhat scattered, which can be a good and a bad thing. It can be good because it stops us from herding like sheep and walking the same ground over and over again(although some of us inevitably do), but I think it is time we all focused on 1 or 2 of the most tantalizing things in the game.

Now there are many clues and hints scattered throughout the game. 99% of these of these clues or hints come in the form of metaphors or symbols. These are all great and dandy but symbols offer too much room for interpretation. Don't ignore the symbols and metaphors but take them for what they are.

We have had a cipher staring us in the face since day 1. for those that don't know what I'm talking about, read up here:

Now anyone that calls themselves a hunter(myself included) should be embarrassed that this game has been out for 2 years and no solution to this sign has been found. It is obviously some sort of puzzle located at the foot of the mountain that we all obsess over. The symbolic stuff needs to be secondary in terms of priority at this point in time. Now the yoga and the sun, all of that is probably relevant but this cipher is DATA, it could give us the insight needed to correctly apply all these clues and hints.

I see users that claim the mystery is DLC or that there is nothing to solve, but none of them take this sign into account. I see people who are 100% believers with intricate theories who also, do not take this sign into account. I have taken a stab at this sign multiple times but I'm definitely not going to figure it out alone.

Let us also not forget the hippie camp code which rides the fence between cipher and symbol:

I am calling for all users of this community to contribute at least a fraction of the brain power you would use commenting on the sub into figuring out these ciphers, a momentary pause in the file digging, yoga, space docking, mountain climbing, and everything else. Lets cut the crap guys, if you want a puzzle then there it is, now solve it.

edit: IMO the %0Y part is all we got. It tells us to format a year to 4 places. We apply this to 19390 and we get 1939, the year of the jetpack in the film, the rocketeer and also the same year the je

Notice anything? Yeah that's right, it's the entire alphabet + numerals and special characters. More about that later.

You might wonder how I know this is indeed the texture for the sign. Well look at the top left part. That's the texture for the sign itself. Now look at a picture of the back of the sign http://i.imgur.com/8fZYbVY.jpg

The "smudges" or "dark spots" match perfectly. Also the shape matches perfectly. I suspect the blue texture is also present at the back side of the sign. It looks to be the vertical attachment things. (Not 100% sure)

I don't know what the metal textures are at the right bottom half as I couldn't find them close to the sign.

Back to the alphabet What does this mean? Why did R* create textures for the entire alphabet, numerals and special characters attached to the sign? Did they do it because they needed to recycle them for other textures? Or does this mean we can change the message on the sign? I'm not sure.

So my question to you is; have you seen these textures used any where in the game other than the sign? Or are we on to something here?

Ok so I know everyone thinks this sign is fool's gold at this point but here's what I got from having a crack at it. As you can see I'm including the letters above the sign because I think they are actually part of the puzzle. Famous Hamburgers the restaurant doesn't exist in the game, only this sign. Therefore, I think the famous hamburgers letters are actually part of the scramble. Some interesting things you can make include "100% Gordo Josiah Sea" "100% UFO Josiah" "100% UFO Gordo" "100% Gordo Yoga" and so on. If we work together we might actually be able to solve this thing. So, of course, when approaching and analyzing mysterious things in-game, there's some things you just can't shake off. This is one of them for me :

This seems to be a pretty obvious message, right? I mean, there's this apparent code, JD O 19390 JG JEFF FIGO %0Y, and sitting on top of it, is this:

So, you know... Obviously, this looks familiar right? I'm fully aware this is nothing new. It's also totally unsolved.

Maybe it is nothing. You know, It is located on Pyrite (fool's gold) Ave. In reality, though, aren't we all chasing fool's gold here?

So trudging forward past the preamble stated above... This is where I'm at with it, and maybe someone else is fool enough to follow me down this rabbit hole -

Looking at the code itself, it's kinda clear that this can't be just an unscramble, a segregate and rearrange type solve to this. So next you look at types of ciphers. Being that it's an alpha/numeric code, you can rule certain types of ciphers out. Which is a Homophonic Cipher, and is a little out of my league at first glance, and I'll have to do some more research on exactly how this type of cipher works. you can test it here -

But as you can see it's a little more complicated than what it seems. And, also, it could be completely the wrong way to decipher. So there's that, too.

So if anyone want's to help take a crack at this, it would be much appreciated. I'm pretty sure I have the first step right. I won't be sad if I don't. It very well could be Pyrite, too. I really think we need to rule this one out or SOLVE IT, to get any further.

Seein these new speculations about the sign, I firmly believe that it is extremely important to the mural and a gigantic hint. It contains a percent sign - why the hell would you even include that on a decorative sign - which can be used to make '100%' out of it. Combined with the 'FAMOUS HAMBURGERS' itself, you can even get words like FRIDAY out of it. I played around with it for a bit, and got

FRIDAY 100% 9:36 OMEGA UFO FOG

with the letters and numbers J9JJFHBUERSSM remaining. This would mean that you visit a UFO (Chiliad probably) at 9:36 o'clock on a Friday with fog while having 100% in the game and call Omega right then. Haven't tried it yet, as I don't know how to trigger fog. I believe that this sign is so random, so out of place, resembles the mural near-identical and is cryptic as fuck, this can't be coincidence. This is our first step, and the sign is telling us what to do. Please help me with this, this needs to be solved.
