The state of Abkhazia covers 8,660 square kilometres (3,340 sq mi) and has a population of around 240,000. Its capital is Sukhumi. It has a valued Nomimal GDP at around 500 million.
Main coin is the Abkhazian apsar. The apsar is on a fixed exchange rate, pegged to the Russian ruble (1 ruble = 0.10 apsar).
While only considered partially independent by most nations, Georgia considering it a part of Georgia, it is recognized as de facto independent by Russia,Nicaragua,Venezuela,Nauru and other breakaway states such as Transnistria, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
Main goals will be to keep being best buds with Russia, gain as much international recognition possible, invest in the development of the regional economy and of course, some nice little mayhem in the Caucasus.
After reading a bit online, I wasn't able to find a fullfyling answer on the demographic history of Abkhazia, was it Georgian ? Are the modern Abkhazs indigenous to the region ? I am looking for at least the mainstream view
Following an agreement between Georgia and the Russian Federation, the UN has agreed to host referendums in the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in order to bring an end to one of the long-standing "frozen conflicts" in the Caucasus.
South Ossetia will receive the options of:
- Unification with the Russian Federation
- Remain a part of Georgia
- Independence
Abkhazia will be the site of two rounds of referendums. The first, in the Georgian-majority area, will provide two options:
- Separation from Abkhazia and remain with Georgia
- Remain a part of Abkhazia
The second round will provide 3 options:
- Unification with the Russian Federation
- Remain a part of Georgia
- Independence
