A list of puns related to "Genesis P Orridge"
I am trying to find a song that contains the lyrics "Man you are come to the bitter end of your degradation". I could have sworn this song was on the Towards Thee Infinite Beat album (I like Black Rainbow and I.C. Water) and I thought it was called Horror House. It isn't. I am Positive that Genesis P-Orridge is the vocalist on the track.
I was never the biggest fan but definitely wouldn't be interested in electronic music without Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, etc. We lost someone important. Stay well everyone.
RIP to the engimatic and shocking Genesis P-Orrdige, one of the founding members of proto-industrial group, Throbbing Gristle, who passed away this weekend after a long battle with leukemia. He/she was 70 years old and left an eclectic legacy of forward thinking music, social derision, and unconventional ideology.
I was generally aware of Throbbing Gristle and their influence on 90s rock acts like Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy and other quintessential industrial bands however I had never really taken a deep dive on them because ... well, their music really freaks me out.
Throbbing Gristle was active from 1975-1981 with a revival in the mid-2000s.
I was always struck by the intense modulation of the vocal tracks and dark ambient nature of Throbbing Gristle. P-Orrdige often opted to sing through heavy vocoder, chorus, and flanger effects with a nasally and whine-y vocal delivery that often bordered on sounding like something out of a fever dream. Part of what interests me about this is the analog technology that these haunting vocal effects were achieved through and the unique and forward thinking production.
Not to mention when I first heard Throbbing Gristle I thought that I was listening to a B-Side or bonus track from one Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross' OSTs. Their sound truly was that modern sounding.
I have also always been intrigued by the distinct horror elements and disturbing nature of the lyrical content and intense, droning, hard panned, distorted ambient synthesizer tones that characterize their music. Their music is challenging to listen to but evokes highly emotional and deeply unsettling reactions, and (to me) this is one of the highest levels of artistic effectiveness and overall quality.
Genesis P-Orridge's own life was equally as unconventional and atypical as their work with Throbbing Gristle. Born a male, P-Orridge began his/her gender transition in the mid-1990s. His/her goal was apparently to mimic the appearance of his/her wife, Jacqueline, and emphasize the fluid nature of gender and physical appearance. He/she continued undergoing plastic surgery procedures after their partner's death in the early 2000s.
He/she was also a self described occultist whose life mission was to retaliate against mainstream conventions and challenge audiences' pe

Genesis P. Orridge died from Leukemia today. Their music seemed like a big influence on MGMT, especially the self titled.
In the 70s, Genesis P. Orridge founded Throbbing Gristle and essentially invented industrial music. Their album 20 Jazz Funk Greats is hugely influential. I really like their song Hamburger Lady. Very unsettling

Ben and Andrew have cited Genesis P. Orridge and their Psychic TV project as a huge influence. Ben put this song in a playlist for BBC when LDA came out

And Andrew called Trip Reset one of his favorite albums

All of this stuff only barely scratches the surface of Genesisβs P. Orrridgeβs incredible life. They also did really cool stuff exploring gender norms and the occult. RIP
