GameSpy Technology shutting down May 31
I know last year it was announced that Gamespy would be closing, but Gamespy had little to do with the actual gamespy game servers... This seems like they are now referring to the game servers going down and not just the media aspect of it.
Here are the final Parts 8-10, of an article addressing the main bear arguments on Paysafe. Parts 1-7 covered Paysafeโs outlook on growth, debt, and profit, along with insider ownership and competition. I recommend starting with the introduction in Part 1 (Growth), and following the links from there if still interested.
As part of Paysafeโs preparations for the next phase of growth, the company has undergone a complete management overhaul. Along with replacing nearly all the Board of Directors, in the last two years, theyโve hired a new CEO, new CFO, new CTO, new CIO, new CRO and new CISO. Theyโve hired PayPalโs Chief Risk Officer and have also filled key division CEO positions with Facebookโs Head of Payments and Amazon Intlโs Head of Payments. This does not sound like an operation with a passive outlook.
Still, many are rightfully frustrated that management has done little publicly to support the share price since going public. Despite a steady supply of positive news, the CEO has not once meaningfully engaged the media to highlight Paysafeโs value story. It may be that management is deliberately downplaying its messaging while shares move from short-term traderโs hands to those of value-seeking funds in order to better secure long-term share value. Or, they are simply focused on producing the numbers.
Regardless, what management may lack in public storytelling, it makes up for in execution. In the short time since they went public, they have announced 3 new acquisitions and over 25 expanded partnerships with the likes of Visa, Coinbase, Fubo Gaming, FOXbet, Golden Nugget, Bankable, [Wix](https://www.p

The Spy Who Loved Me is my personal favorite opening, though Casino Royale is basically tied with it. Both have fantastic songs with them that fit the character and the film, the visuals are striking (Maurice Binderโs visual designs are always a delight and the playing card theme of Royale is a personal favorite of mine) and theyโre just fucking cool to look at.
Any of the Metal Gear intros are great, but Iโll go unconventional and say Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for this. The visuals are simple, but striking with the black background and technological read outs and displays. The music KICKS FUCKING ASS with the magnificent synth on a full chiptune setup. It honestly feels like the intro to a film (fitting for Kojima) setting up the Metal Gear D for the eventual threat against Snake.
PsychoMarket Recap - Thursday, November 11, 2021
The market finished mixed on Thursday, as market participants continue to grapple with the implication of the latest inflation report and third-quarter earnings, which are showing signs of slowing down as it winds down. The S&P 500 (SPY) and Nasdaq (QQQ) rose after two consecutive down days, as tech stocks made a comeback, closing 0.04% and 0.28% higher, led by a rebound in technology stocks, while the Dow Jones (DIA) closed 0.44% lower. The Russell 2000 (IWM), which tracks the performance of small-caps, rose 0.8% higher.
With a slow news days due to it being Veteranโs Day holiday in the US, market participants continue to digest the Consumer Price Index released tomorrow, which showed prices of consumer good surging 6.2%. in a year-on-year period, accelerating from Septemberโs 5.4% YoY rate, and higher than the 5.9% expected. This represents that fastest pace of inflationary expansion since 1990, though one has to take into account easy comparisons to last year.
The staying power and magnitude of inflationary pressures has, perhaps, become the central question for market participants, with companies across the board reporting rising input costs and price hikes passed on to the consumers to preserve margins. While Q3 earning results have robustly demonstrated that companies in the SPY were largely able to navigate these cost pressures, the possibility remains that if inflation runs hotter than expected for longer than expected, it could begin to hamper consumer demand.
Matthew Luzzetti, Chief US Economist at Deutsche Bank, said โThis [the CPI report] is certainly telling us, I think, that price pressures are more persistent. They are broader. They are not just narrowly focused on those categories, whether it's autos and the supply-constrained items. And it's going to last longer than expected. We do think that the Fed is going to have to raise rates next year. They've signaled that they're going to taper through the middle of the year, and that's our baseline at this point. But if you continue to see price pressures like this over the coming months and more persistent, it may cause them to have to act earlier than expected."
With roughly 89% of companies in the S&P 500 (SPY) having already reported earnings, 81% of those have so far posted better than expected earnings per share and 75% of those reported better than expected revenue. FactSet projects that the year-on-year earnings g

For some context, I currently work at a DG. This has to be the most aggressive anti-union company out there. I read somewhere that the company pays roughly $13k a day to third party union busting companies. If a store even begins the unionization process, it will send in it's anti-union cronies to "persuade" the employees from voting for the union. If that doesn't work, DG will fire the pro-union employees before a vote can happen. If the unionization does succeed, DG will just close the store for good. Which is easy for them to do since they build hundreds of thousands of new stores across the country. they are at 18,000 and not stopping anytime soon.
The "training" the company gives you is basically, "unions are bad". You have to figure out how to do everything on the fly, like running register and throwing freight. Even a mention of unionization towards upper management is grounds for a write-up and even termination! Like previously mentioned, DG is CONSTATLY expanding across the country. Us employees desperately want corporate to stop building new stores and focus on the ones they have. DG's goal is to have a store every 8 miles. Heck in my town alone and the neighboring towns, there are 9 stores alone. They wanted to build even more in my town, but the city council got smart and denied them.
since DG is so anti-union, they can treat us like absolute pieces of crap. For starters, The technology they give us is absolute garbage. our registers freeze up about every 15-20 transactions and we have to let them re-start. Allowing a huge line to form. DG has two different positions. Sales-associate and Lead sales-associate (aka keyholder). DG doesn't let Sales-associates do their own voids and returns. They have to call the keyholder up from their duties to do it for them. If you are a sales-associate, you are expected to run the whole front end of the store BY YOURSELF! you are a stocker and a cashier at the same time. You are lucky to put one thing away then have to rush back to the register to check customers out. If you are a keyholder, you will most likely get left alone for hours on end to run the whole store by yourself until a sales-associate shows up. Their is supposed to always be two people on a shift, but due to the "hours system" that is not always possible.
corporate gives us a set amount of "hours" for the week to schedule people with. We can't go over that amount. As a result, more often than not, keyholders get left alone for hours because

Like title says, my party managed to transform simulacrum Dzaan in a real person at the lost spire a few sessions ago (the party's wizard spent hours on the machine, comparing notes on the Netherese technology, so I made the roll work even though it was a 78%).
I roleplayed Dzaan as a jovial young mage in his thirties with a taste for theatrics but very kind and forthcoming towards the party (since he desperately needed their help to activate the machine, even more so now that the party told him true-Dzaan was dead.)
Half the party members weren't convinced, but his willingness to share information about the spire with the party and after being questioned through a zone of truth spell, they agreed to help him.
A few sessions later, party temporarily departed from Dzaan and his (grumpy) undead bodyguard to deal with Xardarock and the dragon. I didn't run the chapters 3-4 RAW, so party only met Vellynne Harpell after killing the dragon at Termalaine as the one designed by Duvessa Shane to dispose of the Chardalyn carcass safely. Long story short: the party didn't like Vellynne.
They managed to get back Dzaan's spellbook from her, though, in exchange for information on the now empty lost spire of Netheril. (In my game, Vellynne contributed greatly to Dzaan's capture in Easthaven and asked his spellbook as a reward).
Now the PCs are talking about bringing Dzaan and Krintaas to Grimskalle and Ythryn to help them solve Auril's everlasting rime (they offered, since it would be a free ticket to the lost Netherese city and Dzaan is well aware his rivals are still wandering the Dale: he realizes traveling with the party of adventurers gives him the best chance at succeeding his mission).
For those wondering: yes, my players knew since the pyre at Easthaven that Dzaan was a red wizard of Thay and affiliated with the Arcane Brotherhood. I had a PC with the Spy secret so he and the paladin of the party didn't trust Dzaan at first... The PC wizard and sorcerer had to work around that a little.
Moreover, the party's Wizard told me last session his PC has a crush on Dzaan. Can't wait to see how Grimskalle goes.
Tl:dr: Party managed to make Dzaan simulacrum real in the lost spire of Netheril and grew attached to him. They will bring him to Grimskalle and Ythryn as help to thwart Auril's plans.

I miss this game so much. I remember when I first played it back in 2017. I had been looking forward to doing so since its release two years prior. I was only 11 back then so I had to wait a couple of years before my folks would let me get it. May I say I loved the damn thing. Especially its main story. It had me hooked right from the get-go. To this day I think it's perhaps the best in the series. It combines the relatively simple and personal story that Fallout 3 told with the complex and morally nuanced one New Vegas had, making it the perfect Fallout experience.
I loved all the companions too. I don't want to say they were the best in the franchise as New Vegas had some pretty solid sidekicks as well such as Boone and Veronica. but damn this game had so many well-written characters that got to tag along with you. An undercover agent that constantly goes through face transplants and whose past is shrouded in mystery. A lonely journalist who's cast away from society due to her somewhat sensationalist reporting while trying to take care of her little sister. An Irish fighter and drug addict who has a tragic history with her family. I could mention more but I think ya get what I'm on about.
Then there are the factions. I know everyone seems to think this game is pretty black and white for some reason but honestly, I couldn't make up my mind on who was in the right in the end.
First There's the Institute. A shadowy organization that seeks to help the people of the commonwealth using their technology. Although they want to rule with an Iron fist. Replacing key political figures such as the mayor of Diamond City to spread their influence. Killing people who get in their way like in University Point. Or just kidnapping people in order to assist with their research like with the super mutants. Let's not forget the son you've been looking for most of the game is the head of it and destroying them would mean betraying your own blood.
Then we have the Brotherhood. A militarist organization that seeks to bring order and peace to the commonwealth. Sadly they seem to utilize draconian methods and even resemble raiders in some regards.
Next, we have the Railroad. A group of spies who manipulate an Institute Insider into destroying their home and killing all of his friends leads him to commit suicide. Are outright terrorists by destroying the Prydwen and Institute without sounding the evacuation alarm and even having synths wipe their minds in order to erase thei

Stocks finished the day mixed, with the S&P 500 (SPY) and Dow Jones (DIA) falling while the tech-heavy Nasdaq (QQQ) pushed higher, closing 0.31% higher. The Russell 2000 (IWM), which tracks the performance of small-caps, fell 0.46%. Market participants are digesting the release of the August Jobs Report, which showed a sharp deceleration in employment amid the latest surge by the coronavirus Delta variant.
The Labor Department released their monthly unemployment report, which showed hiring in August slow down dramatically as the US continues to battle massive spikes in coronavirus Delta cases in certain parts of the country, mainly the South/Southeast (according to the CDC, roughly โ of all COVID-related hospitalizations are in Texas and Florida as both states deal with record coronavirus cases and low hospital capacity). Due to this surge and the reimposition of pandemic-era restrictions in areas with high transmission rates, employment numbers came in shockingly low compared to estimates and the previous monthโs numbers. Here are the numbers.
President Biden said of the report, โWhile I know some wanted to see a larger number today and so did I, what weโve seen this year in continued growth, month after month, in job creation. This is the kind of growth that makes our economy stronger.โ
This is a little confusing but follow me here. In a weird quirk of the market, the low employment numbers actually benefit equities by staving off the need for tapering, which is why we saw tech stocks in particular popping today. Members of the Fed have consistently signaled they will be looking especially close at labor market data to determine when to start tapering the pandemic-era quantitative easing program. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said the August Jobs Report could be his signal to hit the โsubstantial further progress markโ the Fed stipulated in December and begin tapering. He said, โI think that one more good job report if itโs in the 850,000 to 1 million range will be sufficient to claim substantial further progress in employment for ta

Here is another Red Queen story. As previously mentioned, the Red Queen rose through the organization in record time due to a brilliant combination of treachery, backstabbing, guile, pettiness, vindictiveness and insecurity. She frequently attached herself to someone more powerful and rode that person's coattails to glory. This also afforded her the protection from any consequences for her behavior.
When King Dan the Dirty arrived at our office, the office was productive and efficient with people enjoying the work and the camaraderie. He immediately brought the Red Queen in to be his second. By the time the Red Queen departed with a promotion the office was a wrecked shell of its former self where no one trusted other workers. Nearly all productivity came to a halt and talent was fleeing in droves. The hypocrisy of the whole situation was that Dan the Dirty's claim to fame was in taking personal trips on the company dime, stalking and sexually harassing women and making sure that his second continued to allow him to do it while the Red Queen was hammering the peasants for imaginary ethical violations. To stop word of the discontent, the Red Queen implemented a "no personal conversations in the workplace" rule as well as creating a cadre of office spies to listen in on office chat and to read any email going out of the office that mentioned her or Dan the Dirty.
To be clear, we peasants tried every rational, reasonable and direct method of resolving these issues for a year before screaming into the heavens and saying, if you want to play this game, let's play this game. These were no run of the mill psycho managers, this was the big leagues of sociopathy. One favorite trait of the Red Queen was that she hated and persecuted mothers.
Here's the story: A very good friend of mine and I went out of town to work on a very difficult and demanding task for a week where we were averaging 16 hour days. It was out in a jungle in hot tropical conditions and we were exhausted to say the least. One night, we ran out of supplies to continue the task and so she and I went to the only store open at 2am in that small town. Dead on my feet, I put down the company credit card and they overcharged me by $0.47 in a purchase of around $100. Once complete we went back to work.
The task was very successful and we received kudos from the other organizations that participated. We thought that this was something that might be award worthy or even a thanks would hav

We shoot the Vex off his back and he is able to get us into the Vex network. We are making progress, but his House is getting hunted down by both the Vex and House Salvation, and Mithrax cannot stop to help us. Ikora then officially invites House Light to live in the Last City, in return for Mithraxโs help overriding the Vex simulation.
At the Eliksni quarters, Mithrax is greeted by Osiris, Ikora, and Lakshmi-2 of the Future War Cult. Lakshmi says House Light has been welcomed by the Vanguard and by the Consensus, the civilian government, but Osiris says later their arrival sits between โdemocracy and decree.โ Osiris asks House Light to keep to themselves, since many in the City do not want them there. A room in the Helm is turned over to Mithrax so he can begin slicing, and Zavala assigns Ikora, Osiris, Lakshmi, and Saint-14 to help him win both our peoples another sunrise.

She is a Scribe, responsible for recording her peopleโs history, and she leaves some audio recordings scattered around the camp.

So instead, let's go back through the DD's (the ones I haven't deleted because they were no longer effective, at any rate) and update them and where I am with them. Several weeks ago I did a stream going through the Loopring protocol and SDK (not enough).
At the time, they had all LRC conversation banned on the shitcoin subreddit. Imagine being all about blockchain and banning open, decentralized conversation ๐ I addressed this and realized that Loopring is a threat to the others in the space.
And now that LRC is moving to compete with the likes of Coinbase and Binance, they're shitting their pants because hundreds of coins are going to become useless and hopefully bring an end to these pump & dumps.
Fundamentally, Loopring is a threat because the technology is so much more superior than what's out there. PLUS they have the backing of millions of us and some unknown premium partner.

Because they charge a lot.
I'm replaying Fallout 4 and I recently did Blind Betrayal, and during that conversation between Maxon and Danse, I had an epiphany: Maxon, and by extension the entire BoS, do not care about whether a synth is sentient and free thinking or not. They only care about whether they can control it, and because the BoS cannot fully control a synth, they and the Institute must be destroyed.
The foundational ideas of the BoS are 1) The bombs fell because people abused their technological prowess, and 2) To avoid future destruction, the BoS should withhold technology from the common people and hold onto it as guardians of technology. These two ideas lead to quite startling conclusions which are vastly different from what they claim.
1: Technological Abuse
The BoS's claim of tech abuse falls flat upon any examination of pre-war society. Yes humanity overused resources, but destructive weapons such as nukes were not available to the average Joe, but instead the governments in charge. Their abuse of resources and manufacturing of tensions and eventually war, was what led humanity to the apocalypse, not the people's use. The BoS takes this misreading of the fact and concludes that technology must be withheld from people at all costs, leading to point two.
2: Technology Hoarding
The BoS's solution to avert a future second apocalypse is to hoard any and all powerful technology that could be weaponized, and place it in their hands. First, they were not elected, so why should they be in charge? But the implications of such thought and actions are what lead me to believe that the BoS is the worst faction in F4. Were a wasteland scientist or a team of scientists to develop something significantly powerful, the BoS would then seek them out and offer this deal: "Join us and we can help your research, or we confiscate it and any resistance will be met with force." After all commoners can't have technology, so the BoS will use force to take technology, albeit as a last resort. After this exchange happens a few times, people will take notice and learn that you either join the BoS, or any tech you develop is not to be shared and done in secret. Not sharing this tech, whether it be from wastelanders or the BoS, perpetuates and possibly worsens the technological stagnation we see in F4. This perpetuates and possibly worsens the technological stagnation seen in the wasteland. And the BoS understand that in a world mostly devoid of high tech, having as much tech as possible give

Donโt even get me started on technology and social media either. I thought 2012 tumblr was badโฆ the current trend itโs at now is going to very debilitating to children. I already see it now where kids are trying to grow up too fast and hate themselves for not living up to beauty standards at 10-13!!
And even just the risk of your child developing a mental disorder, developing trauma or experiencing something terrible, or even just stress and confusion with life itself why would I want to do that to someone? Let alone my own child?
I feel like some parents sugar coat life and make it out to be a beautiful and magical thing, when really itโs just a 50/50 game, to justify having children too.
just seems messed up to me.
PsychoMarket Recap - Wednesday, August 4, 2021
Today was another choppy day, with stocks ending the day mixed, with the Nasdaq (QQQ) climbing 0.14% while the S&P 500 (SPY) and Dow Jones (DIA) fell 0.48% and 0.89% respectively. The Russell 2000 (IWM), which tracks the performance of small-cap stocks, fell 1.25%. It seems market participants were disappointed by a report from ADP, a leading employment services company, which estimated that private employers added half the expected amount of jobs in July. This sets a negative backdrop for the official July Jobs Report, set to be released this Friday.
ADP, a leading payroll and human services software company, released its July 2021 Employment Report, which estimated that private employers added only 330,000 jobs in July, less than half the 690,000 gain expected by economists. While ADPโs report isnโt 100% accurate, itโs usually fairly close and sets a negative backdrop for the official July Job Report on Friday. ADPโs report shows that the labor market imbalances stemming from the coronavirus pandemic remain. Moreover, with concerns surrounding the Delta variant increasing, that could be a relatively new factor adding more pressure. Here is the entire report: https://adpemploymentreport.com/
Concerns surrounding the highly contagious coronavirus Delta variant continue to rise, with Florida emerging as the USโ new epicenter for the disease. Cases in Florida have jumped dramatically, going from 2432 on July 1 to 38,776 on July 30 and have so far had three consecutive days of record infections. Thankfully, however, despite the surge in cases, the death rate has so far remained stable and relatively low, a sign that the vaccines are very effective at preventing hospitalizations and serious death.
So far, 59% of the companies in the S&P 500 (SPY) have reported Q2 earnings, with 88% of these beating analyst expectations, according to FactSet. This quarter is shaping up to be another record-breaking one, with corporate earnings growth rate expected to accelerate 85%, which would be the biggest jump since the Q4 2009.
However, it is important to note that, despite beating earnings expectations, a number of these companies have pulled back, with tepid outlooks moving forward overshadowing strong results. Moving forward, given that most companies have so far exceeded pre-pandemic levels and the current quarter has an easy comparison to last year, expectations for

TL;DR :
1.FRT stay neutral between panfam and imperium.
2.Panfam back-stabbing us after WWB2 , doing blops on us, threatening to reset our standings, and claiming our territory in drone lands, so FRT will purpose a territory switch using systems in drones land to change for the system in tenal, branch and geminate.
FRT crushed AOM.
FRT will integrate inactive corps, get rid of the income rely on combat sites ratting, into multiboxing abyssal for example.
FRT will clean up all structures in pochven that can threatening the vale of the silent( meaning rote fortizars in nalvula.
On the west side, FRT make deal with Volta; imperium invading cloud ring but not worried.
Low-sec alliance has no big threat, for now.
Frt is surrounded by enemies.
9.FRT needs more spies, more new pilots, more way of isk income, more supers, and more good FCs.
Unitless Scoia'Tael was already strong and obnoxious to face, but it was bearable due to the reliance on Madoc and the limited damage output that capped the damage at 4 for each bomb (probably a bit more if you add any leader) and the fact that Madoc is (somewhat) balanced due to having to stay on the board for 1 turn, thus giving opponent plenty of opportunities to remove him.
With the addition of Milva this is no longer the case.
The damage output in a single swing, using the unique Scoia'Tael bomb, turns a single 4p x 4 damage bomb to a:
4 bomb 3 Madoc 2 Milva
And 2 damage may not seem as strong, and sure, it is not by itself but we are addressing the whole thing here.
Turning every single 4p card into a 9 of power is absurd, and that is without taking into consideration the leader that also allows for yet another 4 points of damage (or more) if used properly.
What makes this deck unbearable to play against is the absence of units for the opponent to Interact with. CDPR you added the "At least 13 units rule" because of decks like this that people always hated before, of which, Scoia'Tael was always the biggest offender.
Now Scoia'Tael has 5 "units" that the opponent cannot interact with as easily or it's almost impossible to interact unless you build a deck specifically to counter this strategy.
The units in question are: Saskia, Saesenthessis, Milva, Sabertooth and Madoc, of which only Madoc is available for all factions.
Combine that with the fact that Scoia'Tael is the faction that can spam the most spell cards of the entire game, having graveyard spell recovery, as well as units that allow you to create even more spells and you have a strategy that gives the opponent little to no chance at all to play.
Scoia'Tael is basically playing with 8 units and the rest are units that commit suicide such as those Dwarfs or fillers that deal any kind of damage. Scoia'Tael is breaking the "13 units rule" and for some reason they are allowed to.
Wether the opponent is playing a reactive strategy, such as Skellige damage, Nilfgaard Spies, Monsters Frost/Vampires, Syndicate Bounty or a proactive one such as NR Alumni, Monster Consume, SK Druids, SY Fireswarm, this Scoia'Tael has a perfect answers for both of those types of strategies.
Let me give you 2 examples:
> Opponent is playing control oriented deck such as lock Nilfgaard: "Oh, control and lock huh? It would be a shame if all my units were immune or leave the board the same turn, or were impos

This was almost entirely due to a documented, highly successful governmental effort to spread misinformation and keep public interest at bay. It's important to keep this in mind as you read on - we must set aside our biases before simply dismissing things we grow up learning to be 'real science,' no matter how absurd we might think it is. If we've learned anything at all from this soft disclosure so far, it's that anything has the potential to be substantially different to what we believe and/or what mainstream science tells us.
This is not an invitation to carelessly abandon the scientific method, but to actually look at evidence without dismissal. You're going to need an unbiased, open mind, because some of this information really does make you question everything you think you know about reality.
Anyway, to the rabbit hole:
Remote viewing.
The rabbit hole started for me when I watched the documentary Third Eye Spies. While obviously not evidence in itself, the claims of apparent evidence mentioned in this documentary got me curious enough to look into the history of remote viewing. I was surprised to find the evidence to be extremely compelling, despite all of the Wikipedia and mainstream misinformation. For example, the then president of the American statistical society Professor Jessica Utts was assigned to go over thousands of documents of experimental data and came to the conclusion that remote viewing has a statistically higher efficacy than aspirin. She even personally went to ensure the validity and scientific rigidity of the labs at SRI where the majority of experiments were taking place and said they were some of the cleanest and tightest experiments she'd seen. Here she is in a 30 minute interview, and here is her 1995 paper "An Assessment Of The Evidence For Psychic Functioning"
On top of this, thanks to recently(ish) declassified documents, we now know that every single branch of US military and intelligence has utilised remote viewing for decades with operational success.
I highly recommend the book 'Pyschic Literacy' written by Ingo Swann who created the Controlled Remote Viewing method in collaboration with the CIA. The book excellently describes the reasons remote viewing and other 'psychic' abilities are so casually

I havenโt anticipated a film this much since The Fellowship of the Ring. And I thought that, two decades on, it might be worth reflecting on anticipation, premieres, and what comes after.
Personally, I canโt help connecting The Lord of the Rings and Dune. Both are โunfilmableโ giants of their genres. Both were adapted prior to Jackson and Villeneuve, to mixed reaction. Both are in the hands of passionate fans.
Iโd been a Lord of the Rings fan most of my eleven years when New Line Cinema announced Jacksonโ adaptation in 1998. My parents had read the books to me when I was a toddler, and then Iโd read them myself when I was maybe 8 or 9. I fell madly in love with Middle-Earth, with the sense of a vast world hiding behind every name and hill. And thus I fell in love with reading, too.
I came to Dune around the time that Jacksonโs films were announced. Like Tolkien, Herbert made me feel like the world was bigger than the words on the page. But where Tolkien made me love reading, Herbert did something else. My parents had taught me to love the nonhuman world, and into that love Herbert injected the idea of ecology. Today, I teach environment and writing, and itโs probably due in part to Tolkien and Herbert.
As I fell in love with Dune, I was following the production of The Lord of the Rings. I stared for hours at the first luminous preproduction art (which to this day I wish I could find in a printable resolution). I read every spy report, followed the controversies with interest. โReal or fake? Forgery expert weighs in on authenticity of hobbit hole set pic," read one headline.
I endured excruciating loading times to view the first trailer. Thereโs a moment in that trailer when the 4:3 aspect ratio expands to full cinematic 2.39:1, revealing an army marching like ants across a volcanic desert. Today, CG armies are common. But this was the debut of that technology. My jaw literally dropped. Here was my imagination realized on screen. My anticipation grew.
In 2001, when New Line Cinema screened thirty minutes of the film at the Cannes Film Festival, I read every word of every review I could find, and then I read them again in case I'd missed a telling adjective. And with those words, I built the film in my head
