A list of puns related to "GEOS (8 bit operating system)"
I started writing a small OS for my CPU ( original post ). It is a very basic FAT style file system, it is missing some features but is in a working state ( text files are not supported yet )
Supported commands :
I installed the latest 64-bit Alpine Linux release on my Raspberry Pi 4, enabled the "edge" repository, installed the XFCE desktop, and updated everything to the latest version. However, the XFCE desktop has noticeable latency. Chromium reports that hardware acceleration is disabled.
Some of the changes I made are
gpu_mem
to 256 in /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d,cma-128
in /boot/usercfg.txt
(/boot/config.txt
has a line include usercfg.txt
in the [all]
section)Do I need to use the 32-bit version of Alpine/Raspberry Pi OS if I want hardware accelerated graphics in XFCE and Chromium? I know the 64-bit port is an ongoing process but I just wanted to confirm if hardware acceleration is something that's working on it right now.

Purchased a home with a geothermal system installed thinking there would be large cost savings in heating/cooling the home. The home is 2,200sqft and in New England. Is it typical for our electric bill to spike to over $550/mo during winter when a typical electrical bill in spring/fall with very limited HVAC usage is around $300. I had the system serviced and cleaned out with no change. Is this typical? Was I expecting too much savings? Looking at online calculators, a typical cost for oil heating would be about the same.
A little bit. ??
