Tried to build an old French navy ship. 100% made with bare hands, no world edit etc used. The hull was a bit of a pain in the ass to build but i think it turned out pretty good :)

TIL that the name of the Royal Navy ship HMS Petard means "HMS Fart". A petard is a small bomb that derives its name from middle French for βto break wind.β Pun-loving Shakespeare probably knew this when he wrote βhoist with his own petardβ - or to be blasted with his own fart

What was the role of the French Navy in the Battle of the Atlantic?
We always hear about the clash between the Royal Navy and the U Boats, but what about the French Navy? They had some of the most feared capital ships in the world, and the Germans built ships like the Bismarck specifically to counter French battleships such as the Richelieu.

Why did the revolutionary French Republic even consider, much less actually launch, the seaborne invasion of Egypt in 1798, given the Royal Navy's dominance of the seas around Europe at the time?
I'm listening to Andrew Roberts' excellent biography of Napoleon at the moment, and I'm up to his expedition to Egypt. He makes note of how his armada was fortunate to evade Horatio Nelson's fleet multiple times along the way, which was patrolling the Mediterranean looking for the French.
Given that Napoleon himself had previously spent time inspecting the French naval assets on the channel coast and concluded that France was nowhere close to being able to challenge the Royal Navy, the expedition to Egypt seems incredibly risky even with the warships the French brought along. I get the strategic reasoning for what they were hoping to do in Egypt, but it seems like having an entire armada sunk or captured by the British would have been a colossal blow to the republic and was a very real possibility.

I (SG, 26F) got to know a Mormon US Navy (US, 25M) since last year after matching online and visited me this November from Hawaii. He said he didnt love me enough to have an LDR after the visit but insisted to visit me this March and is open to the possibility of being together in the future.
He was just able to visit me for 2days. So there are some things I found so off about him, to mention as far as I can remember:
-
He lied to everyone about how we met. He told his colleagues that I was an exchange student back then and we met in his school while he told his family that we met in Thailand while I was on vacation during his deployment. It sounded so off for me. He also asked me what I said to my family. I think he's shy to tell everyone that he's posting his pics and profile online to find a date.
-
Not gentleman(eats before I have my food, doesnt see if I even have something to drink)
-
Super tightfisted to the point of making a girl pay first for not preparing enough money, then just reimbursing
-
Super religious but follows some things in his religion without knowing why he has to do it. Asked him why they are prohibited to drink tea and coffee and he doesnt even know. And a girl have to convert for him to marry her. I'm open to knowing his religion, but I'm someone who is open-minded and wants to understand about everything how peculiar and weird things are, so it's a big turnoff for me for him to be super religious without fully understanding why he has to do all those stuff.
-
Well I am not so into the physical aspect, but the first time I saw him in the airport, I was kinda scared/shocked really. He's 6'2 and super thin (I thought he was more toned from his photos) and he has a very bad posture. I just joked with him when I say "Quasi(modo)" it means straighten up his back, well it's also for him...but at one point he said he can do nothing about it cos he's used to it. I felt like he's kinda stubborn.
-
One time we had a drink and he told me to get another straw to not spread bacteria. Then after we kissed he said we can share the same glass already. lol he's like a kid. He told me he had 2 relationships back then. The longest one lasted 2 or 3 months only. Lol I think he never really had any.
The problem is even though I knew all of those, I got so attached and I expected that we were really heading into something serious that time so it was heartbreaking for me when he told me he cant be in a long distance relationship (mainly because of his primary love languages: physical touch and quality time and after march he will be permanently stationed in one area in US for 1 year so he couldnt visit me already).
He's now stationed in San Diego. We still messaged after the visit. He opened up to dating other people (but I think h

[EVENT] French navy celebrates the commissioning of its new Nuclear Attack Submarine - the Suffren
Ministere des armee
Hotel de Brienne, Paris, France, July 14th 2020
Sightly behind schedule, the French Nuclear Attack Submarine is finally starting its service.
Following a year of sea trials and certification exercises, the Suffren - head of its class - is finally put into commission. The Suffren class will be the first of 6 submarines aiming at replacing the Rubis-class attack submarines already in service.
The ship shares some of its design with the Barracuda class already exported with a significant differences: its Nuclear reactor.
The next Submarine of this class, the Duguay-Trouin, will be commissioned next year

Horus in his madness and a stroke of clairvoyant ingeniousness predicts and lays out the future and role of Chaos Astartes/Sons of Horus/Black Legion for the next 10.000 years, the black crusades and the role of Abaddon as the future Warmaster of Chaos in John French's audiodrama 'Warmaster'

You should but the whole thing. It's very short and excellent.
I love this audiodrama so much. It's such a great window into Horus's mind and probably my favorite 40k acting performance.
While he's most likely talking about just the Heresy itself leading up to the Siege of Terra but it also has a double meaning where it feels like he's seen a glimpse of the future and somehow knows about the black crusades and the future of the whole faction and the fate of the galaxy.
