This article published in 2007 starts with a quote from Benjamin Franklin that absolutely gutted me:

Perhaps this isn't the place for this post (not COVID, name not redacted, involves children) but I was struck by the similarity of Ben Franklin's misplaced concerns and his untimely regret. The article's risk breakdown tree is also very good reading. Perhaps we could make a similar chart for today's vaccines.
