A list of puns related to "For profit education"
The crackpot rant (Don't take this seriously, I'm just giddy):
Years ago, I went to school in China, where I wasnβt very happy about my educational experience (I donβt think many of my classmates were TBH). But the whole thing I hated the most was that smug ass bastard, the minister of education Zhou Ji (maybe my childhood memories are fuzzy, but I think it is him). Because when the minister of education tells you to jump, you and your classmates have to ask βhow highβ, and I mean this literally because he introduced high jump into the curriculum.
So I used to sit there and complain about the minister who comes on TV all the time to torment us with his bad policies. As a kid, I didnβt get how bad some of his policies were, I just wasnβt happy and hated everything he talked about on TV. Well, he supported this terrible educational policy, that is currently collapsing, and dragging down the Chinese economy with it!
I hated going to school. I was never a good student, and I well, hated the studious, test taking mentality organized education forced on me for nearly 20 years. Growing up, my career as a student was always a bad Bart Simpson impression, except my pranks werenβt funny and were mostly figments of my imagination anyways.
You see, when you were a kid, and you hated school, you egg the teachers parking lot or TP the building. You sat there and you hummed βweβre not gonna take itβ, while you get dragged into the principalβs office, and your parents were summoned and you end up grounded for a long, long time.
However, if I do remember anything from my near two decades in school, was that in sociology class they taught me the greatest form of oppression is systemic oppression. Therefore, I realized very early on that individual pranks against the teachers I disliked was going to do nothing about the education-industrial complex that tormented me for years. To use a very crude analogy, imagine if you were a racist who hated a specific race (unfortunately, some people donβt have to imagine), throwing a racial slur against an individual on the street torments the individual you insulted. But if you want to stunt the prospects of the whole race, you need to support systematically oppressive policies like Apartheid to create a truly oppressive environment. So if you chanted βschools out for ever!β every summer, TPing your school is pointless, you have to support politicians who will enact policies that dismantle the education system.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Their immediate need is to track attendance for all their courses into some kind of database that they could then pull stats from. Can anyone recommend a package that will do this kind of thing. Cost is a factor as they are not for profit, so inexpensive (relatively speaking) would be an additional benefit.

Hello.
So I have been thinking that in some places like the US and other regions in the world students face huge economic burdens to achieving an education. But what is really required here? Some people have to move away from home, find housing, pay for their own meals, textbooks, school course materials, computer programs, transportation, school facility fees etc. Schools that are also for profit can charge students upwards of 50k for an undergraduate degree, which is straight up ridiculous. Not to mention how hard it is to find a job to even begin paying back these loans with certain degrees.
So what I am saying this: With the advent of VR and AR technology and 5G networks there really wont be any need to leave your house to get a first class education. The first group to seriously put together an actual Virtual school with begin to turn the tables.
Learning about Mars for Astronomy class? Why not go there with the students and the teacher and walk around while discussing the planet.
Learning about Ancient Rome? Walk the streets of streets of the city and visit historical places and figures who reenact the historical scenario.
Working on a group project for a Psychology class? Meet in a virtual cafe to talk and present ideas in a shared group space where you can create word documents, PowerPoint presentations and video clips.
So in the near future why will we need to actually go to a university with all the costs associated with it? Why wouldn't you buy a VR headset for under $1000 and a decent internet connection?
How could brick and mortar school compete with this business model? Sure some educations like medicine will still need in class work for obvious reasons but a good portion of most academic fields could and should be fully digitized.
Thanks for hearing me out.

People helped me out here today - so I need to return the favor.
If you work for a USA non-profit - state, federal, public education institution at any level, or social services capacity - you can get your loans forgiven after ten years of consecutive payments (and on an income dependent payment.)
I am five years in right now and in five more 100k debt will be paid off by a 34k paid over the last ten years.
HOWEVER - this new temporary program is going to add on those years you paid before you enrolled in the program so you can retroactively (for all the years you worked in public service and paid your loans) add that time on there!
I just sent in my email to apply and I think I can shave some months off my waiting!
Hope this helps.
Hi redditors.
I am interested in doing some volunteer work in the financial literacy / education / awareness space.. I'm located in west Toronto but am open to other areas sa well.
Rather than re-invent the wheel, can anyone refer any existing not-for-profit / volunteer organizations that address these subjects?
Thanks!
