A list of puns related to "Flat adverb"
It is safe to say that all of us learned about adverbs along with other parts of speech in Elementary School. Because of this, we are familiar with adverbs-which tells us the manner in which something is done, and adjectives which describe a noun. Knowing this , how many can say they learned of Flat Adverbs? Some, but not very many I'm sure. I'm in the not many category.
Along with Social Studies, History , and Geography; English Languange Arts was a subject that iI excelled in immensely. Because of this I can say that Flat Adverbs, were never discussed in any ELA claa that had from K-College. As a mother with 3 children in (virtual) school, I can say that none of their teachers have ever mentioned Flat Adverbs while discussing parts of speech in their ELA classes. Now, this could possibly be because teaching is drastically different( and not in a good way) from what it was during the 90's- very early 2000's when I attended school. However, once again, they were never discussed when I attened ELA class,
Flat Adverbs are adjectives that basically double as adverbs without the -ly. For example, adjectives such as fast, quick, quiet, slow, calm, kind, etc. are now considered as Flat Adverbs. They are interchangable with their actual adverb counterparts and will still sound correct in a sentence i.e "She moved slow*"* as oppossed to "She moved slowly*."*
Very Odd (ly) , Flat Adverbs have sketchy history. Apparently English grammarians in the 18th Century thought they were adjectievs used incorrectly and prior to that period they are said to have been used more commonly. Imho, the way in whch many Flat Adverbs are used are contradictory to what I was taught in school about proper grammar usage. It is no wonder that grammarians in the past believed they were misused. They also follow the pattern of the backwardness and upsode down aspect of this reality we are in, that many talk about.
Question is, is this a quantum occurrence surrounding grammar and/or spelling akin to dilemma/dilemna ? Considering tere was so much confusion surrounding these parts of speech, centuries ago, and the fact that i or my children have never heard of them in school, I would say this is very likely.
What do you remember? Have Flat Adverbs always been a thing, or are they brand new to you as well?

... keep reading on reddit β‘Is there anything written on the relation between flat adverbs and middle constructions in English? For example, do you guys agree with the judgments in (1) and (2)? I'd like to know what explains the asymmetry.
(1) Bread cuts {easily | *easy}
(2) Cotton washes {easily | easy}
You can put a regular adverb almost anywhere in a sentence:
>Quickly he did his homework.
He quickly did his homework.
He did quickly his homework.*
He did his homework quickly.
Now when you take the -ly off, it's still an adverb, but where you can place it is severely reduced:
>He did his homework quick.
While you could do something like
>He quick did his homework.
It comes across as a bit unnatural or poetic, not how actual humans talk.
Does this hold for all flat adverbs, and if not, then why?
I'm using the definition of flat adverbs which is that it's an adverb with its -ly taken off, so "soon" wouldn't count as an example.
*Granted, this is a little awkward sounding too.
I'm editing an article, and I like the author's original text, "I'm taking it slow, and I expect to have many more years of cycling ahead of me." My copyeditor prefers "slowly," saying that Fowler's "frowns upon" using "slow" as a flat adverb. Grammar Girl and Merriam Webster Online back me up, but I need an old-school reference to support my view. Anybody know of a respected style guide (book) that supports flat adverbs?
EDIT: OK, I found a mention of flat adverbs in Chicago (5.157) that seems to acknowledge this usage. I'm going with "slow."
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Title's weird, but I'm looking for alternate adverbs for the kind of flat, offhanded and disinterested response you'd make to a kid when they're basically talking about nothing. (For example: "Is that so?" "Oh, interesting.")

Row 1
Tehanu, unlike some of the other feminist novels Iβve read this year, was a book that held profound weight. I think this comes down to Le Guinβs narrative and poetic style as an author. Her writing is just so much more compelling than many of the new authors Iβve read. Tehanu, of course, is part of the Earthsea series. It depicts Tenar, after her escape from Atuan, as a middle-aged woman and her interactions with Ged. At the beginning of the novel she finds a girl, Therru, who has been raped and burned in a fire. Tenar raises the girl as her own child. Like several of the books Iβve read this year, the plot centers on activities within the home. It is introspective on purpose. This introspection relates to Le Guinβs exploration of the nature of womenβs power. Tenar has several extended conversations with Ged and an old woman named Moss about what it means to βdoβ magic as woman. In addition, numerous atrocities are committed upon Tenar and Therru, Tenar is quite literally striped of her ability to speak, move, and remember by a hateful male wizard. Like all Le Guin sto

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

My thoughts rewatching the cycles in order as I work on some crocheting projects this winter
Cycle 1-2
-I never really cared for too much and definitely find the production value lower than the others. So far Iβve skipped them in my rewatch but Iβll probably go back at the end
Cycle 3
- Watching as a middle schooler I was in awe of Yaya. As an adult I was even more in awe. Out of all the contestants ever on the show Yaya knew herself the best. Also, she probably had one of the best senses of personal style. The show was filmed in 2004 and a lot of her outfits looked βfreshβ for 2021. Might make another post with screenshots of my favorite looks of hers.
-Yaya was one of the most unfairly treated. Itβs hard to watch. The judges truly have a dislike for women (specifically Black women and anyone with ties to their βafricanessβ) who knew who they were and were not apologize to for insecure - they loved to tell them they needed to be more humble. The Kente cloth hat moment was easily one of the most unwatchable moments of the entire show. Itβs incredible Yaya kept her tears back and delivered her speech after the guest judges out of pocket comments. Love her to this day and Iβm not surprised at her success post show.
-Eva was hilarious but definitely immature. She was never my favorite during my first watch but I appreciated her more during the rewatch. She was cute, but had a lot of growth to do in her life.
-Anne was there for what? Her height? They hated almost every photo of her and she was too competitive to the point where it made her lash out at Eva. Her last judging is cringey, she knows sheβs going home so she goes after Eva and Yaya and Amanda inexplicably decide to side with Anne.
-What was the point of a short season when the top 3 were all 5β8~5β7?
-I never really understood the appeal of Amanda. She very eh to me during the rewatch and her personality was also questionable (the crystals moment??) I didnβt find her look all that amazing but her makeover is one of the best the shows ever had. I understand this unpopular, my gf whose biggest gripe with antm is the praising of mediocre white models thinks Amanda was one of, if not the most striking white woman on the show, so personal taste for sure.
-Toccora not even being that large by 2021 standards was shocking to me. Her look would be in right now, she almost reminds me of the incredible Paloma Elsesser. Her elimination was unfair (she deserved to
