A list of puns related to "Fiddler on the Roof"
Pre show drink? I'm going to aim to be at: The Sherlock Holmes on Northumberland street from 6pm.
What: Fiddler on the Roof
Where: The Playhouse Theatre
When: 24th October at 7.30pm
Our freshman year of high school, our school theatre did Fiddler on the Roof; my crush (now boyfriend) was in the ensemble and I built the set/ led run crew. We're juniors now, and are going to Boston together with our choir about a month before Prom. Since so many of those in the choir were also in Fiddler, we are going to see a performance of Fiddler while in Boston. Here's my plan:
We are walking back to the hotel after the show, so I go ahead of the group while my friends make sure my bf is one of the last to get back. I have asked reception to hold the poster for me at the desk, so i get it from them and wait in the middle of the lobby, facing the door, with a poster that says "(his name), Be my PERFECT MATCH at Prom?"
,,still working on the details/ what the poster will say, advice appreciated :,))
Weโve both decided weโll never be able to watch or hear โDo You Love Me?โ without thinking of Kirk.
I'm not saying Disney should do it (in fact I'd prefer it if another studio did so Disney wouldn't market the crap out of it) but it does kind of have the feel of a "dark Disney" sort of story a la The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Also, it'd be rather timely for a remake and animation would help the studio not need to cast actors with certain "looks" (or feel like they have to e.g. cast a Tevye who could live up to the rest) and not have to use CGI for things like the dream scene (as I hate when live-action movies use too much CGI)
Does anyone have the music for either the Fiddler On The Roof Variations played By Yitzhak Perlman in the New Broadway Cast recording or the Isaac Stern's Cadenza from the movie? I can't find it anywhere and my Saba has asked me to learn it.
My wife and I have two extra tickets to Fiddler on the Roof for tonight, Tuesday. They are free to any student that wants to meet me there.
R1: They try to convert each other.
R2: They try to kill each other.
I think I may have seen this many years ago as a child but, it was on a smallish black and white TV in either a cropped or pan and scan version which really does not do the movie justice. I was also probably too young to appreciate many of the films themes.
The film is based upon the Broadway musical which itself was based upon plays and writings from the Yiddish Theater about Tevya the milkman and his five daughters and his trials and tribulations in marrying them off as well as dealing with the oppressive Tsarist Russian authorities.
Topol is great as Tevya striking just the right balance of comedy and drama. The other role most people would recognize Topol from is Dr. Zarkov in Flash Gordon.
The songs are mostly catchy and the film is beautifully shot. Fun fact I learned from the TCM broadcast is that John Williams won his first Oscar for conducting the music and adapting the score from the Broadway musical.
If you like musicals I would highly recommend Fiddler on the Roof.
