Young adult novel about a boy who wakes up escapes a hospital after waking up in the middle of a surgery.

Written and published in the mid 2000’s. I want to say it’s somehow alien related? It’s definitely set in the U.K. The boy is in his teens, wakes up during a procedure in a hospital and overhears the doctors. He notices he has a crazy wound and that it’s not normal. He escapes with the help of an anesthesiologist and then eventually meets a girl who helps him fake his identity. The book ends with them starting a new life somewhere warm together. Crazy book to read as a kid, would love to re read it as an adult.

[TOMT] A YA novel (I think it’s a sci-fi) about a dystopia where girls go off to boarding school to escape war

There’s a girl with her family, and they pretend that the girls friend is their other daughter because she is an orphan. The family sends them off to an all girls boarding school far away to escape a war that’s going on. Everyone has a bracelet around their wrist, inside the skin, that the government makes larger at certain birthdays.

YA Fantasy novel - people with powers living in hidden compound. Girl escapes and finds others like her in the outside world.

So hopefully I'm not mixing up books. I'm a librarian and have read hundreds. I remember reading a book/series maybe 8 years ago. A group of people live in a compound without technology and they possibly have powers. I don't think the kids know who their biological parents are within the compound but try to guess based on the powers they have. A girl leaves (escapes?) And finds a family of people like her outside the compound. They go back with her to help save the other teens or break down the society some how. It's all a bit vague so sorry. I can only remember some plot points. There is teen angst and some romance involved. Maybe brothers who both want the girl? It wasn't a particularly great book but not remembering the title is driving me crazy.

Fantasy novel where the main character goes to a magic school and sucks at it. He discovers the magic he was being taught was artificial, and escapes to learn real magic.

It's a children's or teens' novel from at least 5 years ago, probably part of a series. I might be mixing up multiple books.

The main character goes to a magic school that's underground, or somehow hidden away. He's pretty bad at magic, and I think he spends a lot of time in the library. It turns out that the magic everyone's learning in the school is somehow artificial or restricted. The main character either escapes or gets kicked out, and goes to learn real magic with some old mentor.

I think there was also a girl whose name was like Tara, or Tamryn, or something, who's good at magic and is outside the school trying to break in.

My memory is really hazy on this one, so please answer even if only half of the description matches. It could still be it.

A dystopian/fantasy novel where a boy wakes up in a jail cell underground and finds out he’s in a maze. Through the span of the book he tries to figure out where he is and how to escape... (More detail in post)

In the writing, the boy goes through some tasks and figures out his beginnings. The maze ends up being inside of a girls necklace. They boy and the girl find out they can speak to each other when he is in certain areas of the maze.

-The boy started out as a thief (or got robbed by thief’s)

-The maze is huge like a full world and has different β€œfactions” and climates

-The girl figures out how to get him out but I don’t remember if he does

-I was in sixth or seventh grade 2011/2012

  • Longer book. The genre being dystopian/fantasy. ( more suitable for teenagers I’m pretty sure)

-was a paperback book with a dark black/blue cover

-Part of a series

BOOK:ASTEROIDS Escape from the Arcadians - How I created the Harpoon device in the novel.

NASA is planning an Asteroid Defense project called DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) - this is the closet device NASA has that is like the HARPOON device depicted in ASTEROIDS.

https://preview.redd.it/8as2yabln2s21.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4017441c055145b8d0722ab7edfe31e09134ef49

When I needed a device to destroy an asteroid in the story, I searched the web and found a 160-page NASA research paper written by Dr. Bong Wie of the Asteroid Deflection Research Center at Iowa State, University. I read the entire paper and used what I learned to create the HARPOON. When I contacted Dr. Wie and asked him to review what I had written he was very helpful.

Here is a link to the research paper: https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/files/Bong_Wi_Final_Report.pdf

Here is a link to a news story about DART:

I just beat the series and I loved it. It made me think pretty damn hard during the puzzle segments and I genuinely felt accomplished when I finished one. How good are Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa & Zero Escape mystery visual novel trilogies (even for those who aren't VN fans)?

I remember exploring a bit into Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors as well as the first Danganronpa back on the Vita and got into them a bit. Can't remember why I had to stop, but I never played them all the way through.

I'm thinking of getting into them again, but every time I come across the label Visual Novel there's always this stigma of "This is NOT a video game..." that gives me pause even though I've had generally positive (although limited) exposure to the genre.

Anyway, what is this sub's experience with the Danganronpa & Zero Escape series of games, as I'm thinking of restarting them and will try to get through all the games this time?

My character has started writing a novel in order to escape his boring life. Unfortunately, I am writing an autobiography. What do I do?

I think I'm stuck in a neverending loop. I got to the point in my autobiography where I started writing my autobiography, so I've started detailing the contents of the start of the autobiography in my autobiography. I've considered ending the biography there, with some kinda clever bookend that references the beginning, but then I wouldn't be true to myself; 'write what you know', but I know I started writing an autobiography, so I'd be violating this code by stopping. As such, I believe I am caught in an endless loop. Please help me.
