Groundhog Day

Not completely sure this is a dadjoke but it sure got the same reaction. This happened about two years ago.

My wife used to work nights and on Friday and Saturday after she went to work, my then-12yo son and I would often watch a movie together. Sometimes he picked, usually it was a movie from The List, movies I liked when I was his age, things that shaped my sense of humor. I want him to be able to recognize the stupid quotes and references I throw at him. It’s his cultural education.

So we settled in for Groundhog Day. I’m a sucker for time travel shenanigans. Finished it up, he enjoyed it, and the next morning he was off to Boy Scout camp for a week.

He came back, we’re all excited to see him, and I tell him I got Groundhog Day 2 from Netflix. Threw it in the DVD player and we got about 20 minutes into before he looked at me and said β€œthis is just Groundhog Day all over again, isn’t it? There is no Groundhog Day 2.”

So worth an extra week hanging onto the disc.

At the Theatre

Ordering snacks to eat during a movie. My dad orders a large popcorn, 2 drinks, and some candy. The employee gets everything, we pay and as we are walking away:

Employee: "Enjoy the movie"

Dad: "What movie?"

He walks off towards the door...

I think I'm finally ready to become a dad.

So I'm currently watching all 6 star wars movies to prep myself for the new one coming out.

I just now finished watching Attack of the Clones. At the part where C3PO has his head attached to the battle droid, abs R2D2 removes it and starts dragging his head on the ground, 3PO says "this is such a drag"

Now as long as I can remember I've always HATED that line. I saw the movie for the first time in theaters when I was 16 years old and thought that little joke was the absolute dumbest and pointless part of the entire movie.

Now 13 years later I watched it again and when he said that line I just found myself laughing at it like it was actually really funny. I recognized that cringe in it but all kept laughing for like two minutes at it.

Does this mean I need to find someone to impregnate immediately?

Same thing goes with most dad jokes. Especially puns. Always hated them but have really been enjoying the posts on this sub lately.

Watching the Little Mermaid

My gf and I occasionally enjoy a cheeky Disney movie.

Tonight I asked 'which Disney Princess do you think gets the best reception? '

Scowl

Me 'Arial'

Nothing but rolled eyes and breathing through the nose chuckles

I'm pretty proud of this dad joke I told my girlfriend.

I was at her house, and we were cuddling on the bed watching a movie. One of her cats jumps up to the window sill behind us and just lays there watching the rain. After a couple minutes, I ask "Does he always do that?" "Yeah, he enjoys watching the rain" "Aww, look at him there, just soaking it all in..."
