A list of puns related to "English Grammar in Use"
It's the mother, the brother and the sister. They are all over the age of 40 - Australians descended from Irish convicts. For example, "I runs to the shop" from the brother, "Him goes shopping" from the sister. They will speak more correctly in formal situations. I have relatives who have passive knowledge of aboriginal languages (namely Ngaliwurru) and they said it's a common way of phrasing in informal situations.
I'm wondering if this is an isolated incident or part of a more broad pattern.
Oh, how it bugs me when people do the following: ahem Entitled Kids = EKβs
Catch that? WHY is AN apostrophe ADDED to THE end OF the ABBREVIATED word TO signify A plural WHEN it ISNβT for THE original TERM.
The Washington State University mentions source that it is technically grammatically incorrect. It should be βCDsβ or βEKs.β βHow old is he? Oh, heβs in his 50s.β What do you even mean by βheβs in his 50βs?β Huh? What belongs to 50? Heβs in 50βs sandcastle? Heβs in 50βs brand-new hotel? Nope (unless youβre insane).
Itβs mentioned that the informality of saying βEPβsβ has become so common that itβs acceptable but I believe we need to enforce the rules of American/English and stop this virus from spreading. It pisses me off so much each time I see it and each one of you should do the absolute most to honor the fact youβre literate by using proper english. I know itβs habitual at this point and most wont change but please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, write properly.
Ok so that was my first ever lengthy reddit post and itβs pretty exhausting so Iβm just going to leave it at that. I apologize for any redundancies and for the use of ββ when I should have use ββ to avoid vague double quotes of the same symbol. I already know someone reading the post is going to be so frustrated by my Grammar Nazi-ism (believe me I normally donβt care about proper grammar but this is more than a typo/mistake/laziness; this is intentional) and will try to give me a taste of my own medicine.
Oh hereβs a quick bonus: Itβs not classβs Itβs classβ
Yikes. Iβm gonna be unpopular in this subreddit.
It immediately lets me know who doesnβt do their own thinking and simply regurgitates what they hear. I make sure to drop lots of little clues around them to (hopefully) cause a mental breakdown when the cognitive dissonance catches up. At the very least, for some reason they feel βthe spiritβ go away for a while and donβt know what theyβre doing wrong.

Didn't know how to phrase this in google.
Recently, I've been enjoying reading articles written in Chinese about English grammar, like this one - it's useful to find ways to say things in Chinese. Does anyone else do this, and do you have any recommendations for websites with a good backlog of them to go through?
θ¬θ¬εοΌ
They say learning is making mistakes so let's hear yours. Or just share some things to be cautious of that you see other learners getting tripped up on.
Another example is there was about a week where I used γ©γγ§γγγ because I thought it was the same as δ½γ§γγγ (the first has kind of a fed up nuance), and there was also a day or two when I thought γ¨γ«γγ could be used like the English "anyway" to just change topics willy-nilly (γγγγγ° and γ¦γ are a bit closer to that).
And for those wondering, θ¦ζοΌγ«γγ¦οΌshows you are not only bad at something but you also don't like it. γδΈθΎοΌγγγοΌ cannot be used in a "thanks for the compliment" or "that dress is flattering" or "she was flattered by all the attention she received" way. It has the nuance of being a lie or "mere flattery".
Only one english teacher can exist at a time. Punishments usually consist of anything that would be used in the school the victim went to as a child. Whenever they have finished scolding, the English teacher turns into bees and dissipates. The bees are also invincible, and can spell things with perfect accuracy.
The βGrammar in Useβ series doesn't have an advanced level for American English but British English. Is it okay for me to study with βAdvanced Grammar in Useβ? If so, for the basic and intermediate levels, should I read American ones, or stick to British English ones?
Close enough amirite?
This also works with "you are".
Like is that a run on sentence? Should there be a comma somewhere? Is that the correct use of "where"? Class just started up again and I have a bitch of a time with grammar. Maybe we could call it /r/eddit?
Edit: Can we put the grammar Nazis to use and have a Subreddit where I can submit my English papers to be proofread?
