A list of puns related to "Ellen Cleghorne"
I was doing a little research in my boredom, specifically about Ellen Cleghorn, and I realized a few things.
In four seasons on the show, she carved out 3 characters and 21 impressions. For comparison, Beck Bennett has 3 characters after 3 years, and Vanessa Bayer has 21 impressions after six years.
Not only is her work funny on the old episodes, but her hiring came at a point before people were really pushing SNL to be diverse. She came, did her time, and left quietly. She attempted to start her own show ("Cleghorne!"), which flopped. She retired (basically) from acting and got a real job. She popped into Grown Ups 2, but other than that, she's off the acting planet.
I just thought it was interesting that such a utility player is rarely mentioned in SNL discussion, and even more interesting that she never moved on to bigger things.
Also worth discussing: is Sasheer Zamata a good fit for SNL? After learning a bit more about Cleghorne, I'd say no. I've seen Zamata in stuff outside of SNL and thought it was amazing, but nothing of hers on SNL really gets me excited. Perhaps the writers are reluctant, but with two female African-American writers on the staff one would argue that racism is not limiting her opportunity. Maybe Sasheer will go on to star in a great sitcom, and SNL will pick up and different utility player. One could say the same about Leslie Jones, though she is more of an "Update as herself, impression when needed" player, a la Silverman. I don't think SNL brought her on to do characters and impressions, where as that would seem to be important for Zamata.
What do you think on the whole thing? Is Cleghorne denied credit that she deserves? Does Sasheer have what it takes to be the everyman that SNL needs out of one of five people of color on the show?
Hi, does anyone have the links to:
That Ellen Cleghorne bit, which I think oddly enough aired during Weekend Update, where she was one of OJ Simpsons exes singing You have to hide in the Refrigerator, but it was a spoof of D'esree's You've Gotta Be?
Does anyone have that sketch where Rob Schneider is a new employee at a company, but he doesn't speak English very well and his co-workers start giving him bad translations, and he winds up saying, I am very sad because my wife lost her volleyball (baby) this weekend?

As mentioned, a slowed pace of life incited by the pandemic allowed me the opportunity to casually whiz through a hundred or so vintage episodes in early 2021, and goodness gracious, what a journey.
I'd always wanted to go back through these seasons - I was a young kid during the '90s and this is without doubt the era of the show I've romanticized the most. It was the first truly gigantic cast, and in hindsight, having such a large ensemble was utterly justified considering how stacked with talent it was.
To be clear from the outset, watching these seasons was a total blast, but I did have some thoughts, many of which are critical, and some of which involve misconceptions I think a lot of people have about the era, mainly due to nostalgia or just false memory.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
Iβve been watching The Real World homecoming centering around the original New York cast. It made me think of the SNL skit from that time and I canβt find it anywhere. For anyone who watched the old Real Worlds the only thing I remember was Ellen Cleghorne played a Tami Roman type character and Mike Myers played someone like Dominic and all he said was, βIβm from Dublinβ.
Anybody know where I can find this skit. All Iβve found regarding Real World is one from 1996 and thatβs not it.
When I got home, they were still there.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
" Hey, you two stop making out "
I won't be doing that today!

This morning, my 4 year old daughter.
Daughter: I'm hungry
Me: nerves building, smile widening
Me: Hi hungry, I'm dad.
She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.
Thank you all for listening.
There hasn't been a post all year!
Several years ago I decided to just randomly keep track of the episode count of each cast member. This is only a count of the number of eps where they are credited as a part of the cast. It does not take into account if they appeared in no sketches, if they were filming a movie, or on maternity leave, or whatever, nor does it count hosting/cameos. Just if their name appears in the credits.
Here's where we stand with the 2020-2021 crew.
Kenan had surpassed Darrell Hammond as the longest-tenured some time ago, and he extends his streak to 364 episodes (Hammond has 272).
At 190, Kate is now #7 of all time - although I count Al Franken at 206, but he was only a featured player and I have no idea if he was credited in every episode or only the ones in which he appeared (for purposes of this count, I just tallied them up for every episode in the season). That might drop his number a bit. I believe in the 70s at least, he and Tom Davis were only occasionally credited. Anyways, Kate is just 3 eps behind Bobby Moynihan.
Cecily and Aidy are at 185, just a few behind Tim Meadows.
Beck and Kyle are at 164, just one ahead of Sudeikis. Colin is at 151, between Hartman and Bayer, while Che and Pete at 143 are between Kattan and Poehler.
Mikey, Alex, and Melissa hit triple digits at 101, one place above Farley, and seemingly tied with A. Whitney Brown, but again he was just featured and may have only made occasional appearances.
Heidi and Chris hit 80, tied with Ellen Cleghorne. Ego is at 59, tied with Finesse Mitchell.
Bowen and Chloe are at 38, tied with Jay Mohr and Don Novello, who, yet again, may have only been credited in a fraction of those.
Finally, Andrew, Lauren, and Punkie have notched 20 episodes, with a slew of other "wait, they were on this show?" types, the most recent of which is Rob Riggle.
Anybody else watching Cheβs new show? I thought the first episode was very clever. Loved seeing Cecily Strong and Ellen Cleghorne in it as well.
