Car Insurance - Economical

Has anyone else's car insurance gone WAY up? Mine went up close to $1000 since the last renewal, it's ridiculous. No accidents or tickets.

I have got several quotes from companies for car insurance and ended up shortlisting belairdirect and economical in terms of costing. Have heard a lot of bad reviews of Economical. Any suggestions or other options I should be looking at? I have quotes from Intact, Personal, Aviva, Desjardins.

Forgoing Health Insurance because its more economical: am I correct?

Hi, I just moved back to Australia. Before I left I used to pay $400/year to Bupa for Hospital Health Insurance (HI) without extras. If I were to get hospital cover only HI it would cost around $900 a year. If I were to get hospital and extra's it would be $1600 or more per year.

So I am thinking that its more economical for me to have no HI at all. I visit the dentist 2 times a year and the GP for general stuff every so often. So at $150 per dentist visit and $0 for GP visits (not including prescriptions) I will pay $300/yr vs $900/$1600.

Do you think its smart for me to do this or do you recommend I get HI? Whats your experience and advice? The only thing I worry about is something unexpected like a back injury, some sort of emergency dental. Would those cost alot or is it covered by medicare/something else?

Relevant Information:

What is more economical? An insurance plan with a higher premium/ lower deductible, or a lower premium/ higher deductible?

The options for me and my spouse are:

Plan A: $295 premium ($3540 total for the year) $1500 individual /$3k family deductible $4500 individual / $9k family OOP max

Plan B: $165 premium ($1980 total for the year) $3k individual/ $6k family deductible $6350 individual / $12700 family OOP max

Both have equal coverage for everything else. The only differences are the costs listed above. What questions do I need to ask myself in order to figure out which one is a better deal? What's the benefit of reaching a deductible?

I posted something in /r/insurance too, but it doesn't seem like that sub is as active as this one.

Help, /r/autos! I'm contemplating buying a new car. I want something very sporty, compact, reliable, economical, and fun that won't raise my insurance bill too much. Price range $19K - $23K.

I own a Mazda 3, but it's boring doesn't get the best millage ever. I've thought about trading it in for something sportier like a 2012 Civic Si, but I'm not sure if there are other sports compact cars in the market that might be a better fit for me. Please help me weigh some options by giving my some suggestion and pros/cons for various cars.

The Mazdaspeed 3 is crazy fast, but the millage is poor and I heard that forced induction engines don't last as long as naturally aspirated ones. The Volkswagen GTI is cool, but out of my price range. The Ford Focus ST is also neat, but doesn't come out for another year. The Scion tC is boring as all fuck. The Civic Si seems cool, but it underperforms when compared to it's competitors and the body style looks a lot like the last generation.

Help Reddit!

EDIT: I should also point out that I'm strongly considering a 2012 Civic Si coupe. I know a lot of people are dogging on it, but it seems fairly quick and economical. Thoughts?

Most economical vehicle - Performance vs insurance buy back?

Yes, since the Moneypocalypse has happened, I wondered if getting a cheap run around that would be a nice little burner (thinking maybe a Blista compact modded out to fuck?) would be useful as we are not living with infinite cash supplies now. Has anyone got a list of how much roughly each car costs to get back and does it change depending on if you've modded it (aka added extra value).

So basically, looking for something cheap and fast!

YSK that if you are a stay at home parent, the work you do, while it holds no economic value, holds a lot of monetary value when you pay someone else to do it. You need life insurance.

Why YSK: Imagine paying someone to do what you do every day for an entire year. On average, a Nanny can make around $30,000 a year, and daycare can cost around $10,000 per year, but these costs don’t get close to the monetary value of the combined work and effort you provide. Although, according to the economy, your work doesn’t hold economic value, your work is incredibly valuable and will cost a lot to replace. You need about 10x the cost of your work in term life insurance to cover the costs of the value that you provide to your kids and/or to your home.

Received Loan May'20 Been asking for increases ever since DECLINED asked for Hazard Insurance, loan mod in process, Declined no economic injury sustained???

Hi everyone I have lurked on here reading for months trying to navigate my way through everything. I have a wholesale business which from Feb'20 we received order cancellations non stop and really took a hit to the point that it is like starting over after many many years. I applied for everything and last year May received a nice EIDL loan for which I thank the stars for.

Since August I have been asking for an increase knowing how the virus was getting worse and business was going bad. They always ask for the 4506 tax form, and then I get a decline after 2 months. I have emailed the recon email for an increase perhaps 4 times. My last email to recon was in Feb and then April 5th they requested documents DL, schedule of liabilities, etc, and April 21 someone contacted me for hazard insurance and emailed them the certificate the same day and eventually spoke to them to confirm they received it. I was so happy I didn't ask what it was for. Dont laugh please. I was delirious with happiness. Later my portal said "loan modification in process" until yesterday.

About a week ago I received a call saying my application was declined and the reason will be stated in the letter. Now I received the letter by email dated April 12th and it says "economic injury not sustained".... If you look at my 2019 and 2020 gross profits, they are less than half in comparison. My portal yesterday said "funded" and not "loan modification in process" and the other two applications from before which said declined both had blue buttons when I called the SBA, and after the call they were gone . The blue buttons on the declined applications were there only just yesterday for a few hours.

Mind you I already had a request out to recon when April 6th I received an invite to apply for an increase where you sent your identifying info only no docs, like everyone else to the cover increase email.

Do I have a chance still? Do I appeal again the decline and how do I show the economic injury to them if they are not seeing it? Do I compare the 2019 and 2020 gross receipts - cost of goods = income? It seems very obvious but I feel like there is some mistake or something. I am funding my business with personal loans from parents.

Help please.

If I could offer help to anyone I would. We are all in this together.

Advice on which uni to firm/insure for Economics?

Here’s what I’ve got to work with:

Glasgow AAB - economics Edinburgh AAA - economics UCL A*AA - economics with study abroad

I like the idea of flexible degrees in Scotland, getting away from my home in London for a bit and being in a new city. London is also really expensive if I go for UCL. But I feel weird declining an offer from UCL which might be deemed more β€œprestigious” esp as it has higher grades etc. Am I just in my own head?

Also does anyone know which uni and course might be β€œbetter” for Econ? Whatever that might entail?

Any advice/thoughts are appreciated!

Are there any studies about the economic impact of the conflict of interest between insurers wanting to maximize profits and having to paying out claims?

I've been searching Google for more information, but I'm mostly finding studies about insurance and economic growth.

I, like many, have dealt with insurance companies wanting to deny reasonable claims. Those who argue that insurance is privatized socialism are quick to point out that the goals of the providers and the consumers are not cleanly aligned. Insurance companies are claimed to deny as many claims as they possibly can without alienating too many potential customers.

For health insurance in particular, it took the ACA to require coverage for many vaccines (vaccines clearly being a public good here) and trying to end adverse selection.

(Side note: When I lived in Oregon years ago, there was a proposal to tax gasoline (just a few cents a gallon) and provide every driver in the state with free basic car insurance (imagine, cars getting free insurance before people!). The proposal died, but it was a fascinating idea and it would have helped many poor people in the state who were severely punished by laws surrounding insurance in Oregon.)
