A list of puns related to "Easter Rising (musical)"
I view it as turning point for Irish independence it forced the discussion towards Irish independence (as the leaders wanted). The brutal treatment showen towards Republicans immediately after the rising turned many away from British rule, and even home rule. After World War 1 ended Ireland was always going get independence.
This quote was relayed by Cumann na mBan member Brigid Lyons Thornton in the 1970s documentary Curious Journey about her time spent in prison immediately following the 1916 Easter Rising:
> Early that morning then I heard a terrible volley of shooting and I asked the one who came to me, a Miss McInnerney, I said βWhat was all the shooting this morning?β And she said, βThey were shooting some of the men.β Now I didnβt know who or what and I didnβt believe it. Later that day we were let out for about ten minutesβ exercise and we met a lot of other girls who had been at other centres during the week and I said to one of them. βI heard they were shooting the men.β And she said, βDonβt you worry, theyβre not going to shoot any of the men. Theyβd be too much afraid of America.β
> Well the next morning the shooting was on again and again and again, every morning after that at about five oβclock. I could hear the men marching out down by my cell door, a heavy march and then out and then the volleys.
Why would the British government fear some kind of response from the United States for executing what, from the Downing Street perspective, were unlawful rebels? Would the British have feared a U.S. government diplomatic response specifically or more a negative response from the American (and Canadian?) public? And more importantly, was an American response even a consideration at all for the government? If so it didn't stop them from executing 16 men. So why would Irish republicans believe that the British government would care?
Thank you!
Should the Easter rising of 1916 be added to the game?
To start, it take place Dublin, Ireland, near the western front! So it could happen.
If It was added, players would be able to play as a Irish rebel or a British soldier
Any other suggestions for my idea?
This Assembly Recognises-
[1] The historical importance of the Easter Rising of April 1916 and of the proclamation of the Irish Republic;
[2] The necessity to memorialise the shared history of the people of Northern Ireland, whether Unionist or Nationalist, to further the process of reconciliation and of the Northern Ireland Peace Process;
[3} The need to respect and honour the 485 people killed, including 260 civilians, and over 2,600 people wounded in the Easter Rising;
[4] The need for joint recognition of the deaths of 143 members of the British Army and Royal Irish Constabulary and 82 Irish Rebels, including the 16 rebels executed for their participation in the rising;
Therefore the assembly resolves to -
[1] Erect a memorial in honour of the Irish Republican rebels and British military and police personnel who died during the Easter Rising.
[2] Open and dedicate the memorial upon its completion in a joint and public ceremony in which representatives of both Unionist and Nationalist parties will be invited to attend.

Ceann Comharlie,
The centenary of the Easter Rising of 1916 has come and gone, but the animosities and divisions brought out of the insurrection remain. Proclaiming an Irish Republic, the Easter Rising began the struggle which culminated in Partition, a wound that cut through our communities and as a settlement paid for in blood.
Ours is a people haunted by ghosts. Only by bringing our past out of the shadows of our partisan myths and into the light of historical record can we secure a memory that will be the foundation for a lasting peace.
It is long overdue that we see each other, not as enemies engaged in a life and death struggle to determine the future of the people of Northern Ireland, but as neighbours tied by bonds of family, friendship and community. It is imperative upon us that we must grieve together and heal together, so that we bury our hatreds even as we keep the memory of the fallen alive.
As part of the Good Friday Agreement and of the Northern Ireland Act of 1998, all parties have accepted that the prospect of a United Ireland will be settled by a democratic referendum and a peaceful resolution of the Irish question. We have relinquished the force of arms and accept the decision of the people to determine their own future. Should the qualification of su

I know Ireland had a long history of insurrection and rebellion against Britain long before the Famine, but did the large death toll and mass emigration have a significant impact?
