Found this print while cleaning up after Christmas, too good not to share - amazing how much it has changed.
[Had some fun and ranked all 39 albums by His Bobness. Everything you are about to read is simply my opinion; whether you agree or disagree, letβs have a healthy, respectful dialogue in the comments!]
Released: April 9, 1969
Produced by: Bob Johnston
Nashville Skyline is so often discussed as a novelty (βItβs Bobβs country album!β; βHis voice is so different!β) that I occasionally forget how much I like it. Fortunately, all it takes is a brisk 27 minutes to be reminded of how solid this album is.
Coming off the pared down John Wesley Harding, and particularly the last two country-tinged tracks off that record, itβs both enthralling and satisfying to hear Dylan explore this sound further. Sonically, itβs a total success, thanks to Bob Johnstonβs production and the monster Nashville session musicians that elevate each song to a higher level. We were already lucky enough to have Charlie McCoy, Kenny Buttrey, and Pete Drake on John Wesley Harding; the additions of Norman Blake, Charlie Daniels, and Bob Wilson, among others, are beyond clutch. Their collaborative efforts create a soundscape as great as any other classic country record from this time period.
On Bobβs end, his stellar vocal delivery is the glue that holds this beautiful sound together. And although his lyricism is even more straightforward than the last album, it doesnβt suffer in the least. βLay Lady Layβ deserves all the praise it gets as a gorgeous plea of seduction and longing. βTonight Iβll Be Staying Here with Youβ, which Iβve always viewed as the sister song to βIβll Be Your Baby Tonightβ, is an equally wonderful, candid piece of songwriting. Conversely, βI Threw It All Awayβ and βTell Me That It Isnβt Trueβ are two of the finest heartbreaking ballads heβd written up to this point, with βOne More Nightβ playing the perfect role of breezy forlorn number.
Thereβs very little not to like on Nashville Skyline, especially if youβre a βCountry Pieβ defender like I am. I admittedly have never loved the βGirl from the North Countryβ duet with Johnny Cash. Itβs a fantastic song, but not only is it not as good as the original, itβs always felt a tad forced and unnatural to me, almost like an attempt to push th

Iβve lived on the East Side for 4 years now and normally find the nighttime trains to be soothing background noise for sleeping (I even have a white noise app with train sounds for when Iβm not here). But, this week it seems like the trains are going through town constantly laying on the horn the entire time in the middle of the night.
What gives?
Edit: no Iβm not going to take on the train people over the horns. Now, getting Amtrak access to the rails, on the other handβ¦. MOAR TRAINS
Title says it all. I just moved into a new home in East Nashville and have been using Google Fiber for about a month now. I'm now dealing with the second "outage" in two weeks for my area, going on about 5 hours now and the first was almost 8 hours. As someone who relies on consistent internet, this is detrimental for to my home business. Last time I was offered a $6 refund for a couple thousand dollars in lost billable time. I've been using Fiber in various cities for 6 years and I've never dealt with this level of bad business. Stick to AT&T.

Wow. I am a fairly new fan of Bob Dylan (started listening to him maybe 6 months ago), and I have really only listened in depth to his first albums up to and including Blonde on Blonde (plus Iβve also had Blood on the tracks on repeat for weeks). Compared to these albums, Nashville Skyline felt completely different. Dylanβs voice was so smooth and had such a nice tone compared to his other albums, he weirdly even sounded like Elvis on some of his lines. I found this album overall very accessible and fun, it probably helps thatβs itβs only around 26 minutes long. Standout tracks I especially enjoyed were Nashville Skyline Rag, Lay Lady Lay, and Country Pie.
What do the more long-time Dylan fans think of this album generally?
