There are cartels in other Central and South American countries right? So why don't they have the same public showings of violence as in Mexico?

I'm wondering. There are cartels and other armed criminal groups rampant in not only Mexico but in most other Hispanic countries too, right? Then how come this kind of shit never happens there like in Mexico or at least not at the same frequency? I know Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Colombia also have very high crime rates (as high if not higher than Mexico), but I've never heard of bodies being found hanging from a bridge in Honduras or dismembered bodies being dumped in the streets. Nor have I heard that many reports from the other places I listed.

Why is this kinda stuff more prevalent in Mexico?

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Looking to see if any men ever had the problem I just had...

So, I don't know if I have IC, OAB or BPH, the jury is still out. But when I complained about my frequent urination, the doctor first prescribed flomax, it did nothing. So then we tried Cialis. It seemed to help but it gave me wicked tinnitus so I had to quit it.

Recently, I was trying rapaflo. At first it seemed to work perfectly, but after about two weeks, the urgency was replaced with a dull pain that slowly progressed into an intense pain in my testicles that landed me in the hospital, I was so concerned. It also became even harder to urinate, usually taking 20 seconds or more of just standing in front of the toilet before anything came out (still would completely void though).

I've since quit that, and have also gone back on aloe capsules and the pain is subsiding a bit. I have more tests scheduled next week and hopefully we'll find a better treatment plan. I think I'm giving up on meds. Looking into instillation or electrical therapy.

But has anyone else had this reaction with flomax or any other drugs? It was so strange. I tried to look up information online, but I couldn't find anything.

If bladder mast cells are the issue, what is the best form of treatment?

I respond to hydroxyzine very well at times. Sometimes I don't have much of a response to it.

My pelvic floor PT told me my pelvic floor is not an issue. Diet is not an issue for me either. My Pelvic floor PT thought bladder instillations would be helpful. I've tried some of them before, and they don't really do much for me... the lidocaine makes me feel great, but then it wears off in a couple of hours and I'm back to feeling bad.

What kind of bladder instillation is good for targeting mast cell inflammation in the bladder? Or is there a drug that works better than hydroxyzine? I also take low dose amitriptyline.

Thanks!

Moral Grey Area, part thirty four.

Secret societies of human psychics called greys and invading aliens, aka what happens when the Shil'vati recruit the grain of truth behind the human myths of vampires and sorcerers.

First Previous Next

Part thirty-four: Riot grenades?

Major Vrey read the Galamo report, the public and secret versions.

The Draculesti were insisting on waiting and allowing the ship and warriors time to recover but after such an act the nobility wanted to capitalise on the advantage now and strike more colonies to instigate a war between the consortium and alliance.

But reading the tribes own reports made for a more sobering realistic view.

This attack had pushed them to almost breaking, the queen had stress cracks in the hull that were being repaired, some of the cabals had been exposed to the chemical soup they’d been dumping and were laid out sick still awaiting recovery.

The assault had also taken a mental toll this kind of slaughter would normally require the PTSD drugs given to normal imperial military but greys couldn’t use them, not only did they not work but even if massively diluted they could cause near fatal allergic reactions, thankfully in all of the tests grey medics were nearby who could actually administer the necessary treatment.

Vrey had been consulted due to her familiarity of earth greys and what she said would have weight.

So, she began to write her assessment.

To all concerned, the Draculesti grey are not a main line military unit, they receive no support bar technical expertise and raw materials which they have to process and assemble themselves, greys for all their power are very susceptible to chemical exposure and do not receive any reinforcement from any earth-based tribe at all…

Their only FTL ship is in need of repair due to hull stress incurred during combat, deploying this vessel without said repairs is suicidal and may result in our enemies gaining its unique organic technology and samples of its crew via salvage, either would be disastrous.

Their soldiers are currently undergoing recovery from the toxins and psychological strains endured, Counter PTSD medications are both ineffective and potentially lethal to their unique nature.

Where is James' Money? Two Wolves in Sheep's Clothing: Alpha House and the Dongs

Okay, I took a dive into Alpha House, the place James was sent to work recover. Side note, I am therapist who has worked in substance use for quite some time. The following information is public, being that it is from their website, or B's mouth. I also called them, and inquired about the services/fees/programming/etc., which is also very much public information. I did not and would never inquire about James.

I would also like to add that we have these types of places where I live. I have worked with many clients who have attended these types of programs (none who have attended Alpha House), and an overwhelming majority have expressed the awful conditions and unreasonable work requirements. Many of my clients have referred to these places as β€œa labor camp under the guise of Christianity, and that recovery was focused on humiliation, degradation of human morale, and consistent instilling of inferiority and incompetency.” I have one client who told me that when he first got out of the van, the owner of the facility said β€œyou look like you can carry a dresser on your back”, and promptly had him moving heavy furniture for 8 hours in the summer heat.. in the south, while undergoing withdrawal from drugs.

Okay.. now to Alpha House.

General Website/Director

Starting off, they have a pretty shitty website. Many of the links to navigate their own page are broken. It isn’t user friendly, definitely not intuitive to the reader, and as expected the ratio of Black people to white people represented in their imagery is about 1:30. The irony of the shitty website is not lost there, considering the Co-Founder and Director of Alpha House, Brian D. Wade, is also the Owner and Project Director of Stars & Stripes, which is the website building platform used to make this website. Yes, you read that right, Brian leads and operates both Alpha House (for 5+ years), as well as a website making business (for 18+ years). And as expected, according to his LinkedIn, all his experience is in technology/website design. Brian has zero background in any helping profession and zero credentials or licensure appropriate for working with people living with addiction. He does have some old volunteer opportunities that lasted 1-2 years (Campus Crusade for Christ, Boy Scout Mentor, etc.), with a handful of them being in…… religious fundraising. Upon further digging, I found mention that a person by the name of Matthew Allen Wade (who looks just like Brian and is most likely his b

The best advice on managing NPD I've ever read

I just want everyone here to read this.

This is from Sam Vaknin's book. I have an opinion about him.

He's a great authority on the disorder, but he's also very unempathetic, fatalistic and demonizing when regarding Narcissists.

I read the main part of his book while I was going through my own ego-death process, or the mortification of my false-self.

It was extremely painful. The main part of the book is followed by numerous FAQs, which I did not read because the author is... too sadistic.

Today, I decided to read a few of the FAQs. I was astonished to see the best advice I've ever seen. I've known most of these principles by now, but they are so well articulated, Vaknin is talking so much sense... It's like, he stopped being sadistic for just a few pages of text.

I hope everyone finds this helpful. Good luck with your recovery!

-----

Vaknin's book, 10th edition (with FAQs), FAQ #45

Reconditioning the Narcissist

Points to Ponder

The narcissist can curb his antisocial and self-destructive behaviours by developing self-awareness and a regime of conditioning and reinforcement via self-parenting.

Question: Can someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder be treated successfully?

Answer: Narcissistic Personality Disorder has been recognized as a distinct mental health diagnosis a little more than two decades ago. There are few who can honestly claim expertise or even in-depth understanding of this complex condition.

No one knows whether therapy works. What is known is that therapists find narcissists repulsive, overbearing and unnerving. It is also known that narcissists try to co-opt, idolize, or humiliate the therapist.

But what if the narcissist really wants to improve? Even if complete healing is out of the question – behaviour modification is not.

To a narcissist, I would recommend a functional approach, along the following lines:

  1. Know and accept yourself. This is who you are. You have good traits and bad traits and you are a narcissist. These are facts. Narcissism is an adaptive mechanism. It is dysfunctional now, but, once, it saved you from a lot more dysfunction or even non-function. Make a list: what does it mean to be a narcissist in your specific case? What are your typical behaviour patterns? Which types of conduct do you find to be counterproductive, irritating, self-defeating, or self-destructive? Which are productive, constructive and should be preserved despite their pathological origin?
  2. Try to sup

Norskk

TLDR: Norskkk is a bunch of Thoraboos being Grifted by a French-Canadian claiming to be Norwegian with a bunch of stuff that will radicalize people to dangerously far-right ideologies.

To begin, an obligatory β€œFuck Norskk” (hereafter to be referred to as Norskkk for connotative reasons)

For reference I will be using their term β€œViking” to describe the wider Norse culture as they use it interchangeably and it makes it easiest should anyone wish to search their several sites for the articles I will be discussing.

It is also ESSENTIAL that you understand this is not a matter of theology. I don't think Norskkk is "worshipping wrong", I don't think they are worshipping at all. Nowhere in any of their sites does it mention reciprocity, the gifting cycle, the Tree and Well, or even basic concepts such as Frith and Wyrd. Instead they simply use the imagery, the the verbage, use the aesthetic, while projecting their own warped worldview.

Norskkk is a male-centric Norse-pagan grifting network run by Christopher Fragassi (sometimes known by the moniker Bjornsen). I first came across them years ago when I was looking more deeply into Norse and Germanic Paganism. I have taken the dive many times to point out specific flaws in their rhetoric, history, ideology, and general nonsense, today I am giving a short (yes, this is the condensed version) exploration of them so that you can understand some of the problems and be aware of them moving forward. This partial deconstruction, like a night of passion, comes in several parts.

Part 1 – The (a)Historicity

While many of us consider ourselves knowledgeable and well-read, and many more seek to become such themselves, Norskkk claims to be a teacher despite being foolishly ignorant. Unfortunately I will not get a chance to be a grammatical nitpicker of their information as there are just too many poorly translated terms and words to be able to speak on anything else, nor will I get a chance to delve into their hideously twisted and warped projections of Norse Myth.

On their various websites (not linked, because I believe their content to be genuinely less than worthless, though you are more than capable of finding them) you will find a variety of articles covering a range of ancient and modern topics including (but not limited to) Valhol, Vaccines, Horned Helmets, hair and beards, the roles of Disabled peoples, Cheese (I’m not kidding), drugs, shamanism, circumcision, ethnopurity, dietary constraints, marriage, Loki,

John McWhorter's "Woke Racism": You should read it and so should your woke friends.

This is a positive review and qualified recommendation of Woke Racism by John McWhorter.

TL;DR McWhorter ruthlessly dissects the mindset of woke racists and spells out the harm they're doing to both black people and victims of cancellation. Hand this book to annoying relatives and friends who won't stop accusing everyone of being white supremacists.

If you read just one quote, I want it to be this one:

>Marx warned, in his Inaugural Address to the International Working Men’s Association in 1864, of a β€œsolidarity of defeat,” where what energizes people’s sense of themselves as a group is obstacles forced on them from an enemy above. Marx thought of this as a holding pattern and urged true revolution; black America can seem oddly stuck in almost brandishing the defeat as a badge of pride. (92)

My reservations are: (A) McWhorter is a liberal, not a socialist, (B) most of what McWhorter has to say may strike this sub as all too obvious, and (C) his anti-religious tone may be off-putting. My hope is that you could at least agree that woke people have the wrong religion.

Still, the book has some things going for it:

  1. It is the kind of book you can hand to your liberal friends as an attempt to reach them. The fact that this message is coming from a black liberal professor makes it accessible and hard to dismiss out of hand, something McWhorter himself recognizes: "A version of this book written by a white writer would be blithely dismissed as racist (11)."
  2. McWhorter utilizes a very effective rhetorical strategy in declaring his aims and intended audience. He says his message is not aimed at conservatives, although they're welcome to listen in, and it's also not aimed at the woke people themselves, who he considers beyond reason. The whole point is to figure out how liberals can make progress despite harmful woke ideology. Perhaps intentionally, this instills cognitive dissonance in woke readers as they try to wrap their heads around the claim that their wokeness actually impedes progress, and arguing with them is a pain in the ass.
  3. The book is short and an easy read, so you can knock it out in a day or two then hand it to your most annoying woke relative.

In case you're interested in a summary, keep reading. If you aren't, ignore what follows.

At the outset, McWhorter describes why woke people are on his nerves:

>...white people calling themselves our saviors make black people look like the dumbest, weakest, most self-in

Apparently, all of the Blues handicapped accessible seats have been sold to corporate scalpers.

I’m so pissed about this.

WARNING: WALL OF TEXT INCOMING

Preface: My Dad was an NHL referee (’67 to ’72) so he somehow got a deal where he could get Blues season tickets at a pretty good price. We had season tickets from the time I was born (1970) until they blew up the old Arena. To this day I don’t know how he got this deal, but apparently it only applied to the Arena. During this time either my sister or I would go to AT LEAST one game a week or sometimes both of us would get to go to a game in that week.

Also, understand that we were not well off. I think it was a combination of whatever deal he had finagled and the fact that tickets (in the 80’s) were $17.50 a seat in the Arena Circle level, which were the yellow seats in the middle of the 3 tiers. Our seats for that entire time were the same at center ice about halfway up the Arena Circle section. Again, those were the printed prices on the tickets. He got them at a substantial discount.

After he retired from the NHL he spent his time refereeing from mini-mite through high school hockey leagues. I remember being about 5 or 6 years old at a game at the old Immerfrost rink on S. Kingshighway where I first realized people DID NOT like the referees. That was a mind opening realization for a 5-year-old.

He put me through the Meramec Sharks program and drug my sister (7 years younger than me) to all of my games. He instilled in both of us a love of hockey that is only achieved through generational dedication to a sport.

While I was in college in Springfield, MO, my sister got in a car accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. She was unable to walk, unable to talk and had difficulty with fine motor skills with her hands. She ended up living up with my Dad and Mom. My dad stopped going to games for a number of reasons: cost and the inability to take my sister, since he would have to go into the ladies rooms to allow her to use the bathroom, etc.

However, they watched every single game that was televised together. They Bled Blue.

When the Blues won the cup he figured he could finally shuffle off this mortal coil, In February of this year, at the age of 87, he died peacefully. On November 26th, my Mom followed him to the great Arena in the sky. As one of his lifelong friends said: β€œAt least he got 9 months of peace and quiet”, LOL. They were married for 51 years.

So to get to the point finally, I decided to take my sister to her first game in 24 years for a Christmas present and got on Tic

I found the journal of a scientist who worked in The United People's Institute of Science. His predecessor went mad.

I β€” II β€” III β€” IV

March 29th 1988

It’s an indescribable rush of anxiety. Seconds after the syringe enters my skin I can feel it creeping down my spine. Every worry, every hopeless prognosis of the future β€” each and every bit of stress that gathers in the back of my brain throughout the day comes to the foreground. The tension all gathers into one pulsating blister of gritted teeth and sweaty palms and then β€” pop. It disappears.

It usually takes me around fifteen minutes to stop vomiting. It’s not euphoria. It’s not pleasant. The syringes force me to reach deep into my depth and regurgitate what feels like a bottomless well of neurosis. When that well does finally does run dry, however, all that is left is a sense of detachment.

I spend my days exploring knowledge that could bring an end to human civilization β€” interesting. My mental wellbeing has deteriorated to a point of no return β€” an insightful observation. Each day a couple dozen souls work underground trying to bend the scientific method to the rules of the incomprehensible under the threat of catastrophe β€” sounds stressful.

I am still aware of the soul crushing weight of my position, but when I am sober the burden feels personal, like it’s something that belongs to me. Once the initial discomfort of the syringe has worn off, that concept of tension becomes wholeheartedly abstract.

I scarcely touch the liquor now. I don’t need it.

I wake up to the siren. I march to the Institute. I take part in the horrid study that fate has trapped me in. I march back to my cramped hotel room. I inject the syringe. I vomit. I calm. I go to sleep. I wake up to the siren.

My days have started to blend into each other, only being interrupted by notable glimpses of knowledge I regularly salvage from the shaman tapes. At some point last week Dr. Herkel stopped by my lab to discuss progress on my research. I am pretty confident that he is responsible for the syringes arriving in my room every day. He did not ask about the medicine directly, but he did make implications towards the sort of sacrifices a sci

with gamer discourse reaching a fever pitch, you might be interested to read rsp-approved author christopher lasch on 'games' and 'play'

these quotes are taken from a chapter in The Culture of Narcissism, "The Degradation of Sport." While much of the chapter focuses on sports (obviously, he published this in the '70s and wasn't thinking of "games" the way we are), and some of the best quotes in the chapter are more specifically relating to sports + therefore not included here, i think his conception of the social value of "play" leads to a much more interesting critique than the one most of y'all are attempting to make:

> "Among the activities through which men seek release from everyday life, games offer in many ways the purest form of escape. Like sex, drugs, and drink, they obliterate awareness of everyday reality, but they do this not by dimming awareness but by raising it to a new intensity of concentration. Moreover, they have no side effects, hangovers, or emotional complications. Games simultaneously satisfy the need for free fantasy and the search for gratuitous difficulty; they combine childlike exuberance with deliberately created complications. By establishing conditions of equality among the players, according to Roger Caillois, games attempt to substitute ideal conditions for "the normal confusion of everyday life." They recreate the freedom, the remembered perfection of childhood, and mark it off from ordinary life with artificial boundaries, within which the only constraints are the rules to which the players freely submit. Games enlist skill and intelligence, the utmost concentration of purpose, on behalf of activities utterly useless, which make no contribution to the struggle of man against nature, to the wealth or comfort of the community, or to its physical survival. The uselessness of games makes them offensive to social reformers, improvers of public morals, or functionalist critics of society like Veblen, who saw in the futility of upper-class sports anachronistic survivals of militarism and prowess. Yet the "futility" of play, and nothing else, explains its appeal-its artificiality, the arbitrary obstacles it sets up for no other purpose than to challenge the players to surmount them, the absence of any utilitarian or uplifting object. Games quickly lose their charm when forced into the service of education, character development, or social improvement."

> "The intense subjectivity of modern work, exemplified even more clearly in the office than in the factory, causes men and women to doubt the reality of the external world and to imprison themselves, as not

She had no idea what was going on but I finally did it.

Thank you all for listening.

I found the journal of a scientist who worked in The United People's Institute of Science. He was tasked with exploring some disturbing footage.

First set of entries

November 6th 1987

This morning, much like the morning prior, I woke up to the howls of the hotel siren. As I marched through the woods with the lab-coat wearing procession I found myself wondering if my commutes would ever feel sane. By the time we reached the vaulted ceilings of the Institute it became painfully clear that the normalcy of my commute was going to be the least of my worries.

Today I was introduced to my subject of study.

With the breed of science being explored at the Institute there is an understandable reluctance to capture data in an easily digestible form. Most of our findings are to be kept on ciphered microfilms so that no information can fall into the wrong hands. This morning, however, Dr. Herkel gave me a manila envelope with clearly printed text. I was to incinerate the documents as soon as I read them.

My subject of study is β€˜Reel X04-22’ a roll of film retrieved from an abandoned cinema in Central Asia shortly after the First World War. The description of the film reel was short and clinical:

β€œFilm reel β€” No audio β€” 14 minutes β€” 15120 frames β€” 295 meters

Contains footage of shaman singing on stage. 4:32 minute mark more individuals appear. Audio of shaman’s song present even though film reel is silent. View with caution, adhere to all safety measures.”

The β€˜safety measures’ made up the grand majority of the documents. The tape was never to leave the viewing room attached to my office. There was a set of goggles for me to wear developed specifically for the occasion of viewing the film-reel. When observing the film-reel I was also to handcuff myself to the chair to ensure my own safety.

The β€˜safety measures’ were somewhat unnerving to read, but I was relieved to find out that my study wouldn’t center on any unsettling parasites from Antarctica. The comfortable layout of my research station calmed me as well.

The space is divided into two rooms. The first room is designated for manipulation of the film-reel itself. Just about every bit of cinema related technology from the past hundred years is on display. Different brands of editing tables and cameras and lights cover the whole laboratory floor to ceiling β€” I would imagine that even the best funded of film studios do not have access to this sort of equipment. The second room is considerably less crowded. The second room is a private c
