A list of puns related to "Dopesick (miniseries)"
I think itβs a series a lot of premeds would enjoy and it gives some historical context to one of the reasons why the opioid pandemic is so terrible these days. Really does a good job of humanizing drug addicts and is extremely well acted and very interesting. 10/10 would recommend.
The shows are very different and preaching very different message. There are more differences than similarities but what they do have in common is a Billionaire family and their impact on America. While the Roys/Logan are destroying an intangible part of society by attacking and shaping the minds and views of the masses for worse, the Sacklers and Purdue Pharma quite literally and knowingly killed Americans to turn a buck. The Sacklers are greed and evil personified.
All the times you thought about how anyone could get away with the terrible things done by the people in Succession, it is drop in the ocean compared to the literal murder that the Sackler family got away with in real life. What is funny is more people will know the names of the Roy family than have even heard about the Sackler family and the Sacklers/Purdue Pharma likely had a hand in the death/addiction of someone somewhere connected to you.
I love Succession for what it shows us of the human condition but quite a few of us fall in love or defend any number of different individuals from the show. It is probably an exercise in fiction or fantasy and not our real feelings about the characters but watching Dopesick it really puts into perspective the gulf in our lives and theirs.
All that aside the show/miniseries Dopesick is actually a very good watch with some amazing performances. Most everyone brings their A-game in terms of ensemble but Michael Keaton, Rosario Dawson, and Kaitlyn Dever in particular are great as the two sides of the same coin in terms of the human tragedy unfolding. It really is a good watch, albeit gut wrenching especially if you know someone who has gone through addiction.
Just thought I'd recommend a show for y'all as the long wait for Succession Season 4 begins!
He said it was very addictive

I was fine, mentally I feel okay due to pregabalin's high and most of the pain is gone, but I suddenly feel cold, get chills and all I wanna do is sleep. I just took another 2mg clonazepam sublingually after a 40% liquor shot (I have taken 4mg in total, my daily prescribed dosage and I'm running low). I can't buy kratom since I have no money and can't ask (they think I have covid) since my fam (well my aunt) knew I stopped using like half month ago. I've taken a strong OTC painkiller (mesulid) that helped with the joint pain.
All I can think about is dope and I literally can buy like 300mg for 1 euro and it's so tempting. I'm hungry yet I can't eat. I ask my only friend that I have left to go out but right now I'm in no position to go out (the dope sickness + the pregabalin dizziness)
I was using up to 1 gram everyday for 5 days, before that I was using again like a gram every other day or every 2-3 days. It's now been almost 25 hours since I last used. How much will it take for the WD's to go away? I'm usually the type who would research and stuff but my mind is a mess right now and I can't think straight.
Help.
If you haven't watched Dopesick, you should. Keaton's transformation across 8 episodes is so mesmerising to watch as it unfolds on screen.
Based on Beth Macy's non-fiction book, 'Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America', the things revealed in this limited series about prescription pain medication OxyContin and the money-hungry company Purdue Pharma behind it all, are damming and essential. Dopesick is mainly centered around the slow-burn investigation of an incorrectly labeled drug, with a story that spans over a decade or more. And along with taking away any trust the viewer had for the medical industry, the series shows how scary it is that something so detrimental can take such a long time to get resolve, while more and more people get addicted and eventually succumb to this crisis. It's mainly a legal drama but Dopesick doesn't gloss over the human side of the story, fictionalizing the real lives of real people who fell victim to scheme to sell drugs and make more money.
Dopesick is absolutely heartbreaking and sometimes even hard to watch. A series that will probably have you second guessing every pill you'll ever have to take in the future... which is why I find it quite bold that this series was released in the midst of a pandemic where there are anti-vaxxers and all that. Quality-wise though, the series is very good, with great performances across the board. I have seen complaints about the non-linear layout of the narrative, which switches back and forth between time periods contently, but I thought it was the most understandable and poetic way to present it all. My main issue was with the length... or more specifically how they used it. With 8-episodes, which felt like 2 could've been shaved off, and with each episode having a 1-hour length time, that could sometimes feel underused, a lot of the plot points are overstressed, and some sub-plots didn't wrap up quite as effectively as I'd hope. Still, Dopesick is a great series that feels very relevant and important.
rating: 8.2 out of 10
Brilliant show. Up there with Chernobyl for me.
Cinematography is top notch, the cast is strong across the board, Michael Keaton kills it and the plot deals with an actual issue.
The first episode is a little clumsy with the setup, but by the end of the second episode it's got You by the throat and does not let go. If You're looking for something to watch, You should check it out!
P.S. it's got Radiohead in the soundtrack, and it's dope
I just finished watching "Dopesick" on Disney Plus and man, am I emotionally drained.
"The Big Short" taught me a lot about the 2008 financial crisis, even though I lived through it as a teenager and could have probably read up on it as it was happening. It just depressed me that a few people in positions of power would abuse a (surprisingly vulnerable) system for monetary gain, at the expense of hundreds of thousands of people. And then to learn that barely any of them actually faced any real justice was just a twist of the knife.
"Don't Look Up" was just too real at times with what would likely happen if there really was a giant comet headed towards earth. I mean, I didn't think a virus could be politicized, but here we are. I guess a comet isn't too far off from the myriad of things we can attach political labels to.
"Dopesick" was very much like watching "Big Short" where I feel like I should have known more about this than what I actually knew. Again, that money is such an incentive for fucking over millions of people.
I'm fairly realistic in my worldview and I know full well just how shitty we can be to one another, but sometimes it just stings more than I thought I could bear.
ExposΓ©/it goes all the way to the top! kind of stuff.
Also any good crime limited series (like Mare of Easttown, The Night Of).
Doesn't have to be a true story or based on one. Just well done! Thanks!
Edit: to clarify, limited series meaning 1 really awesome season :)
Also glad this story is being told like this.
And shoutout to kaitlin Dever as Betsy.
I was really impressed by her in Unbelievable.
Excited to see her in future roles.
(also loving Randy)
I have 3 years clean, literally just celebrated on 1/9. Unfortunately I also got Covid and became sick on 1/9 (Happy anniversary to me! I feel like I'm dying!) I hardly ever have cravings anymore, my doc was heroin and crack. I work in a treatment facility, I have an amazing family, a good life. I cant remember the last time I wanted to use heroin. But man.... Right now I'm sick, and still have to take care of my 4 month old, and my LOVELY work was like oh it's okay, you can just work from home! Make sure you get your hours in this week lol! So I was trying to balance everything while also under 2 blankets and with a splitting headache, and I just lost it earlier. I was like fuck this, I'm going to get a bag, almost called someone and told them I have the whip if they have the plug. I started bawling, gave my baby to my mom, texted my boss and told her I didnt think I was gonna get my hours in and went to sleep. Obviously didnt get high and I'm not going to, but I'm looking for some support and also wondering if this is just normal. I've never heard of this or read anything about it before. I mean it makes sense right, for 10+ years my solution to being sick was to get high, and now I'm sick and stressed and my brain still goes there..
Anyone else watched Dopesick on DisneyPlus yet? It's about the Oxy crisis in America. I found it so interesting on it's own merit (I'm actually watching it for the second time now) but it actually got me thinking about diazepam and why we provide it here in Scotland, especially with the known issues we have and trust me the rate at which a person becomes tolerant (if thats the right word) is fast.
I thought I would share because I guess a lot of people will be restricting their social activity in the lead up to Christmas and may want something to keep them occupied but also because to me Oxy feels like the relationship we had/ have to diazepam and so thought others may identify/ be interested.
If it breaks rules then I understand.
Edit: Thinking about that bit at the beginning "curing America of its pain" rather than looking at why people are in pain and creating a more equal society. Obviously we don't want to leave people to suffer alone but diazepam doesn't fix issues, it just covers over them and not for very long.
Be it confronting some asshole, getting into a fight, drunk driving, anything where you stopped yourself because you knew the chanced of getting locked up and going without methadone was high.
I was in my local grocery store parking lot a little while ago and I hear someone shouting "SIT DOWN, SIT THE FUCK DOWN NOW" for like 10 seconds. I look around and see this guy about 50 yards yelling at his husky. All I wanted to do was push him down and yell "SIT THE FUCK DOWN" at him like he did his dog but I looked at my takehome box in the truck and just got in my truck and drove away. I dont feel good about it because I like animals more than people and this guy looked like such a fucking douchebag (skinny jeans, beanie, big ass gold watch, oversized headphones) that it would have felt so good but man that fear of being dopesick in jail is a motherfucker
Iβm constantly wondering if I have Covid when I get dope sick. Is it just me? lol. Currently I have good reason since the person Iβm living with got Covid and she was vaccinated with the booster and still got it. I feel like shit but hell I always feel like shit lol. I donβt have a fever or anything but still Iβm not sure. Staying quarantined for now just to be safe though.
Update: yeah guys, I got tested and I have the Rona.
Huluβs dopesick started out a bit slow, but it at least was totally Honest in itβs depiction, not pulling any punches Right up until they did by pretending that suboxone was some sort of panacea for the drug problems in this country, when anyone who knows anything about this knows that there is no panacea and since everyone is physiologically different, there is no one size fits all answer. Really upset with this programs writers choice to give so many false hope by actively pretending like suboxone will help everyone who takes it. How much money did this show get from the pharmaceutical industry to push this dangerous lie??
It was the start of the opiate epidemic. The whole system was flawed. They failed everyone. Marketing a class 2 drug as non-addictive was insane. Oxy is one of the most addictive drugs. Livelihoods are destroyed. Makes you really sad thinking about it. Purdue pharma have blood on their hands like all the big pharma companies. Our dependency on these drugs is disturbing. Michael keaton and kaitlyn dever killed it.
Okay so my main question to this post is why was Oxycontin such a problem when Vicodin or Percocet wasn't? It said in the series that percocet and vicodin had been around way before oxycontin. I ask because in my experience I have taken vicodin and percocet mainly Watson and mallincrockdt brand and I always loved the high I find it euphoric, warm, and stimulating. I have tried the new oxycontin the orangish 20mg the gummy one and also the mundipharma oxycontin which I think is the same as the original formula oxycontin but not sure maybe someone can clarify that and I found them both mildly euphoric but WAY more sedating and made me super tired like I needed to fall asleep all the time and can't see how anyone who prefer this over percocet or vicodin. My questions are maybe the new oxycontin is a different formula than the original and the mundipharma isn't the same? Does anyone have any experience with the original oxycontin? Whats it like? As well compared to percocet and vicodin or norcos? Why was it so much more a problem than the percocet and vicodin was it that much better? Were doctors really prescribing it that freely before The? The only thing I can think why it was more of a problem than the others was doctors were duped into prescribing it more freely thus way more people had access and tried it. Also oxycontin goes up to higher does where percocet an vicodin only goes up to 10mg if I'm not mistaken. Any experiences or replies will be appreciated thanks!
Ps also im wondering why I had such different experiences with those drugs if anyone knows! Thanks
Edit: Thanks everyone for your responses I will try to reply to everyone individually at some point today! Also to clear things up the reason why I ask the question because in the series it made it seem like people only wanted oxycintin and would rob and steal for only it and I was just curious why not the other drugs like percocet vicodin Lortab I thought maybe the original oxycontin was really amazing or something because if I was going through withdrawals and would Rob a pharmacy I would take all opioids
