I am an Ajax supporter for a long time. Before Van de Beek went to Man U I really would of loved if he went too you guys. Donny is a attacking midfielder, a guy who turns up betweens the lines and bangs one in. Not a CDM like you see him play in Man U. My question is how would you feel if he joined you guys?
To all Man Utd fans. So yesterday I saw a lot of Man Utd fans crisising Van de Beek about where he positioned himself in this video (the Greenwood skill video).
I would like to argue that he actually made the correct run to help Greenwood as much as possible. Man Utd fans said Donny should have been running towards the middle where there was open space. In my opinion this would make Greenwood's job only more difficult because that would mean the open space would be blocked and Greenwood doesn't have any options left. I would argue that Martial should have been the one to drop off to right a little. That would mean that a triangle would be created between Greenwood, Martial and Donny. So along with continueing his dribble, Greenwood would have two other options: passing it to Martial or back to Donny who then can pass it to Martial or do something else.
Another reason why Donny had the right position is because this is actually one of his strongpoints. If Greenwood wouldn't had lost the ball so quickly, Donny would have been able to make an overlapping run to then cross or cut it back to the strikers, or continue quick combinaton play with Greenwood. I have made a little compilation that sort of shows this. In my opinion, this is one of his strongest assests. It creates space for himself but also for his teammates. He is most dangerous if he can end up in a halfspace, almost all of his runs are directed at that.

I've just seen a headline that says "Utd will rebuff any Donny Van De Beek offers, considering a disastrous debut season". I wouldn't call it disastrous, when he's hardly had anytime on the pitch, instead Pogba was getting picked during one of his whatever he wants to call it week in week out. Despite his poor performances. Anybody feel DVB hasn't got the time in he should be getting?
