A list of puns related to "Dislocated thumb"
I was wondering, how you fix a dislocated thumb in a survival scenario?
it hurts so damn much and i cant even play minecraft the llaughing gas didnt work either which kinda sucked and i could feel the doctor pulling my thumb if i sprlt anythung wrong itsbecause i cant really type with one hand
But thankfully it was just like riding a bike!
I've been playing guitar for more than 10 years now. I'm not saying I'm an amazing player, not saying that everything should come easy to me, but hey, I'm saying that when I heard Neon was a real challenge, I was really eager to try it for myself. I heard a lot of "chord shapes are insane, dude, he uses his thumbs a lot", and I thought to myself "well, I know how to play a lot of Hendrix stuff and I like to use my thumb, it shouldn't be that hard", but I was definitely not ready for what happened.
Learning the riff was manageable, but not easy at all, specially for two things:
keeping the beat with the thumb slap for both the snare and the kick while playing very fast (this song is 202 bpm) while properly pronouncing all the notes, but hey, that's something I can practice everyday and get better!
left hand thumb. Yo, seriously, what the hell? I have tiny hands, some chords are virtually impossible to me. I even do some tricks, like, when he slides with his thumb (seriously, what the hell?) I do the slide first and the chord after. I mean, look at this picture:
dude is mutant, this thumb size is not human
Riff was kind of working out, but the problem came when I tried the pre-chorus. there's one chord - Gb6(9) - with a huge hand opening. Well... my thumb was already hurting from learning the riff, but nothing extraordinary. But last night, when I was practicing the pre-chorus I heard a "clank" from my hand and excruciating pain lol. I put some ice on it, but nevertheless I woke up without being able to move my thumb. I applied ice again today and it's getting better (typing this without using my thumb took a while too lol).
Worst part? I'm pissed that I can't practice!!! I'm obsessed with this song!!
Well, long story short: Do you guys have any tips? lol. Also this song was a great gateway for me! I started listening to John Mayer now and the only thing I can think is "why I didn't start sooner?" This guy is a beast as a guitarist, maybe the best of the century!
I also wanted to share, since most of my friends aren't musicians (or aspiring musicians) and really wanted someone to understand my pain.
Back in May 2015, I was in the pit band in a production of Les Mis. I was the only violinist so tasked with playing loud, and because it was out of town, the band showed up on Sunday and rehearsed all day every day until Thursday when we started doing the show. Standard stuff, except a 3.5 hour show and double cast so at least 7 hours of playing per day. On one of the last days going into about hour 6 or so, I feel my wrist snap and go numb. Something was terribly wrong, but I had to just plow throw it. Don't do that.
When I make it back home, I book a physio appointment and eventually we figure out that due to excessive pronation and a tense bow hold, I had dislocated a bone in my wrist (lunate or capitate, can't remember.) My therapist reset the bone, and it would eventually regain its range of motion, although was always very stiff. We just placed the stiffness and slight discomfort at the extremes of range to its freshness and that it would go away. During this time I would try playing again, but usually dislocate it again because I couldn't correct my bad habits. Eventually some more teachers helped me realize some of these inefficiencies and showed me how to bow with less arm pronation. This worked and greatly lengthened the stretches I could play without dislocating again, then I'd have to book physio and get it relocated until I figured out how to do it myself. I've literally dislocated and re-placed the bone over a dozen times.
Since then, I have had successes still, struggling uphill against a stiff hand and reduced strength but still able to fake my way through my work and studies. I began a master's degree and while I've made a lot of progress, I came to terms that because of my limitations from my injury, this might be my last hurrah as after school it would be impossible to stay competitive. I still couldn't stretch my wrist without extreme soreness or discomfort, couldn't stretch my thumb down to my wrist, couldn't whisk or shake my hand, and didn't have the strength to place weight on it like in a pushup. This made playing at the tip, playing chords (especially up bow), and really fast whippy playing very uncomfortable and sore. It's been really sad watching myself barely grip onto the music I already know, and incapable of really learning anything new.
Violin aside, my mentors mentioned that my hand shouldn't be so stiff and that I should have done strengthening, and it didn't sit right that I should be afraid of falling on my wrist at

So I sprained my thumb just over a week ago while I was punching someone and hit him weirdly (for karate, I donβt just start punching people in the street). Woo. No big deal, it was fine. No brace or anything, I was just given a note and told not to play any sports or do anything that could hurt it even more.
Sure, fine. Iβm going to completely ignore that when it comes to my karate class, but sure...
The stage is set. I walk into school on Monday, and my PE class rolls around. I pull out my doctorβs note and get ready to explain to my teacher that I canβt do basketball.
Now my teacher... sheβs a bit of a wacko. She never believes anyone when they canβt do PE and says that theyβre making excuses, when 9/10 times they are not. This usually ends with a couple of phone calls to make sure and she is always proven wrong.
As expected, she immediately shut me down. βNo you havenβt, youβre fine. You arenβt wearing a brace, it isnβt swollen, youβre fineβ I handed her the note, signed by my doctor and my parents, and she scoffed and handed it back to me. βYouβre lying. Go and get changed for basketball, youβre playing.β
I told her once again that Iβm not, and I held out my hand and wiggled my thumb around as much as I could, literally wincing when I pushed it too far.
My teacher, being the wacko bitch that she is, then took my hand into hers and just stared at it for a while. βYouβre fine. Go. Get. Changed.β I could see her getting really annoyed by now.
βMiss, go and-β
βOh for godβs sake!β She snapped, and bear in mind she was still holding my hand in hers, she then proceeded to grab my thumb and before I could snatch it away, she bent it back as far as she could.
I fucken screamed.
Who in their right mind does that?!
I screamed at her, asking her what the fuck was wrong with her (much like with the other teacher who pulled out my damn eyelashes. Why do they always choose me?!) and another girl saw me as she was coming out of the dressing room and went to get one of the other teachers.
When she came back, I was seconds away from punching Wacko Teacher. The new teacher (NT), literally had to hold me back.
We all then noticed my thumb was getting redder and redder rapidly, and it was already quite swollen around the joint area. I could barely move it. NT quickly took me to the

In addition to training, I work with my hands a lot. Over the following months my thumb would was often sore from work/training, but I had managed to protect it from additional injury.
Fast forward to now- I have not worked or trained for a month (my family was forced to isolate pretty early) and my thumb does not seem to be healing at all. Before and after isolation, I spend hours a day drawing, so I am always aware of the lingering pain.
Will my thumb ever heal on its own? I have no plans to seek professional medical attention soon, but is there anything a doctor could do anyway?
Thanks in advance.
Here is the segment about it in his post game interview:

Goes on to say his thumb popped out and he popped it back in and was figuring it out on the fly as he couldnt pass or grip the ball after he had it wrapped up late in the 1st half
Crazy toughness and grit to still go out there and sacrifice his body play after play, playing like his usual self, with no excuses. He was still taking charges, blowing up plays with his hands after a questionable hand injury
Was at work and managed to dislocate my right thumb on the proximal joint. I panicked immediately upon seeing the horror that was my lower thumb bone slide over the related metacarpal, and jerked the thumb back into place with a wet schlorping pop and nearly passed out as the pain hit me. I returned to work and finished my shift. After I got off I got inspected by a retired medical professional and was told that the joint is in the proper place. The incident occurred at 1338 CST and as of 1957 CST I am still in a moderate/severe amount of pain, the pain throbs and any attempt to manipulate the thumb with more that about 2.5lbs of pressure in any direction causes me pain at about 8/10. My question is: how long until my thumb quits hurting this badly? Is there a general understanding of how long dislocated joints bother patients?
TL;DR
I dislocated my thumb and it hurts like a screeching mother fucker, how long until it stops and I can use that hand like a normal person?
