A list of puns related to "Delphian"
I spent one summer in Sheridan Oregon at the Delphian school and I guess I am looking to connect with others who went there. If my math is right I was there around 1991 or 1992. I learned study tech but was not exposed to Scientology in general. We went white water rafting, we had high tea at the empress hotel in Vancouver Canada, among other field trips. I did not go back for the regular school year because we couldn't afford it so I was just there for one summer session.
Yes, Scientology has their own Hogwarts of sorts. I went there in the mid 90's. I first attended a summer program and left New Jersey for Oregon on July 3rd 1994.
I don't know if there's anyone else on this board who has had a very screwed up life since attending the school but i'd love to chat with you. Im writing this as a push from my psychological team to try and talk this stuff out. My hands are shaking while i'm typing.
Let me make one thing clear. I am NOT blaming everything bad in my life on the school. I AM airing out everything that happened to me from the time I got on the plane to the time I left for good just about a year later. There were many other factors in my life that led to my current psychiatric state which is severely depressed with multiple suicide attempts. My father had a drug problem and there was severe negligence in my childhood. I experienced my first bout with mental illness in 1998, two years after I had left the school.
My father became a scientologist after hearing about the church from a patient of his. He was a dentist in New Jersey who was doing very well for himself. I suppose the patient also told him there was a school where you could send your children. A boarding school in Sheridan, Oregon. The school sat atop a hill and was a former monastery. I remember him asking me if I wanted to try it for the summer. The vision I had of a boarding school was definitely not what I experienced. I thought it would be an escape from my already chaotic childhood. I imagined a place where I could start over, the kids wouldn't know me, nobody would make fun of me. I could be anyone I wanted.
I decided to go. I got on a plane from Newark, NJ to Portland Oregon. That morning I was so nervous i threw up the airport eggs in the bathroom of the plane during takeoff and the flight attendants were banging on the door telling me I had to get back to my seat. I was truly alone for the first time in my life on a plane headed thousands of miles away. I crossed over in Denver and when I got to Portland a man with other children and a van were there to pick me up. I remember trying to talk to the other kids about their experiences there. None of them talked very much and seemed to not understand the way I talked to them or the things I spoke about. They had all been going to the school for numerous summer programs or for the full year.
When I arrived at the school I put my bags in a room that used to be a Chris
... keep reading on reddit β‘Is the Delphian School still run by Scientologists? I don't know a thing about scientology, but I found this school and I'm really interested. I really wanted to go, until I found out about it's history. I'm really disappointed, if that's the case.
Omg I am so glad I found this place!
I went to a boarding school in Oregon called the delphian acadamy and I had an experience there long long ago that has always stayed with me, almost hauntingly.
The school I went to is a boarding school, so you live on the school grounds. I won't go into to much detail about my experiences there because I could write a small book about it, but one experience I had has always haunted me and I've never been able to find an answer online as to what I witnessed.
Let me give you a little background about this school 1st. It's an old Jesuit monastery (at least that's what my mom told me back when I first saw the school.) Its pretty huge and has dorms for boys and girls and in the center of the school there is a huge old church. The school is built around the cathedral gothic styled church and the church itsself has beautiful stain glass windows that are massive. A couple of the glass window panes are not painted though, which I'll talk about in a sec. On the south side of the church there is a dorm hall that runs the length of the church and has windows in each dorm room that face the church. The dorm rooms and windows are higher then the church windows and when sitting next to one of these windows if you are In the right dorm room you can see down through the stain glass windows through some of these unpainted panes of glass. So now that you have a picture in your mind this is what has always bothered me, and I hope someone has an answer to what I saw.
I was placed in this dorm hall when I was 11 and all the boys in this dorm where my age and younger. We had very strict bed times and lights out times and if you broke these rules you where in very big trouble. Well over the course of a few months I noticed that on occasion the pt (personal teacher) responsible for our dorm would go into the dorm rooms that faced the church and close the blinds and tell the kids in those rooms to not touch their blinds or windows and to goto bed and to not open their windows for any reason at night. But they didn't always do this, in fact 99% of the time they didn't care if our windows where open, or our blinds so it stuck out to me when they put our dorm on lock down.
I asked a friend of mine that was in a room that faced the church if he had ever opened the blinds or his window when they would lock down our dorm and he emphatically said "no no no". So I told him and his roomate that the next time they did this, that I wanted his roomma

> Now nature has distinguished between the female and the slave. For she is not niggardly, like the smith who fashions the Delphian knife for many uses; she makes each thing for a single use, and every instrument is best made when intended for one and not for many uses.
What's the Delphian knife?
Thanks.
A cluster of influential Poleis in Central Hellas formed a League of City-States called the Olypiam-Delphian League. The name was to show the two city-states that founded the League.
Olympia and Delphi are two supremely sacred sites in Hellas. Delphi houses the oracle, and the entire purpose of its citizens is to protect and obey the oracle at Delphi. Olympia is the site of the titanic battle between Hellenes and Dorians. Olympiaβs citizens did not build their city on the sacred ground where Hellenes spilt their blood for their homeland. It is here where the Olympic Games are held, a series of athletic competitions in which all of Hellas is invited to attend. The athlete seek to honor their ancestors.
Olympia also houses the most powerful family in Hellas, the House of Atreus. The names of their ancestors, Agamemnon, Menelaus, still permeate Hellenic Culture today. While on the political side of things, the Olympian-Delphian League takes a back seat to the Peloponnesians, the Confederation, and Epirus, they are considered the most sacred and important of the Hellenic alliances. Retribution comes to whoever makes war upon this league from the rest of Hellas up into Amphipolis and as far as Rhodes. Olympians and Delphiansβ official diplomatic ties are officially neutral, as they pledge to take no side in Hellenic conflicts. This allows for these cities to be a neutral negotiating ground for all Hellenic internal issues, should they arise.
While officially neutral, there are quite a few Poleis that do have foreign relations with other Leagues and Confederations, as well as ties overseas. Elis is a major polis, as is Calydon and Patrae.
My 5 Questions:
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
Buenosdillas
Theyβre on standbi
Pilot on me!!
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
