My dad's Pfizer jabs & resulting deep vein thrombosis

Both my folks are in their late 70's and therefore signed up for the vaccine as soon as it was available. Although I am waiting on more data before I consider it for myself, I supported my folks getting the shot(s) as they are certainly at risk.

My dad is a retired M.D. (ENT), type II diabetic, suffers from gout, glaucoma, overweight (probably meets the medical definition of obese), some arterial blockages especially to the kidneys, and takes high blood pressure medication so not exactly the picture of good health but still gets around and is active outside in the summer or in warmer climes when he does the winter snowbird thing.

In retrospect he also thinks he *may* have possibly gotten the coronavirus in January 2020 but is not sure. Was on a flight and next to someone coughing/hacking really bad. Days later he started coughing, had congestion in the lungs, and could actually hear wheezing coming from his lungs. Had mentioned he had never had wheezing in the lungs before. Because he had part of a previous winter trip ruined with a gout attack stranding him in bed for nearly two weeks, he had started taking some colchicine prophylactically to prevent the travel stress from setting one off. Only in hindsight with recent studies have we discovered colchicine may have positive therapeutic effects limiting severity of covid. Anyway, all of this is circumstantial but I thought it may be important and provide a more complete context.

Both my parents were given the Pfizer jabs. First jab was nothing. My mom did have some soreness in the arm but otherwise neither of my parents had anything to speak of.

After getting their second jab my mom was a bit tired and wiped out the next day but bounced right back. My dad began having severe pain behind the knee, later emanating down his calf. Having a medical background he pretty much knew it was one of two things - either a DVT, or a ruptured bakers cyst. After several days he was convinced it was a DVT because of the lack of any discoloration or other signs of a ruptured bakers cyst. I don't know if any of you have doctors/retired MDs in the family but my dad doesn't go to doctors for anything unless forced to by my mom, if there's nothing that can really be done about the situation anyway. He just laid up on the sofa for the next week or so, elevated the leg, did the circulation exercises and hoped for the best, telling us "well if you find me dead here, just means the clot dislodged and stopped my heart" b

My labs from labwork I did even came back mostly good. My vitamin D is way too low. And my "good cholesterol" levels could be better. And i have a utilized. But my all else was fine . But even though I have had all these tests ran , I still think I am gonna get a blood clot because my legs feel funny and my feet feel weird. Wtf? I need to check into a mental hospital lol.

Anyone have experience with Fragmin for treating deep vein thrombosis during pregnancy?

Hi there, Last night, at 20 weeks pregnant, I ended up in A&E for 6 hours with symptoms for DVT and they’ve decided to put me on a course on injectable Fragmin (dalteparin sodium). They did a blood test which would suggest DVT but they need a scan to confirm it and the earliest they could book me in is for Friday. I found the whole thing quite traumatic as the doctor presented my options to me as β€œif you do have a clot and leave it untreated it could kill you, but the risk to your baby with these injections is increased bleeding, make of that what you will” I really couldn’t pin him down on the risks this might present to my baby (and midwifery triage was closed as this was in the early hours of the morning) so I guess I’m just looking for comfort from anyone who’s been in this position and had similar treatmentπŸ’™

Question I have about my dvt (Deep vein thrombosis)

So i recently got diagnosed with a dvt in my left leg and got prescribed to be on elequis for 3 months and a question popped in my head. So if everything goes according to plan and it eventually goes away completely in 3 months, would it effect my life after those three months. To elaborate would I have to keep taking any medication? Can I go back to a normal life without wearing a compression sock? Can I drink or smoke (I enjoy cigars)? Would I have to take any certain medication to prevent it happening again?

Deep Vein Thrombosis with possible Lung Embolism and Heart Issues? 28M

Age: 28

Sex: Male

Height: 181 cm

Weight: 78.0 kg

Race: Caucasian

Main complain: Strong shooting sharp pain in both legs, arms, hip, chest and head

Duration of complaint: ~3 weeks

Suspicion: Deep vein thrombosis, left leg D-Dimer test negative

Risk factors: Sitting for 12-16 hours per day with few breaks, recent Gardasil/HPV vaccine, little exercise, not the best diet, mom has had thrombosis, dad had some heart complications, no blood clotting disorders in family

Location: Western Europe, pain mainly in left leg

Any existing relevant medical issues: Allergic asthma, Depression, Anxiety, Atopic dermatitis

Current medications: Bupropion, Mirtazapine, Desloratadine, Salbutamol, recently Gardasil HPV vaccine

The pain symptom I am feeling right now is PAIN:

For the past week I started having pain, mainly in my left leg but it spread to the right leg, both arms, the hip and into the head. The pain is intermittent, anywhere from 1-6 on the pain scale, sharp or dull, sometimes goes away completely and suddenly starts up again, sometimes stays around aching for 20 minutes. Sometimes when the pain shoots into the leg I'm instantly nauseous and dizzy, like the room is spinning. I can feel my pulse throbbing in my thigh and knee, but the pain is both in my left calf and left leg, calf and thigh. It also radiates into the feet, scale 3-6 I can often feel what I think are muscle contractions, like something in my leg is pulling or cramping or somehow moving around in there, but it doesn't respond to magnesium supplementation.

A blood test for magnesium also shows that I am on the upper end of normal levels. For the past day I've also had a strong headache coming and going, 4-7 on a scale. I also do have some breathing issues that don't respond to the salbutamol. The breathing trouble started at the beginning of December very suddenly and responded some what well to Desloratadine (allergy probably) but it still bothers me more than usual. I also sometimes have chest pain, especially when breathing in deeply.

Some sitting positions. like bending the left knee, can trigger a dull pain in my upper thigh, left most outer side. It doesn't feel like an injury or your regular delayed onset muscle soreness at all.

Blood oxygen always above 96%, heart rate from 80 bpm - 130 bpm (sometimes jumping up in an instant, really uncomfortable and scary), blood pressure ~130/85 (also moving around quite a lot).

I've been to an internist, he said that my

Deep Vein thrombosis

M21, 1,73m, 70kg, normal to active lifestyle. Normal healthy diet. No medical conditions. Daily kratom user and occasional drug user (nothing too heavy, mainly MDMA, psychedelics, ketamine or Benzo's. About twice a month)

I,m having bad pain in my upper left calf ( left under my knee). And it feels a bit sensitive to touch. The pain is a cramp like pain. Should i be worried about DVT. And if further symptoms manifest should i go to the ER or wait till tomorrow and go to a normal doctor. Im Very paranoid about stuff like this and think it's probably nothing but wanted to make sure. It's currently evening would it be okay to sleep of should i wait to make sure it's not DVT. Also sorry if my English isn't perfect, it's not my first language

YSK Estrogen birth control can cause pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis, no matter the age, and you should know the symptoms if you are on estrogen (birth control or not).

https://www.ebmconsult.com/articles/oral-contraceptive-clotting-factors-thrombosis-dvt-pe

Pulmonary embolisms can be fatal if left untreated, and while it is uncommon, it is not impossible for someone of any age to get a blood clot on estrogen. If you are on estrogen for birth control or other reasons you need to be aware of the risk of clotting. Many OBGYNs won't talk about this risk if you are young because it is so uncommon, and if you go to a GP with certain symptoms they likely wont test for a blood clot if you are under a certain age. However if you have the symptoms of a blood clot you need to get tested right away, do not be afraid to go to the emergency room because this could mean life or death. If your family has any history of clotting disorders, DO NOT take estrogen birth control. Ask your family, be absolutely sure, because a blood clot is not worth risking.

A personal experience: I was 19 when I had a pulmonary embolism. I had been on estrogen birth control for 10 months, not even a full year. I had gone to the doctor a few days before for some mild shoulder/back pain, I didn't have trouble breathing, it was just painful. It was diagnosed as just a muscle spasm since I had been moving heavy boxes all day that day and the day before. A few days later I was with friends watching tv late at night, later than I normally stay up. I noticed I couldnt seem to get comfortable, I had this pain again where i had the 'muscle spasm'. It got slowly worse and worse. The pain got more intense, I was pacing and struggling to breath. I had to make the choice with each breath, do I breath and deal with the sharp pains or hold my breath to get some reprieve but then scream as i gasp for air after. I had my friends drive me home, I was in denial that it was serious and insisted I just needed to take the muscle spasm medication. I got home, tears streaming down my face in pain, and my mom, thankfully, told me this was very likely serious. We went to the emergency room. THE PAIN STOPPED in the lobby, I told my mom and I thought to myelf "This is fine, its fine now, I can just go home" but my mom encouraged me to stay. They did the tests and it turns out I had not one, but two clots in my lungs. I had none in my legs, which is where they usually start. They told me at the ER that if I had gone to sleep I likely would have died. The pain stopping was the clot stopping in my lungs, it would have caused permanent lung damage because the blood flow was stopped. The

Looking for advice for going back to training after deep vein thrombosis (24/f)

Hi,

I was recently diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis. The doctors are not sure yet about the cause of it.

I asked my doctor about going back to running and he said that there is no clear guideline, to just go when I feel ready.

I am currently on Xalrelto (blood thinners). However, I am just not sure when to start again. I used to run 25-30 miles a week.

I would like to hear from fellow runners who lived or know someone who had the same experience. How was the recovery? When did you start running again?

Thanks!
