I really like it
First thing I'm saying here: I am not saying Mick makes bad music, his stuff is kickass. Rip & Tear, BFG Division, Damnation, Meathook, Super Gore Nest, TOTTFIY, BFG10K, you name it. Even going beyond Doom, his work on games like Killer Instinct Seasons 1 & 2 are some of his best. Back to Doom, the thing I never really enjoyed about his soundtracks are the electric and techno-industrial stuff he makes. I think they're fine, but I just am a bit disappointed how Mars Core has some bleeps and bloops at the start, then for 2 arenas you get BFG10K riffin' in your ears, and then for the rest of the level it's back to beeps. I have some exceptions to this mentality of mine, Mastermind goes hard, so does Harbringer. But I personally just liked guitars over electricity.
But then we get to TAG1&2, hooooo boy TAG1&2.
There is not a single bad theme in TAG1&2. UAC Atlantica, Blood Swamps, The Holt, Samur Maykr, World Spear, Reclaimed Earth, Immora, and Davoth are some of the greatest creations mankind has produced. I know The Holt and Samur Maykr may have me sounding like a hypocrite here, but bare with me for a sec. Those tracks have something the techno tracks from Mick didn't: riffs. Just going to town on the guitar. And speaking of guitars, I know we all like to meme with Mick synthesizing a lawnmower and chainsaw and all that, but I prefer a pure guitar. Mick's music for Killer Instinct had kickass riffs as well, take a listen to Warlord, Type-03, Polemos, Inferno, Village of Whispers, Herald of Gargos, I'm probably forgetting some since I haven't played KI in so long, but you get the point. Even in tracks like Type-03, there's still that distinct, deep, heavy guitar sound.
I know we all made fun of that one guy who commented on an early upload of TOTTFIY who said "This ain't music, it's noise", but maybe he had a bit of a point. Also, again, Mick still made some killer songs, I am just stating my preferential opinion. Anywho, slay on, papa johns.
