A list of puns related to "County of Flanders"
I just wanted to share this book with you all since I didn't find anything about it on the sub when searching. It's not only an enjoyable read/listen, it's changed how I look at the things I own and the way I accumulate them.
>In her late twenties, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happyβonly keeping her from meeting her goalsβshe decided to set herself a challenge:Β she would not shop for an entire year.
>
>The Year of LessΒ documents Caitβs life from July 2014 to June 2015, during which time she bought only consumables: groceries, toiletries, gas for her car. Along the way, she challenged herself to consume less of many other things besides shopping. She decluttered her apartment and got rid of 70 percent of her belongings; learned how to fix things rather than throw them away; researched the zero waste movement; and completed a television ban. At every stage, she learned that the less she consumed, the more fulfilled she felt.
>
>What started as a simple challenge quickly became a lifeline, however, as Cait found herself in a number of situations that turned her life upside down. In the face of hardship, she realized why she had always turned to shopping, alcohol and foodβand what it had cost her, for so many years. By not being able to reach for any of her usual vices, Cait changed habits sheβd spent years perfecting and discovered what truly mattered to her.
Itβs not a long book, but I still tore through it faster than I normally would. Flandersβs relatable tone and experiences frequently had me exclaiming βyes!β out loud or muttering to myself in agreement. And I still took away quite a bit from this book: most notably, a desire to kick up my own simple living/minimalism journey up a notch and attempt my own βshopping ban.β She gives some tips at the end of the book on how to start your own.
(Disclaimer: I'm not related to or in any way affiliated with the author or publishing house. Just really enjoyed this book!)
The ACW2 would be a tragic event that would make the first one look like a picnic, and in the face of this, some really sad remembrance songs would be made. What do you guys think that might be in title, subject, and general structure? (Iβm not a song writer or poet)
I'm interested what the opinion of this sub is on the matter.
Personally I think I wouldn't mind because I'm waiting for a more unified European State. Nevertheless I'm surprised that there are quite a lot of parties and persons who advocate for this.

This is referring the WWI battle GALLIPOLI if that wasn't clear.
Watching the movie Darkest Hour, and Winston Churchill is blamed for the Gallipoli disaster, to which he responds "Our troops were chewing barb wire in Flanders and I saw it. Opening a seperate front, outflanking the Turks was a serious military idea that could have damn well worked if the Admirals of the First Sea Lord didn't dither away our element of surprise!" Is that an accurate assessment? Debatable?
Also if someone could clarify Churchill involvement and culpability in Gallipoli because he mentions that no one trusts him since that campaign. Has he been redeemed at all while looking at it from what we know today?
Hey- I read the Flemish press every day and I see many references to the word "allochtoon", which seems to me to mean "from elsewhere" or in the case of Flanders possibly "not ethnically Flemish". I see there's a Wiki entry which focuses on the Dutch origins of the word.
Given that I'm British, I presume that I would be considered allochtoon in Flanders? Is that right?
And therefore that all Walloons would also in principle be considered allochtonen?
What I'm getting at is: is allochtoon commonly used to mean 'non-Flemish' or is this in fact a code word for non-Christian immigrant, or even Muslim immigrant?
Genuinely curious, thanks
