Hi all,
What measures can one use to determine if a company makes an attractive takeover target? ULTI's PEG ratio is 3.58 which seems very high, and both SABA and CSOD have negative earnings at this point. So I wonder what measures to use, or if trying to guess takeover potential is pure speculation (gambling/guessing).
After IBM announced it's takeover of Kenexa today... from wallstcheatsheet.com (which may or may not be a reputable source):
Shares of Cornerstone OnDemand, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSOD) take off, subsequent to news of the IBM-Kenexa acquisition that raised new hopes that the former will be purchased by a bigger enterprise software name. Joining Cornerstone in the mini-rally are peers Saba Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:SABA) and Ultimate Software Group. Inc. (NASDAQ:ULTI).
Full disclosure: I own shares of Cornerstone.
Hello John,
I think we were both surprised at who was on the other end of the call a few days back. I believe it is very sad that the eldersβ decision to mark a person as spiritually dead according to rejection of doctrine devised by men, is a divisive point, dictating whether JWs can speak to another who has left the organization. ( Matt 15:9;Eph 4:14; Heb 13:9; 2 John 1:9) I donβt know if you are aware that I was disfellowshipped, not because I left God or Jesus Christ, or because I had sinned; but for rejecting the doctrine of men β 1914 is one of them - and I rejected an earthly organization as the way to salvation. (Acts 4:12; John 16:2,3; Heb 13:13; Rev 6:9-11; 11:1-3,7;13:15; 12:11)
Although, in a sense, I did sin for which I have asked for forgiveness. I revered a man-made organization β an idol and rival against God Himself. (Deut 4:23; Exod 20:1-5; 23:13; Isa 40:25; Rom 1:21-25; Acts 17:24,25, 29,30; Rev 13:1,2,4) I have learned since then, that the true βorganizationβ of God is spiritual, and built on the Body of His Son, with anointed βliving stonesβ. (John 2:19-22; Matt 16:18; John 4:21-24; 1 Pet 2:4-10; 1 Cor 3:16; Rev 5:9,10) Anything else, is a counterfeit.
I have been told by a JW that in the 70βs/80βs, the leadership wanted to drop the doctrine of 1914, but they felt it would βshake the faithβ of JWs in the organization. I was rather appalled at hearing this. Your leaders are fully aware that 1914 is a lie, yet today they disfellowship those who reject this lie, that they must continue to promote. Is this type of behavior for a servant of Christ, considered a righteous act? Should any wrong teachings be hidden from the members, just to save numbers, just to save the face of the organization, of an idol? (Jer 23:16; Matt 23:25-26; Luke 8:17)
Godβs word tells us that Jesus began ruling over his anointed Christian congregation in the first century, when he sat down at the right hand of God. (Acts 7:55; 2:33; Luke 22:69; Heb 2:8; 8:1,2; Rev 3:21; Ps 110:1,2; 1 Cor 15:25) In fact the βHappinessβ book, chapter 16, paragraph 13 agrees with this; yes, a little known fact that is overshadowed by a great big lie, that Jesus did not begin ruling until 1914. Each faithful anointed one must conquer Satan during their lifetime, as their fleshly life follows in the footsteps of Christ. Those that fail, those that reject Christβs teachings, become the enemies put at the feet of Christ. (Luke 22:31; 1 Thess 3:3,4; 2 Tim 4:5; Rev 12:10,11; 1 Co

The mood around the Moda Center had been anxious as the investigation wore on, and the teamβs play certainly hadnβt helped...Then on Friday morning, the Trail Blazers fired Olshey, ending a tenure that was equal parts successful and strained.
> Dozens of coaches, front office members and team staffers were interviewed as part of the probe β Blazers players were given an opportunity to speak with investigators but all of them declined. The firm concluded Olshey often confronted staffers and cursed toward them, sources said. According to individuals with knowledge of the probe, Olshey allegedly made an inappropriate comment toward a female staff member, which was cited during the investigation.
> A Blazers spokesperson told The Athletic: βOut of consideration for the privacy of the people impacted by this investigation, we donβt have any additional comment at this time.β
> Olshey earned a reputation for his temper during his 10 seasons in Portland, often privately disparaging co-workers. Staffers described Olshey as abrasive and controlling. Olshey had two more years on his contract worth upwards of $20 million total. One source said the Blazers believe they had cause to fire Olshey, which voided his contract. Olshey may challenge that stance.
> The hope within the organization is that Olsheyβs exit acts as a kind of reset. Cronin is overseeing the front office now, and sources said he will be a legitimate candidate for the permanent job. In the interim, Cronin will have autonomy for moves that benefit the organization moving forward.
> The culture under Olsheyβs leadership deteriorated over the past couple of seasons. Sources said Blazers ownership also received several complaints about a lack of diversity in the front office. In April, the team hired former WNBA star Asjha Jones to the front office as well as former Oregon Ducks basketball star Edniesha Curry as the first female assistant coach in franchise history in July. But it was not lost on those within the Blazers organization, including Lillard, how re

Southern Africa's trade integration process has its cornerstone laid in the year 1889 with the creation of what is today known as the Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU), considered the first institution of its kind. Known in its incipient form as the Customs Union Convention (CUC), the treaty is forged between the British colony of the Cape of Good Hope and the Free State of Orange. The Union later expanded to encompass the territories of Bechuanaland and Basutoland (currently Botswana and Lesotho, respectively) in 1893, eSwatini in 1903, and, finally, the South African Union in 1910 (NGALAWA, 2014). After a treaty involving only the United Kingdom and what is now South Africa, the CUC is remodeled (KIRK and STERN, 2005; NGWALA, 2014), with new mechanisms being integrated into it, such as a Common External Tariff for all imported goods, free flow of manufactured goods within the bloc itself, and a Revenue-Sharing Formula (RSF), for the distribution of revenue accumulated by the Union through a Common Revenue Pool (CRP) (SOUTHERN AFRICAN CUSTOMS UNION, 2013).
During the next 5 decades, the three colonies of Botswana, Lesotho, and eSwatini, then Swaziland, (known as BLS, and later BLNS with the addition of Namibia to the bloc) had their economies characterized by a deep vulnerability and dependence on the institution as a source of income. However, compared to its contribution to the CRP, the revenue returned to the BLS was negligible, which resulted in a growing disparity between the trio and South Africa (GIBB, 2006). In 1969, after Botswana and Lesotho gained independence in 1966 and Swaziland in 1968, they engaged in a new phase of SACU treaty negotiations with South Africa (NGALAWA, 2014). This new treaty, for the first time, established formal institutions designed to effectively administer the Customs Union. However, these are quickly co-opted by South Africa, which will maintain an undisputed dominance over them until the 1990s (GIBB, 2006). Among the highly rural economies of the BLS, South Africa, being the most industrialized and developed member, believed it was essential to retain control over tariff decisions (KIRK and STERN, 2005). In practice, despite the existence of a Customs Union Commission, composed of representatives of member countries, the bloc's trade policy was directly dictated by the South African Board of Tariffs and Trade (GIBB, 2006).

Tl;dr: boss was bothering me on vacation to do their job; meanwhile HR was in the process of firing said boss. I find out boss is fired as I pull into my vacation destination.
Former boss was big on texting people while on vacation.
Well, I had asked off and gotten approval for it a couple of months out. I worked a half day and was thankful to be out of there. My former boss had gone out of town on a trip (paid for by the company). While former boss was gone, several employees decided it was a good time to go to HR and expose former boss' abusive and allegedly criminal behavior.
HR was concerned.
Before I left (and before I knew former boss was fixing to be fired), I sent former boss some items that they needed to handle. Normally, former boss would demand that I do their work for them, but I was leaving and they needed attention. I chose not to remind former boss that they had approved me for time off-I just sent the items and left around 11:30AM.
Two hours later, on the road and halfway to destination, former boss calls me.
I ignore it.
Former boss calls again.
I ignore it.
Former boss texts, "affablemisanthropist, I called the office and they said that you left this morning and they haven't seen you since. Where are you? why are you not responding to my texts or calls?"
I ignore it.
My co-worker buddy is texting me the whole time, watching the front desk field former boss' frantic calls. Around 3:00 my co-worker buddy tells me that HR wants to talk to all of us on the phone. Former boss will not be joining us. According to my e-mail, it was around this time former boss sent me their last e-mail demanding that I do their job for them.
Around 4:30, Hr informs us that former boss (who-again-is out of town and doesn't know half their staff went to HR the minute they were gone) is on leave pending an investigation into their behavior and actions. Former boss has been told that they are to have absolutely no contact with any staff member for any reason.
I am told this as I am pulling into my destination to start my long weekend vacation. Never did respond to any of those texts or e-mails.
Get rekt.
So after we traded Von, I was a little lost as a fan for the first time. The ownership is a mess, the coaching staff is a mess, and we just traded our cornerstone player.
But that win verses the Chargers showed me we have players to take on the mantle Von left behind. Surtain, Williams, and our WR trio are going to be here for a while and they feel like the heartbeat of the team.
How can it be anything but Cornerstone? The lyrics, vibe, the music video, jameh cook on the guitar. It also captures the bands characteristics so well. Honestly it's a special special song for me, rarely I can listen to a song over and over again for years.
Because they charge a lot.

I hate this. Why do we do this in New Zealand? WHY.
This right here is more money than I would spend clothing this child for an entire year (and that would include getting her 'cool' things like dinosaur jammies and character outfits).
Last year as a noob parent to the primary school scene, I had no idea how much uniform to buy and how much it would end up costing.
Literally saw a social media post by some parents on the Shore who said they buy 5 pieces of each (one for each day. Seems reasonable - the kids are filthy enough as it is now that their clothes are rarely clean enough to wear again another day without a wash). Saw another who said they buy 6! One for each day and a spare in case they don't get to the washing on the weekend - which, is brilliant and I am jealous. But also literally cannot afford that.
And neither can any of the families around me in South Auckland. It's madness.
Last year I settled on buying 3 shirts, 3 shorts, 1 jumper, 2 hats ( I have a permanent weekly alarm set to remind me to wash uniform every Wednesday night so I have enough for the week). Buying those 'not-enough-for-a-full-week' items still costed hundreds of dollars. When I was paying for the uniforms, the checkout clerk at The Warehouse was lovely and sympathetically said "oof. Three kids at primary at the same time? That's expensive" and I was so stunned I took too long to respond. I realised that for this area, most kids have one full uniform (one shirt and one shorts/culottes), and there are still a few who are known to share uniform pieces and alternate which days they attend school (no uniform = no school).
I should add that I won't be buying this cart. I will have to get two of the polo shirts (that'll put me back $50), and I'm trying to find more secondhand culottes (Miss Almost 5 is prone to accidents and will need spare with her at school for sure, two will not be enough for 5 days of school a week). But one pair of girls size 4 culottes is $47. The fleece jumper is $47. That is so much more money than I ever spend on a single item of clothes to fit a four year old.
Why not, and hear me out here, we just let children wear their own clothes?!
Edit: just because there are a lot of comments: Yes I try to get second hand! And so do the 500+ other childrenβs parents at this school! Where we are in South Auckland demand for

I already knew Do I Wanna Know?, R U Mine and I Bet You Look Good since I was very little. Then, earlier this year, my father told me to hear WPSIATWIN. I pushed it off for a bit, but when I heard it, my life changed. I found it so amazing and it almost instantly became my favorite album of all time. After that I heard FWN and AM, both amazed me even more.
Then I gave a chance to TBH+C, which at first I didn't like, but after a few more listens it kinda grew on me. SIAS was also very good and light, but it took me a while to really discover its best songs.
Humbug was last and I've heard it multiple times now, but I can only seem to like Crying Lightning, Cornerstone and Pretty Visitors, the songs are just not for me. Still good, but not that amazing as the other albums. I've also listened to all B-sides and a few that stand out for me are Leave Before The Lights Come On and Who The F Are Arctic Monkeys.
That's my experience. I just wanted to share it with this subreddit, which seems very nice.

My father asked for a paternity test last year. Claims my mom cheated on him. This all happened 2020, my father and I had been no contact for a while after he accused me of stealing his tax info (on which he lied on and said I lived with him despite me living and having my mother pay for most of my expenses when I was 17 (at the time) I needed this for my FAFSA, but that is another complicated story, but, it was during this time when things started to get out of control. This was in February of 2020, my senior year of high school. My sibling, mom, and I were in the living room, sibling was arguing with my father over text about the phone bill he was supposed to pay. (my father had gotten both of my siblings brand new iphones to spite me after we had a different argument, bill was pricey) He kept bickering with my sibling, my mom grew tired of it and decided to text him.
He later pulls out a million of excuses. He says he has some big secret heβs hiding but will reveal it when the time is right, heβs always had a habit of saying that. She laughed it off and told him heβll never change and that heβll always be unhappy and bitter. I had joked and told my mom βJust watch him ask for a paternity test like the lowlife he is.β It was almost as if he heard me because he texts back and says one of us is not his. Of course, this enrages my mother because my dad was the one who cheated multiple times throughout their 17 year relationship, the last time being the 4th and the reason they separated and the reason I forced her to kick him out of the house. Also, my dad is the only man my mom has ever been with.
Anyway, he insists one of us isnβt his and demands for a paternity test. We later found out this was just another scheme to avoid paying child support. His mom and aunt came to his defense, saying he had every right while his sister came to our defense.
He would later drunk dial my then 12 year old sibling and say that it wasnβt him, but the child support offices that forced him to ask for a paternity test because it was protocol for Every Single case despite me explaining how thatβs not how that works and the logistics behind it. The case worker also sent paper work of him specifically asking for it.

compensation: $15/hr + bonus for dates lined up
Hi,
I am looking to hire someone to manage my online dating profiles. My profiles are pretty good but since I am working a demanding (65+ hour/week) job, I rarely have the time to swipe and initiate stimulating conversations.
This role would involve having access to my main dating profiles, swiping on matches that I would be interested in, and initiating a conversation that would eventually lead to a number/date.
You will average 5 to 8 hours per week paid at $15/hr. One month's commitment is required from both sides. For every phone number/date you line up, I will add a bonus.
The ideal candidate will have strong general and creative writing skills and can dedicate about an hour every day to this job. When responding, please describe why you would be a good fit for this job. (Resume preferred.)
Disclaimer: If you are selected, I will need to run a background check on you and will have you sign an NDA and privacy contract.
Please respond if you are interested!

This could be a long read. Kindly bear with me.
I write this primarily in response to the TechSpot article from yesterday (r/technology mods told me they only allow βmainstream news articles with editorial oversight and fact-checkingβ so I'm sharing this here).
But Iβd also like to take this opportunity to write about Bitcoin more broadly as someone who has been following it for more than a decade and Iβll try to do so without complicating the conversation for anyone unfamiliar with Bitcoin.
The TechSpot article cites a non-peer-reviewed National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working paper from Igor Makarov and Antoinette Schoar.
NBER claims to be non-partisan but it is a private NPO funded by the likes of Bill Gates foundation.
The chairman of NBER, Karen Horn, is a former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and Head of International Private Banking for Bankers Trust.
The authors of this working paper, Igor Makarov and Antoinette Schoar are no experts in Bitcoin.
Makarov is employed by Financial Markets Group (FMG), which focuses on policy research into financial markets and works alongside banks and regulators in Europe.
Schoar is a professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management and co-chair of NBER Corporate Finance group, who has previously made it clear that she is no fan of Bitcoin with some pretty misguided takes on it.
Itβs critical to note that the data regarding miners cited in this study is from when mining was largely concentrated in China. This is no longer the case.
The paper claims the authors have βthe ability to trace miners on the blockchain.β The tracking method shown in the paper is based on subjective, unverified βalgorithm to track the distribution of mining rewards from the largest 20 mining pools to the miners that work for them.β
The validity of this conjectural method of tracking was also subjectively verified before all mining operations migrated out of China to many different parts of the world.
