The PBY Catalina, also known as the PBY Canso in Canadian Service was a flying boat manufactured by Consolidated Aircraft, it was one of the most widely used seaplanes throughout World War II.

Pictured is a Consolidated Liberator V Mark IV of RAF 70th squadron that was damaged during a daylight raid on the shipbuilding yards of Monfalcone, Trieste, Italy, in 1945. The aircraft was hit in the fuselage near the flight deck when a bomb form an aircraft above it struck the Liberator.

The Consolidated C-87 'Liberator Express' was a transport version of the B-24 Liberator bomber that was produced in reasonable numbers and saw service with the USAAF, US navy, RAF and RAAF seen here at the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation plant, Fort Worth, Texas October 1942.

Funeral after Freckleton air disaster. Consolidated B-24 Liberator crashed during a test flight into the centre of the village of Freckleton, killing all three crewmen aboard the aircraft and 58 individuals on the ground, including 38 children aged four to six.

Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina Bureau Number 48426 under restoration at the Palm Springs Air Museum. This aircraft was used as a water bomber to fight forest fires, and has been on display in Palm Springs since 2007, but is now undergoing restoration to flying condition.

Yesterday died one of the last WWII RAF airmen, sergeant Tomas Lom at age of 96. Tomas Lom served between 1944-1945 in Czechoslovak 311. Bomber Squadron RAF as radio operator-mechanic in Consolidated B-24 Liberator. Once a bomb exploded inside his aircraft. [963x761]

Consolidated C-109, a fuel transport variant of the B-24 to support B-29 operations in central China. Though 2,000 conversions were ordered, the capture of the Marianas provided a far easier resupply point for the B-29s, and only 218 aircraft were converted. They could carry 2,900 gallons of fuel.

Consolidated XP4Y Corregidor. Though the aircraft had good performance for a maritime patrol aircraft, a shortage of Wright R-3350 engines (which were diverted to the B-29) ensured that only one prototype was ever built, and Consolidated focused on building PBY Catalinas.
