A list of puns related to "Comparison of the Nordic countries"
##Background
Many posts in this subreddit are from potential university exchange students asking which Nordic country they should go to, and we all try to convince them that our country has the best universities as a matter of national pride. This post is an attempt to give an answer to which country has the best universities using an aggregate score of the two major international university ranking lists (QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings) and adjusting for population.
##Results
Country | Population | No. universities in QS Top 916 | Avg. Rank (lower is better) | Score per capita (higher is better) | No. universities in THE Top 980 | Avg. Rank (lower is better) | Score per capita (higher is better) | Combined score (higher is better) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Denmark | 5707251 | 5 | 211.6 | 41.40 | 7 | 245.57 | 49.94 | 91.34 |
Finland | 5488543 | 10 | 343.7 | 53.01 | 9 | 340.66 | 48.13 | 101.14 |
Iceland | 332529 | 0 | - | - | 1 | 225 | 133.65 | 133.65 |
Norway | 5252166 | 4 | 231.5 | 32.89 | 5 | 291.4 | 32.66 | 65.56 |
Sweden | 10004076 | 8 | 180.37 | 44.33 | 11 | 211.72 | 51.93 | 96.26 |
Estonia | 1315635 | 2 | 486 | 31.27 | 2 | 512.5 | 29.66 | 60.94 |
The scores are proportional to universities per average university rank per capita. I.e. in this scoring system it's equally good to have 10 universities with an average rank of 200 and 5 universities with an average rank of 100. The scores are also adjusted for population and they can be seen as a measure of the density of high level universities in a country.
##Conclusions
The combined scores are remarkably similar. It's so close that you can't make any statistically significant conclusion of which country has the better universities. The uncertainty for the top scoring Iceland is especially high as it's only based on a single university that only made one of the lists.
Norway and Estonia are lagging behind the other Nordic countries a bit. Norway's comparatively low score can be at least partly attributed to the fact that they until their 1994 university college reform had lots of local smaller colleges rather than larger university campuses as in the other Nordic countries. Norway can probably be expected to catch up
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello! Iβm from Australia and I will be visiting Iceland in December/January 2019/2020. (So excited!!)
I hope Iβve read the rules correctly and this is ok to post! Please let me know otherwise and Iβll remove.
TL;DR at bottom.
I am allergic to egg. Chicken egg for sure but never tried any other type of birdsβ egg so not sure on that.
I was wondering if someone would be so kind to give me a sentence or two in Icelandic that I could have written out explaining my allergy, that I can try to learn, and keep with me while I travel.
I have been told by a friend who visited recently that there wouldnβt be much egg use due to the anti-chicken weather of Iceland, but I would like to be safe rather than sorry!
Cooked egg wonβt cause me anaphylaxis immediately, but given enough time and exposure I would be in a world of trouble in only a few minutes none the less. (I would have my antihistamines with me always but always better to not need them I think!)
TL;DR - can someone please write something along the lines of: I am allergic to egg. Please let me know if this food has egg as an ingredient. Any amount of egg will make me very ill. Can you please suggest an egg-free meal?
Thank you Internet Friends, have a lovely rest of your day
Some articles are starting to come out in Norway and Sweden reporting that Gamestops employees have been notified that the company will shut down all stores in the Nordics during the next year.
Article in Swedish: https://computersweden.idg.se/2.2683/1.725770/gamestop-lagga-ner-butiker
Article in Norwegian referencing the above article: https://www.nettavisen.no/okonomi/spillkjeden-gamestop-legger-ned-alle-butikker/3423871988.html
Story is developing. Computersweden reached out to GS a couple of days ago, but have not received any reply. GS does not have a PR responsible in the Nordics, so all contact go trough central.
Edit 17:00 CET: Swedish article is saying that swedish employees have confirmed and that they have received an email about it, but the norwegian article states that the employees they have contacted have acted with surprise and abstained from commenting further. So some confussion as to what is happening and if this case is genuine or not. Neither site has been able to reach anyone further up the chain than the store managers.
Everyone has heard of how "happiness is relative" and "ignorance is bliss". I'll just it so suggest a reason why Nordic countries are often ranked as the happiest countries in surveys.
Happiness is relative. A white worshiping hapa will feel happy in Asia as everyone puts him on a pedestal and he feels superior to Asians. He will yet feel sad in the west, as people will treat him in a racist manner and he feels inferior to whites.
The same applies to Nordics. White people are prized by society, and the whitest of them are at the top of the social hierachy. The Nordic population is the whitest and many Nordic people have blond hair and blue eyes.
This is where happiness comes in. They never have to feel "inferior" to anyone or jealous of anyone in terms of race as they are already at the very top! It's similar to Bill Gates. He will never feel inferior to anyone in terms of wealth as he is already the richest person on earth!
Self-hatred leads to misery. You'll look at yourself in the mirror and wish that you looked different yet you can do nothing about it. You'll feel less of a human and always have to worry about being looked down upon by others. Blond, blue-eyed Nordic people have to never feel this way so hence the happiness. They'll never have to go through the trouble of dying their blond as some white worshiping hapas and southern Europeans do to appear whiter as they're already the whitest.
This inferiority complex extends to other aspects in life. Scandinavian countries are often publicised to have the best welfare systems in the world. People from countries with worse welfare systems may hence develop an inferiority complex and think of their countries as worse than Nordic ones. They're more likely to feel unsatisfied about their country as they feel like their country "is not good enough". Again, Nordic people never have these feelings as they are already at the very top.
And of course, ignorance is bliss. White worshiping POCs will think of the world as unfair as they're not born as white. This leads to misery, anger, and jealousy. Even the non white worhiping ones will be aware of racism and feel angry and upset that society is like this.
Nordic people will never suffer from racism. Since they are not affected by it in a negative way, they may be unaware of how severe it is. So even the Nordic SJWs are less likely to feel unhappy because "the world is so unfair" because they aren't even aware of how unfair it is!
There are Nordic pe
