I'm working on a roguelike deckbuilder called Words Can Kill. Although this game uses some Scrabble mechanics, it is not about your vocabulary. It's about your tactical decisions and resource management! You will travel through the fantasy world trying to build the strongest deck from letter tiles and find the perfect gear.
It is designed to be easy to learn and hard to master. The key aspect is future planning: attack now without a bonus from your weapon or wait a turn and spell a longer word, discard a tile or save it for the next turn.

We're proud to show you our first (almost) completed game, Bloxi: The Word Game, releasing on December 17th on Steam and the Beta available still on Itch.io for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
We were inspired by the idea of crossing Tetris with Scrabble
It seemed like such a simple idea at first, which sounded great for our first game. However, it turned out to be so much harder once we started playtesting and trying to make the game fun! Which is probably why it hasn't been done before. :P Maybe at some point I'll write about how iterative the game design process was, because the original simple idea was so broken.

This was really helpful to keep us going and I'm super appreciative they found our game on Itch, this really helped keep us going! More recent version of game and really early version of game (originally called Words with Shapes). You can really see in the really early version players basically just tried to play it like Tetris and it was not fun or interesting.
Team of Friends
All the art and design was done by Matt Wolfe who also made most of the music using AIVA. Our original song was made by Will MacFee. Tim Drzwiecki coded the original version of the game. Amrit Patel has been a beast testing the game, setting up DevOps, and making our workflows so much better. Thomas Phifer came later into the game and has been helping us test the game more and put it through it's paces. I (Diego Saenz) have done whatever else needed to be done but been the primary programmer and game designer.
Next Steps
We're currently working frantically getting a Leaderboard, Achievements, and Cloud Saves for Steam before we launch. If the interest is there, we'll release it for mobile next. We also realize that our friends and family may just have been too nice and the game is still not good enough, in which case we'll move on to something else.

I lost by 9 points. I donโt mind losing but this person thinks they were being magnanimous by letting me use โahโ and โew.โ And they didnโt let me use โbiโ after that because apparently itโs not a word and they were already being generous by letting me play โewโ and โah.โ So they think I lost even when they were being generous towards me.
But the worst part is probably that two other people in the room point blank agreed that bi is not a word. This is a shallow post, but by god, dealing with confidently incorrect people is one of the most frustrating things in the world.
