Part of the National Museums of Scotland collection these are 3 of many leather Roman shoes found at Trimontium in the Scottish Borders. The soil conditions mean they were found in an amazing condition of preservation. These shoes were worn over 1,800 years ago.

What do historians have to say about the destruction of the National Museum of Brazil?

Brazil's most important historical museum was destroyed in a fire today. How does this impact historical study and the historical profession both in Brazil and abroad? Or about the preservation of historical artifacts in the Global South?

I guess it's a very open-ended question; I am just hoping for any insight from professionals or experts who can approach the subject from a more educated point of view. What was lost?

Kalevala deck, VΓ€inΓ€mΓΆinen's sword & VΓ€inΓ€mΓΆinen sotto (canvas print) to be part of the educational collection at the National Museum of Finland.

An exciting news to share:

National Museum of Finland is going to have VΓ€inΓ€mΓΆinen's sword, Kalevala limited edition deck and VΓ€inΓ€mΓΆinen sotto (canvas print) as the part of their educational collection. All of these were created as part of my last Kickstarter project based on Finland's national epic, Kalevala and most of you here who backed that project as well, will recognize the above. It is an honor, and I am glad that I worked on this project. I'd received the email from the curator 3 days ago & had been working to send the items to the Museum.
