Terrence McKenna suggested that humans evolved into our current form by using psychedelic mushrooms. While it sounds like he didn't have thorough evidence for his claim, I think it has real merit. The pressing evolutionary question seems to be, "Why do humans have such large brains compared to other animals?" And I believe that three plausible answers are because we started eating fish, we discovered fire, or we started using mushrooms, and those are not necessarily exclusive.

Fish strike me as a possibility because they have large quantities of EPA and DHA. Anecdotally, when I take large quantities of these supplements (I cut out the middleman with algae), I have incredibly vivid dreams. For the second one, I often hear people talk about discovering fire being a large factor: We gained the ability to break down and digest a much larger variety of foods than we previously could, and this increase in nutrition rapidly improved our fitness. And mushrooms strike me as a likely candidate because it fosters outside-the-box thinking and improves connections between people, and the more creative and social ones were more likely to pass down their genes.

The response I hear to the third point is that an individual expanding his own brain doesn't impact his offspring's brains. However, this seems like an equally valid rebuttal to discovering fire, since an individual consuming more calories and nutrients and improving his own fitness won't pass those benefits on either, at least not directly. Therefore, it seems like we should either include or disregard both claims on the same basis, and I think we often see a different standard applied to them because larger society perceives psychedelics as weird and dangerous, whereas everyone understands that healthy food helps us tremendously.

I went to the woods by my self and did 2.2 grams. I meditated and played instruments by the fire. As the trip started I was asking it questions and I got my answers through nature and it was beautiful. Then it got deeper and I started thinking about my wife and how I wish she was there with me. Then I started thinking about my father and how I know he loves me deep down somewhere but doesn't show it. I cried for a bit and then I started thinking about the fact that he just wants me to beable to support my self (I work at his company). Then it got really deep and it was about what happens when he dies. What will I do l? Will I just sit and cry or will I have to fucking man up. All I could think think about was how terrible it would be if I couldn't support my self. And that can and will happen if I don't man the fuck up. I've been on a very long spiritual journey listening to Alan watts, Terrence McKenna, and other teachers. Doing shrooms and meditating. At the end of the trip I realized what I truly am and that I have the ability to take control of my destiny. I realized that the whole time alan watts is purposely using complex language and droning on and on because he is trying to wake you up and make you realize that you're wasting your fucking time and that you already have the answer you've been searching for. I'm assuming this is what ego death is. I've done 6g before and I wasn't able to get to this point it felt like the whole time I was fighting the trip. This time I was able to let the shrooms do the work and just listen. It'll be a bit until I do shrooms again I just need to straighten my self out first.
