Nothing against this group keep doing what yβall are doing, I just wanted to follow the drag racing cars subreddit. This version just wasnβt what I was looking for.
Was anyone else driving down US-131 southbound this afternoon (Sunday) around 4pm? I witnessed the most bizarre display, and I'm racking my brain trying to come up with an explanation. From about the Rockford exit down to around Comstock Park (West River Drive) exit I witnessed WELL over a dozen incidents of cars & big trucks whipping around traffic so recklessly, they were practically driving people off the road.
Going 80-90 in the right lane, whipping over to the left lane, cutting off drivers left & right (literally), tailgating to an extreme degree. Never seen anything like it in my life. I mean okay, occasionally you'll witness the rare lunatic-on-wheels, endangering other drivers just to get somewhere fast. But this short period today was more close-call collisions & extreme-aggressive driving in 10 minutes than I've ever seen in the previous 10 years combined. It can't be a coincidence. Was there some sort of NASCAR convention up in Cedar Springs today, or maybe an angry-big-truck-driving survivalist meet-up that prompted all these daredevil drivers?
Just imagine, starting off with your stepdads old beat up 9 second car, winning races by graces of precise dial in because your old junk parts just cant compete heads up. Eventually warming up to your local track legend who can't keep his car running for the life of them but is quick off of the light and knows that machine in and out, knows when to dump and when to punch, and wins over the big budget boys. Finally get enough winnings to buy a big block, maybe stick a blower on there because the superchargers are still out of your price range, and traveling to regionals. Then we can start winning some real money, maybe even getting a sponsor sticker, a little one, stick it on the front quarter panel. Maybe get a second car and move from the 1/8th to the 1/4 mile tracks to play a little. Rumors are a new 1000 ft track is opening up soon, do you want to adjust your setting and your car from your comfort zone where you make your bread, or risk it big time for another car in the garage tuned for the 1000 ft track? Now that we are making some real money we can start moving into some bigger divisions, bigger entry fees, bigger pots, bigger wins. That old 9 second car is pushing 6 now, shines like christmas and burnouts that make kids squeal and girls ..well you know.
Then the call up. All alcohol funny cars, top fuel dragsters, heads up green and go on the sponsors dollar. But that is just your weekends, on Thursday nights, you are still in your old reliable big block with the blower, pumping gas and kicking ass, dialing it in because you haven't forgotten who brought you to this dance, and the machine wants to run.
I'm a newbie who just started getting into the NHRA Drag Racing World and I'd like to know a few things regarding Teams, Drivers, Manufacturers, Events and Raceways.
First and foremost, what is the NHRA equivalent of the Indy 500/24 Hours of Le Mans/Monaco Grand Prix? What I mean is, which event is important to be held annually as a tradition toward NHRA Drag Racing? Similar to how we view the Indy 500, the annual Race for Indycar that's been a tradition for a while.
Second, who are some the greatest Teams and Drivers? I've heard a few names like John Force and Connie Kalitta. But what are some of the greatest Teams and Drivers throughout NHRA Drag Racing?
Third and finally, which Auto manufacturers get involved? Who provides the engines?
I've been a Motorsport Fanatic for a year now and would love to introduce myself into the world of NHRA Drag Racing.

Is there a number other than 911 that I can call or text to report drag racing in my neighborhood? Iβm so tired of the loud mufflers and revving engines and itβs so dangerous.
When I was growing up, every Christmas we would go out hunting for a tree. The perfect one just the right size to put up in our living room.
It was always an excursion.
Going out into the countryside, crammed into the snow-covered car in our winter-wear.
My mom and dad, my brother Noel and I. The four of us were an unstoppable team, heading out into the white wilderness to find that one ideal specimen to hack down and drag home with us, so that we could decorate it in tinsel and cover it with ornaments, lights and all the works.
Every year it was our tradition. Until one year it wasnβt anymore.
Dad passed away a couple years back, and with all this pandemic business it doesnβt look like weβll be doing much as a family this Christmas for the first time I can remember.
It was with this feeling of melancholy and neglected nostalgia in mind that I hopped into my car on a whim, and drove out into the snow-covered countryside to find a Christmas tree.
The whole thing was a bit out of the ordinary for me. But I was feeling stir-crazy sitting in my apartment. I had just been quarantined for a week due to an exposure at work and had finally gotten back the negative test results and subsequent βall-clearβ to venture outdoors again. After days of Uber-Eats, watching reruns and old Christmas movies, I could finally leave my house.
I couldnβt remember where the place was that we had gone to as kids, so I just drove around until I found a farm with a sign out front. It took a couple hours, but I liked that lost feeling, that sense of misdirection that none of us experience anymore since we all have GPS and cell phones.
I had turned my phone off and put it in my glove box, vowing not to use it for the trip, instead just wandering until I finally found that sign I was looking for.

Perfect, I thought. Just like the old days.
I pulled into the frozen gravel lot and parked. It was getting a bit late in the day, so the few people in the parking lot were already tying trees to the roofs of their cars or throwing them in the backs of pickup trucks.
βBetter hurry,β said a man in a flannel shirt and overalls as I got out of my car. βGets dark early nowadays. Donβt wanna be stuck out there after the sun goes down. Gets cold quick in these parts.β
I was immediately struck by his intimidating height. Being six foot five myself I donβt often

I am enjoying this game quite a bit. But it reminds me so much of Street Rod/Street Rod 2 from my childhood, and it has me wishing that there was some sort of racing option. What always stood out to me in SR games was that you had to upgrade your car and it was more than just paying for the upgrade and clicking "OK" like in all the other racing games that let you upgrade your car. Just like in CMS you had to go into the engine bay and remove the bolts and get the right parts. The whole point was racing at the Drag strip, or street races for money or pink slips.
I would pay a high premium for a DLC that added a racing element like this into this game! Anyone else?
I know the joke is that Forza Horizon 5 is just FH4: Mexico Edition but boy does the almost complete elimination of drag events from the game while not removing drag perks from a bunch of cars sort of point to areas of the game that were either rushed or just didnβt get the attention they deserved. Iβd love for there to be way more drag races in FH5 but instead weβre just left with piles of useless perks.
