Why didn't the dynasties after the Cheras in Kerala lay claim on sangam literature?

Or atleast translate them as time surpassed , since many key events in such literature happened in the western ghats and the vast malabar coasts? Sangam literatures were translated only much much later from Tamil to Malayalam, leading to a sense of disconnect in kerala's from its own rich heritage.

Medieval Copper Plates of Kerala in Context

Medieval Copper Plates of Kerala in Context

Introduction

The Chera Dynasty and Principalities

It was a common theme of Kerala’s medieval period for the Chera Empire and their vassals to give copper plates of socio-economic and religious rights to foreign merchant magnates, their confederates who came with them, and native Keralites who shared their religion. I cannot stress enough just how important and unique these copper plates are for the reason that they exhibit a level of tolerance generally unknown during the medieval era in other parts of the world. While minorities across the globe faced persecution and ostracism solely on the basis of being of a different religion or ethnic background, Kerala’s Buddhist and later Hindu kingdoms showered their minorities with socio-economic and religious rights and placed them nearly on par with the native nobility of the nation. With this post I wanted to give some history and context behind the various medieval copper plate grants of Kerala.

The Tarisapally or Kollam Syrian Plates

The Tarisapally or Kollam Syrian Plates

In the year 849 C.E. of the 9th century, the Syrian Christian merchant Maruvan Sapor Iso or Sabrisho of Persia arrived to the shores of what would become the bustling port city of Kollam. Not much is known about the background of Sabrisho except for his name and that he was a merchant leader. Upon arrival to Kollam, Sabrisho and the merchants that arrived with him were granted the Tarisapally cheppedu, also called the Kollam Syrian Plates, by Ayyan Addikal Tiruvadikal, King of Venad (currently a vassal of the Chera Dynasty). This copper plate grant gave the migrants and the native Nasrani socio-economic and religious privileges in the society of Kerala. The plates were written in Old Malayalam Vatezhethu, Middle Persian, and Judeo-Persian.

The Tarisapally plates are of course not only important for the Nasrani but hold an important position in the history of Kerala because they act as one of the oldest documents of the economics, society, and politics of Kerala. Furthermore the plates are in fact the oldest re

DAD JOKES ARE NOT DIRTY.

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Thank you,

A Dad.

Cool Indian cultures and histories that could be added to the game

This is in response to u/AddyCod post: https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/l965bq/why_the_indians_civ_in_aoe2_makes_me_cringe_so/

India is a unified country today, but historically it has always been divided into many diverse cultures, to such an extent that having one "Indians" civ is like having just one civ to represent all of Europe. In the year 1400, a quarter of the world's population lived in the Indian subcontinent. Here are some of the major ethnic/cultural groups of India and the empires they created in in India in the years 500 to 1500, and:

The Indians civ are a good representation of the Delhi Sultanate and the early Mughal Empire, which was centred around the north and north west of India and used Camels and gunpowder in battle. These were both Islamic empires.

The Tamils are a southern Indian people, most famous for establishing the Chola Empire and also the Chera and Pandya dynasties. They used elephants extensively in history and were one of the major naval powers in the world during the time period of AoE2. They were also very skilled at metallurgy, inventing Wootz Steel. The Urumi flexible sword also originated in southern India. Chola was a Hindu empire.

The Bengalis are a South Asian people from Bangladesh and north-east India. They establised the Buddhist Pala Empire in the 8th century. The Palas were known for their huge armies of battle elephants. The Bengalis would later form the Islamic Bengal Sultanate, which was known for its artillery and navy, and also a powerful archer-based infantry force known as the Paiks. They would have a very weak cavalry force, as the Bengalis were not known for their horses and had to import them.

The Kannidigaru are mainly from modern day Karnataka state, aswell as other parts of western India. They formed the Rashtrakutra Empire, which was a contemporary and rival of the Pala Empire. The Rashtrakutras were known for their infantry force. Later, the Vijayanagara Empire dominated the region with their powerfu

My son accidentally handed me a dad joke on a platter and it was glorious.

This happened a few years ago when my son was 6ish. When my kids hurt themselves and it doesn’t look serious I always do the β€œwe might have to amputate that bruised hand” shtick with them. I’ve done it enough that they now roll their eyes.

So, my son got hit lightly in the face with a rubber ball. It wasn’t a hard hit and I could tell he was more upset by the shock of it rather than the pain. So I say β€œlooks like we will have to amputate your nose.” To which he replies β€œthen how will I smell?” And I say β€œterrible!”

It was my greatest dad joke ever. I felt like I could retire after that.

Proud dad moment.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.

I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.

When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."

From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"

Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.

Edit: Thanks for all the awards, kind strangers! I'll let my son know y'all enjoyed his joke too!
