The Orange Crush Festival is going to be the Fyre Festival 2.0. Deep dive into the incoming scam.
Hi there! I'm hoping a little bit of digital forensics can provide some detail about the Orange Crush Festival happening this weekend.
The organizer of this festival is running on nothing but hype, period. The illusion of some massive party, without the actual party, at least not to the levels anticipated and alluded to. Instead, this appears to be a cut and run scam similar to Fyre Festival, where unwitting people will be paying premiums for tickets to events that either won't be happening, or won't be anything close to the experience the marketing has made it seem.
Let's start with the artificially inflated social media presence.
INSTAGRAM
Check out the Instagram profile for the festival: https://www.instagram.com/orangecrushlive/?hl=en
Note almost 40,000 followers, and almost 7,500 following. When you see following numbers that high, the odds are extremely high that they are utilizing an Instagram growth tactic known as follow-spamming. With this, they find relevant accounts and follow 100-200 a day. 7,500 is the most you can follow on Instagram, so the manager of the account likely hit that limit and is not starting to have to unfollow to be able to follow more.
Additionally, check out the engagement of their posts. Many of their posts have between 0 and 10 likes. Their most popular post as of late, this one with their itinerary, has 33 likes, likely because they utilized hashtags in that one. That engagement doesn't properly align with almost 40,000 followers. Instead, their true following is more like 500 to 1,500, and the remainder is purchased followers to artificially inflate "clout".
FACEBOOK
The same as above can be said for their Facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/OrangeCrushLive/. Close to 30,000 followers, yet next to no, if not no, engagement on their posts. The only exception is their pinned post from February 2019, which went "viral" after their last festival made local news due to the damage caused. Also, if you look at most of the comments from that video, many are the author spamming images, and/or from two years ago.
One can conclude that they have also purchased likes to their page, either that or many of their likes are from two years ago, and are likely not going to be the target audience for a "festival" hours away.
TWITTER
The same again can be said for their Twitter: https://twitter.com/orangecrushfest. Almost 9,000 followers, but zero engagement on t

FYI - if anyone wants a really early preview of the day's numbers, the data in the Google Sheet is updated 5-10 minutes before I post here. The preview has all of the case numbers for the day except for the vaccine and hospitalization numbers. If you do that though, please use the HTML link rather than the Google Sheets one because otherwise it really slows it down when I'm uploading the data.

History lesson: In 1616, Galileo was summoned by the Roman Inquisition and told to stop saying silly things like "the Earth and planets orbit around the Sun", or else. Galileo said sure (because it was better than dying). Galileo laid low until 1632 when he published a new book and was found guilty of (but not charged with) heresy anyway. Galileo then said sure my theory is wrong, the Earth doesn't move around the Sun, "And yet it moves"...
