Random thought - it's amazing just how different the topography/climate is between Cape Breton Island and Southwest Newfoundland considering they're only seperated by 140 km.
I just drove from Washingtron DC to St Anthony a few weeks ago. New England, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, while different in slight ways, all looked very similar to each other. That 90 miles of Cabot Strait must do something to the air because Port aux Basque truly felt subarctic and it looked like I was arriving in the desert Southwest of the USA with the lack of trees. Pretty cool if you ask me!
I can't wait to return. I don't know what it is about Newfoundland but I'm already thinking about my third visit.
