A list of puns related to "Canada geese in New Zealand"
From Trump to Brexit, to the rise of the far-right in Europe, I'm sure many of us are wondering why there has been a sudden rise of right-wing populism/nationalism in the last few years. However, it seems that Canada and New Zealand are some of the few remaining countries where these types of politics have yet to gain traction in mainstream politics
Their respective leaders, Trudeau and Ardern are often praised for their progressiveness, and their kind, empathetic approach to politics in a time when many politicians turn to populism and increasingly play the "us vs them" card. Many progressive Americans and Australians in particular, look to their respective "little brother" country as a shining example of what their countries should be in terms of social progress, race relations etc.
Why do you think Canada, and NZ, in particular, have largely resisted the rise of the right happening worldwide?
Do you think there will come a time when right-wing politics will make a comeback in Canada and NZ?
As a Canadian I'd like to know when it was decided I should be stuck in this frozen tundra with no way out! For colonies like America it's obvious when (1776 I take it?), but how about for colonies that didn't have such black and white distinction between colony and independent nation?
In 1900 could a Canadian have freely moved to Australia or England without visa sponsorship through a job on a very restrictive list of acceptable professions? If I wanted to go enjoy the nice weather down under could I just buy a boat ticket one day and go?

Spring isnβt here... but itβs coming
I get Kanopy through my library in the US. There is an app available on multiple platforms. I just watched the Ken Burns Vietnam War Documentary, which was mind blowing. There is tons of stuff on there, including the popular Criterion movies.
I'm able to comfortable fatFIRE in New Zealand (have permanent residency & $50m+ liquid assets) and am considering emigrating there with my family from the USA. I value the low crime, easy access to nature, and clean air/water. I know real estate is expensive but there are some beautiful properties there and I think the long term prospects are good. I have a business that I can operate remotely that is still generating cash flow as well -- it may be worthwhile to start a small office in NZ as well.
I'm also thinking of moving to Canada as it has many similarities to NZ but is much closer to the USA. I don't have residency in Canada though, so I would have to figure that out.
Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences about moving to another country from a fatFIRE standpoint specifically? What are some things to think about?
Also are there any fatFIRE posters from New Zealand or Australia here? How does being there impact your fatFIRE (for instance, the long distance from other countries)?
Thanks!
I have always had an itch to pack up and move somewhere new but it wasnβt until recently that I actually decided that it could be a reality. Iβm drawn to New Zealand because of the climate and all the outdoor activities there.
Iβm looking to get a holiday visa and work for up to a year. Iβm a 19 (F). Iβve never lived on my own before so it would be quite the change but I am open to it!
Has anyone done something similar and can offer advice? Iβm hoping on selling my car here to get some money and then moving in the fall and maybe hop around different hostels until I find a place I like, then find an apartment/car/job.
Whatβs it like in New Zealand as a young expat?
