I wear watches every day for what I do and have a decent collection to fit my needs with a reasonable price. Are those premium brands objectively better and worth the up charge?

Genuine question… I’ve been following this sub for a year or so…. Great source of knowledge, insight, advice and smirk….But I’m surprised (unless I’ve missed something) Breitling never, or rarely comes up. I get that Tag-Heuer (apart from vintage models) is not highly regarded because of its decline in quality over the past decade or so… but Breitling? How come? Is it because it’s not widely distributed in the US (I’m in Europe)? It’s a brand with solid history, some iconic watches, etc.? I’d be interested in hearing your comments (I don’t own any myself but I could well do with a reverse panda Navitimer! 😎)

Apologies in advance for this rant. I've wasted hours trying to make a simple return and have been stonewalled by Breitling at every turn.

This Christmas, I got my dad a Breitling Superocean 42 in celebration of a major milestone. He's had a Breitling chronograph for more than two decades, and in some watch hunting I did with him he seemed really drawn to sticking with the brand for his next time piece. I bought the watch at an authorized dealer on the bracelet, but I also wanted to get him a rubber strap to go with it. He did not like ones with "Breitling" written across, so I asked for the 22mm blue mesh option after being told by the salesperson that was the lug width. Only later would I find out this this information was incorrect, setting up this whole comedy of errors. The store did not have any in stock, so I was referred to the Breitling online boutique.

Here's where things began to go awry. Shame on me for not realizing this, but despite images showing all their straps with buckles, they are not included with the purchase of a strap. In fact, when you try to add a strap to your cart, the text "get an extra bucket for your strap" is displayed far more prominently than the "buckle not included" warning. Do any other watch companies do this? Seems like a grift to me.

I received the strap with no buckle and was very confused. I called customer support only to be made aware of my error. Selling straps without buckles and not drawing explicit attention to it still seems very cynical to me, but oh well.

Christmas was fast approaching so instead of ordering online again, I ran to the Breitling boutique in downtown Manhattan to try and purchase the buckle. They had it in stock, and fitted it to the strap which I had bought with me. Important to note here that the associate asked what kind of watch this was for, he made no mention of the fact that the 22mm mesh strap would not fit the 20mm lug width of the Superocean 42.

Strap with buckle in hand, I returned home. A couple days later ahead of Christmas I tried to put it on the watch. Immediately I realized it was too wide. I was annoyed but resigned myself to making the return after the holidays and going third party for a rubber strap.

Today’s video near the end he’s telling the girls about how within a few months he was living across the street from Moxys sports bar and eating there everyday. In addition, if you look at his Instagram profiles the dude has been working out in uptown Dallas as soon as he got out of jail. This dude either has money or came upon a trust fund. It’s obvious he is the cash provider to the business just by the way Marco let’s him spend whatever he wants.

I'm currently looking to buy my first breitling watch, I am looking for recommendations for something that will hold but preferably increase value with time (pun not intended). Ideally it would be something with a metal bracelet, I've looked into superoceans but I am open to other recommendations as I am new to the watch world. Thanks!
