Birds of Prey (team) Puns

(You can put an extra character to replace one of your four in case they die/decide to leave the time). Only major female character to not be here is Sara Lance, who would probably never leave the Legends at this point. China White/Cupid could be a Captain Cold situation in Legends season 1. For example my picks would be Black Canary, China White, Vixen, and Huntress, with Artemis, Katana, and Speedy being rotated in and out.

Still a good movie. Still didn’t like Cain, never liked that character archetype and I didn’t care for the final fight at the amusement park. Mainly who they fought. The goons felt more Joker than Black Mask.

- The film opens with Harley Quinn singing “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” while dressed as Marylin Monroe. This is quickly revealed to be a fantasy that Harley is having while being tortured.

- Harley addresses the audience and decides to tell them the story of how she got to this point.

- After the events of Suicide Squad, the Joker and Harley have fled back to Gotham. Deleted footage of Jared Leto from the film is used to showcase how abusive their relationship really is which culminates in the Joker breaking up with Harley and kicking her out of their house along with a small basket of her belongings.

- Homeless and without a friend in the world, Harley is taken in by a kind old man named Doc who owns a Taiwanese restaurant in the city. He allows her to stay in the apartment above his restaurant.

- Deciding to get over her post-breakup depression, Harley goes out clubbing. Unfortunately, she chooses to go to a club owned by Roman Sionis, a sadistic gangster who masquerades as a bubbly nightclub owner. Roman is obsessed with art and is extremely cruel and vicious.

- While at the club, Harley meets Dinah Lance, a talented singer who works for Roman. Dinah, similarly to Harley, is looking for a purpose in life.

- Harley gets really drunk and starts acting rowdy in the club, ending up breaking the legs of Roman’s driver. Roman’s thugs drag Harley outside because of this but Dinah saves her. Impressed by Dinah’s fighting skills, Roman makes her his new driver.

- Dinah drops Harley off at home. Harley decides to start anew. She cuts her hair, adopts a hyena from an exotic pet shop (who she calls Bruce Wayne and who kills and eats the sleazy pet shop owner) and blows up Ace Chemicals where she had pledged herself to Joker before truly becoming Harley Quinn, symbolically carving her own destiny and severing all ties to him. She also removes her “J” necklace and replaces it with a dog tag saying “Bruce” showing the new love of her life.

- Renee Montoya, a police detective in Gotham, arrives at the scene of the Ace Chemicals burning and determines that since Joker and Harley have broken up, Harley will be easy to capture and put behind bars.

- Cassandra Cain, a young orphan and street thief in Gotham, works for Roman as a thief. She steals a diamond for him with very important information on it. Roman sends Dinah and his top henchman, psychotic killer Victor Zsasz to retrieve it but Cass double crosses him and runs away, hoping to sell th

I was watching Chris Stuckmann’s review for Birds of Prey (he gave it a C+, if you were wondering) and he brought something up that I never realized before.

During his review he brought up “Joker” and how the media was aghast that a mass murdering psychopath is the protagonist of a movie... just like Birds of Prey, yet there wasn’t a peep of concern about it.

He said it was because while “Joker” had a serious tone, “Birds of Prey” is more comedic, but I think we all know the true reason.

It starts with Harley telling her origin in cartoon. The entire movie is narrated by her. She just broke up with joker, was taking it bad, and hasn't anyone. The movie is nonlinear so this may not be in chronological order.

Harley pisses off black mask by crippling his driver. She goes on a several day bender and while drunk steals a gas tanker and blows up Ace chemical. Somehow Rene Montoya is able to magicly know that Harley did it as her way of getting over Joker. In fact everyone jumps to this conclusion. Black mask puts a hit out on Harley.

Cut to Black Canary calling Montoya saying that everyone is after Cassandra Cain. Every time someone is introduced it cuts to thier origin. Black Canary is a lounge singer at black masks club. After saving Harley from being raped, Black Mask makes her his new driver. She spends most of the movie as his driver informing Montoya.

Cut to Montoya who is every cop cliche. Partner stole her career making arrest. No one gives her credit. Spends half the movie in a "I shaved my balls for this shirt" then Harley breaks into the police station wielding a bean bag shotgun

Cut to Harley being chased by Montoya. Harley got an egg sandwich which she was craving and after a Chase scene, Montoya knocks the sandwich out of her hand. Harley swears revenge, escapes and is captured by black mask. Black mask threatens to murder her and she offers to get Cassandra Cain for him after hearing that Cassandra swallowed the diamond. Black mask puts a half million dollar reward out for Cassandra.

Cut back to Harley attacking the police station with a bean bag shotgun. God there are a lot of cuts in this movie. The police are the most enough police force ever. Harley finally makes it to where Cassandra is held and accidentally releases all the prisoners. She beats them all up with ballet moves and gymnastics and then chases Cassandra through the police station. They end up in the evidence room when a bunch of mercenaries catch up to them. Harley beats up all the mercenaries effortlessly. Then a bunch of gun wielding mercenaries appear. Harley takes cover behind a pallet of cocaine and after breathing in a bunch of cocaine that has been shot into her face she is able to disarm all the gun-wielding opponents and break most of their legs.

She then tricks Cassandra into trusting her and starts teaching her life lessons. After a shopping trip and introducing her to her Chinese landlord, Harley takes her to her apartment where they eat cere

I'll start

Treating a spin-off of one of the worst blockbusters of the decade like it's an indy arthouse film

Marketing campaign. Also confusion from the campaign between the name and the film itself.

Confusing the audience by spinning of a character from a team up origin (SS) to AGAIN another team up origin but even less known (imagine if Starlord was spinned off to another team up origin after the first GotG)

Making a fun comic book movie while removing a lot of comic book aesthetic from it (costumes, scale)

Making it R rated while not being necessary

Removing half (Joker) of what drew the audience on the character from the equation.

1. It is alleged to be just 109 mins long which is much shorter than average superhero movies. It reminds us all of the stink of Justice League which is under 2 hours at the behest of Warner Bros CEO.

2. The trailer views and likes are even less than Charlie's Angels on YouTube.

3. I know that Charlie's Angels is not a great film. Despite that, its performance clearly tells that the audience don't demand female-team up films that much.

It will be lucky to have around 250 million WW. If this film fails, we won't see any female-team up movie for a very long time.
