The Battle of Carrhae is one of the most significant battles in history. Crassus, a member of the First Triumvirate, tried to invade Parthia, an Iranic empire and rival to the Romans, in 53 BC. The numerically superior Romans were defeated by Parthians who used Scythian bow and arrow tactics to humiliate them, and Crassus himself was killed in typical Iranian fashion (murdered during a parley), leading to world changing ripples.
Not a lot of people know that it was Arab ruler of Edessa at the time Abghar II (under the name "Ariamnes") who not only convinced Crassus to go with his invasion, but he lured him to skip going through Armenia by using a direct desert route instead. Abghar was trusted by the Romans but he was in fact allied with the Iranians. Helead the Roman army to the most desolate part of the desert, urging him to attack at once when news arrived that would've made him go through Armenia. He claimed the Parthian army was not yet prepared and it worked, leading the Roman army to one of its biggest losses, with Abghar described as "the chief and most fatal" architect of this loss.

Another thing is how Crassus's tactics was simply wait for the Parthians to run out of arrows, which did happen, until thousands of camels resupplied the army with them. Iranian people didn't ride camels.
I was reading about the battle of Carrhae and got interested in it. I just can't find any information about which legions fought at the battle. Is the information lost in history, or can you help me?
Maybe the battle was not as brutal but was enough to convince him to cancel his campaign. Would he go back on campaign? or bide his time in Syria (where he was governor).
Would Caesar's victory at Alesia still lead to his march on the Rubicon with Crassus still in the Triumvirate?

Context:
After the disastrous battle, Crassus and most of his remaining troops retreated to the desert town of Carrhae to regroup and plan their next move. Even though he had scored a decisive victory on the battlefield, Surenas -- the Parthian commander -- knew that he needed to capture Crassus dead or alive in order to win the war.
>At this point, both Crassus and Surenas were locked in an odd game of cat and mouse. Surenas was not exactly sure of where Crassus was, whilst Crassus and his army had to evade the Parthians and seek the refuge of either Armenia or Syria. Although Carrhae was the most logical place for Crassus to make for, Surenas could not be certain. Added to this, Plutarch states that Surenas received a report (from whom we are never told, nor are we told how Plutarchโs source got to know of this) that Crassus was not in Carrhae and was in fact heading for the border. This would have left Surenas in something of a dilemma. However, he soon came up with a plan to resolve it by sending a man up to the walls of Carrhae and requesting a peace conference between himself and Crassus, to organise a truce and a safe withdrawal of the Roman forces from the towns and cities of Mesopotamia. Whilst the evacuation of the occupying Roman garrisons was a necessary move for the Parthians, Surenas needed to locate Crassus, dead or alive, even more. Plutarch reports that Cassius took the bait and reported back to Surenasโ emissary that Crassus would be willing to meet with him, which only served to confirm Crassusโ presence within the town. By this simple ruse and by Cassiusโ short-sightedness, the Parthians now knew where to end this war and Surenas moved his entire army towards the town of Carrhae.

Cassius escaped from Parthia and managed to organize the scattered remnants of Crassus' army into two legions and mount a very successful defence of Syria. He would later go on to be one of the ringleaders of the Ides of March plot against the newly appointed Dictator for Life Julius Caesar in 44 B.C. I got bumped here by Ask Historians. I have never been on this subreddit before and, therefore, I have no idea whether it's a repost.
