A list of puns related to "Baron Vaughn"
Doug welcomes Jon Gabrus, Amy Miller and Baron Vaughn to the show.
Rewatching the Gauntlet this week and i continue to be impressed by Baronβs range. He goes from Southern dandy smarminess to too-cute little girl voice in nothing flat. he sings beautifully. he destroyed the bar for songs with his performance of Concepts. if i could make one suggestion itβs that he sometimes seems to deliver his sing-songy lines too quietly or maybe close-mic. I want to hear him full-throated instead of the faux-whispery (though that happens way less in S12 than it did in S11.)
anyway, i hate tom servoβs new voice! long live tom servoβs new voice!
edit: this post is not to say that the other two in the SOL arenβt great, too. i just donβt hear a lot of praise for Baron and he very much deserves it.

I can currently be seen on Netflix's βGrace & Frankie,β a documentary I created called βFatherlessβ on Fusion, and last, but not least, I am the new voice of Tom Servo in the revival of βMystery Science Theatre 3000β premiering on Netflix this Friday, April 14th. That's right: they call me Johnny Projects.

And I see i wrote yesterday's date in my proof. Proof that I'm "overworked".
WELLLL
This was fun. We shall do it again some other another. Good day. And good een.

The choice was made by people who weren't Baron Vaughn that he needed to sound more like Kevin Murphy. There's only so much talking in your chest you can do to make your voice deeper, and rather than pitch shift and bass boost his voice and risk it sounding totally weird, they decided to use more theatrical takes. Maybe they were the takes that were the furthest from his nasal cavity.
Since the riffs were recorded in a sound studio, they probably had him do multiple takes, and went with the stilted ones. Maybe they were ALL unnatural, theatrical takes, but maybe he did some that were more natural and conversational, but they were deemed too nasally. So you get the out of place, vocal burn-y, rushed voices he throws in.
And the rushed takes were something else entirely, and it's something that effects the entire cast, not just Baron. Baron is just the most effected by it because he has to rush lines on top of straining his voice in these cartoony ways. Jonah mumbles as a result of it, and if it weren't for the subtitles I wouldn't know what he and Baron were saying sometimes. Hampton Yount's doing just fine in terms of being understood, but fuck me if there weren't takes where I wish he was slower.
These are all decisions that weren't made by the voice talent, they are the result of every part of a rushed and slightly confused creative team working to fulfill the expectations of horrendously picky superfans of one of the most beloved TV comedies of all time. It would be like expecting someone to do a good new Homer Simpson voice on a Simpsons reboot, and telling him to do it REALLY FAST.
They get better as the season goes on, I haven't even finished it yet. They made 14 episodes for us. I'm sure as the next season gets developed, people involved in the show will read all of your complaints/the cast will get more comfortable in their roles/the writing team can chill on the zinger density and Baron will get better notes on how to portray the character.

At the top of the show, Adam chats with the gang about this weekendβs Mangria bar crawl in Denver. The guys talk about how nice it is to have such great fans, and the craziness that is Ray. After that, the guys go into the horrible act of terrorism that occurred in Orlando over the weekend. Adam emphasizes the importance of intelligence, and why we should maybe start judging people. The guys then jump to the phones to answer questions about a hypothetical boxing match, how to have a standup career in todayβs sensitive climate, and how Adam defines atheism and capitalism.
Baron Vaughn is in studio next, and Adam chats with him about his standup career as well as experiences had alongside an all-star cast for the Netflix series, βGrace & Frankieβ. Gina then begins the news with more on the Orlando massacre. The group also talks about an attempted attack at the LA Gay Pride event, and the show wraps up with a discussion of whether or not weβve already become a police state.
