Who β€œwon” the Anglo-Spanish war of 1585-1604?

In other words, the war of the notorious Spanish Armada. The Treaty of London that ended this conflict, signed in 1604, seems to have restored the territorial status quo ante bellum, but who was benefited more and harmed less by its terms, Spain or England?

I ask because there seems to be a nationalist conflict even now about who actually came out on top. Spanish and English Wikipedia openly contradict each other. So if we lay aside all nationalism and stick as strictly as possible to an objective interpretation of facts, who β€œwon” that war?

What if Britain won the Anglo-Spanish War (1796–1808)?

What if they win it by Horatio nelson being born and joining the army a dozen years earlier and fighting in this war during the time in between the Battles of Hyères Islands & Cape St Vincent . Having such a great general could definitely tip the balance in the favor of the British especially since in TTL at this time he'd have as much experience as he had during the War of the Second Coalition in OTL and I think they could even win the war by 1797. Anyway what if thanks to more crushing defeats inflicted on the Spanish they are forced to Cede what is modern day Venezuela to the Brits

HH topic suggestion: Anglo-Spanish war in the Caribbean

I'm reading The Sugar Barons, by Matthew Parker, about the history of Barbados and Jamaica and the broader colonial conflicts in the Caribbean under Cromwell and thought this would make a wonderful topic for a future HH-episode. (although I guess Dan's 'wish list' is pretty long already).

Especially the British attempted invasion of Hispaniola in 1654 and the actual invasion of Jamaica seem to contain everything one could want in an HH-episode: Wealth, war, famine, incompetence, heroics, lots of original sourcing for quotes. Not every writer was a confident speller and/or the English language was in development so there are lots of 'ennimis on ye iland' type phrases.

Anyway, just thought to mention it and to recommend The Sugar Barons. It's a really good read!

[scenario] Anglo Spanish War of 2018 over Gibraltar

Tensions escalate over deadlock at the Brexit talks and internal tensions over indecision about the Catalonia/Basque issues and high unemployment prompt rogue military and police elements to act.

Spanish Guardia Civil storm across the line to seize Police Stations, Parliament House, Courts but fall short of storming barracks at the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, RAF Gibraltar at the Airport and HM Gibraltar Naval base at the docks.

The Spanish Military Junta are calling this a success and action speaks better then words as a call for national unity.

Would things escalate from here? What is a proportional response by the UK? Other drivers? Possible resolution? How would it all go wrong?

The truth, however, is far more complicated. This episode is going to explore that famous battle and look at the long-ranging consequences that came out of the English victory.
