A list of puns related to "Adaptations of works by Robert E. Howard"
Petri Hiltunen,a key figure of Finnish comics scene adapted this standalone R.E.H short story during the 80's and thankfully we have an English fan-translation to enjoy this excellent comic.
The artwork here is great.Black and white artwork with stylized, expressive characters, heavy lines and shading which captures the moody intensity of the story.
The story is quintessential Robert E Howard and easily one of his best,a re-telling of the famous Battle of Clontarf with Howardian fantasy elements i.e. fatalism, doomful visions, and the rise and fall of eras/powers etc.I don't want to mention the finer details of the plot but if you're in the mood of quality historical-fantasy/sword and sorcery, this one is definitely worth checking out. Other than some early exposition to set up the main character, there aren't any major flaws in this 64 page comic.
Hiltunen had produced a lot quality comic albums,Adaptations of Robert E Howard stories,Macbeth,Finnish, and Russian legends etc but only Queen of the Black Coast and The Grey God Passes have English fan translations.
I don't know if can post any download links here but anyone interested in these comics can find them on The Swords of Robert E Howard fan forum.
While many folks swear by "Pigeons from Hell" or "The Black Stone," I have to admit my favorite is "Old Garfield's Heart."
I like the majority of Howard's stuff, a decent bit of Burroughs's stuff, and suprisingly enough most of the Kane novels.
I don't need this to be a typical sword and sorcery setting. sword and planet, caveman (with or without dinosaur), aliens, and a bunch of other stuff is fine.
