When you compare some starting spellbooks, dcss has really been given some serious flare in recent versions

Fire and ice magic, especially, have become much more interesting. Foxfires with scorch punches are a really neat dynamic when compared to the old boring starting book, which was really conventional.

Ice magic is night and day different, and full of strategy and flare, with just ramparts, hailstorm, and the omission of boring bolty spells

Spells like manifold assault and Cactus Boy take a lot of the attention, but for those of us that found early casting boring and conventional, just a few tweaks has really turned it around.

I'd still like to see, maybe, a single spell to fix-up Warpers. I still find their starting experience very strange.

Okay so I'm looking for scenes where people haven't seen each other for a long time (years) and then see each other again for the first time. Bonus points if they have changed a lot lookwise (visibly older etc)

I'm thinking of something like the Notebook, where she visits him at the house he built. Or that last third of Moonlight when the 2 guys meet again and the main character is all jacked and tough looking now.

I’ve called a few local gyms and it seems like their trainers know less than I do and are only interested in walking around and making sure you’re using the equipment correctly.

I would just like to give me humble recommendation to people who have completed an introductory course like LLPSI or Wheelock, but are still a long way from fluent reading of unadapted Latin.

I've found numerous accelerated readers on Kindle that answer to that purpose - Fabulae Faciles, Gallic Wars, Seneca's letters, etc.

I can't overstate how good they are!

You don't need to stumble over words you don't know or decode the grammar. The English translation included on the page does that work for you.

As the text is only presented in bite-size pieces, it doesn't become overly tiring going back and forth between the original text and translation. You can read fluently.

Once you're confident with the text, you can read the original without the translation as a help.

Interlinear texts do something similar, but can be very cluttered, have unnatural English and rearrange the word order of the Latin to make the translation easier to understand. You have to select wisely.

I think once you've done the hard work of learning the grammar and basic vocabulary, you should be able to enjoy the language without having to struggle through it. Accelerated Readers help you do just that. Your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar will improve along the way, along with your reading ability.

They should be a useful complement - they don't have to be relied upon alone.
