With the Summer Transfer Window closed, the big story out of Exeter City on September first was the team landing right-midfielder Abou Ouattara from Lille. The fee was undisclosed, but sources say Exeter, financially stable after two consecutive seasons of promotion and the sale of some youth prospects, triggered a release clause in the realm of 5.1 million. Ouattara did not disappoint, however, providing the winning assist in the thrilling match against Cardiff City on his debut.
Exeter used the transfer window to aggressively reshape a defense that was middle-of-the road in league 1 last season, landing American center-back Tim Parker from New York Red Bulls and the Argentine David Martinez, both on free transfers. Highly rated defender Andreas Hanche-Olsen moves to the right side of defense, where he will split time with youth prospect Liam Gallagher; while Nathan Wood will likely earn time as a defensive sub.
Exeter are rumored to have swatted away last-minute bids on winger Randell Williams, who remains the starter on the right. Meanwhile, the team's investment in youth continues to grow. Director of Football Julian Tagg notes "we have three lads who really have the potential to be special, in Antonio [Marin, left-wing], James [Scott, striker], and Lewis [Ferguson, central midfielder]. They have been the core of the team's success and we have just secured new contracts for all of them."
The youth academy continues to develop key players, as left-back Jack Sparkes continues to show his great potential, and center-mid Archie Collins looks to repeat his 12-goal campaign from last season.
The team also successfully added depth for cup runs and the inevitable holiday fixture congestion, with youth academy graduate Angus Stewart joining the first team alongside Callum Reilly, who arrived from Plymouth Argyle.
All in all, pundits say, it was a successful transfer window for Exeter, who avoided losing key players, while adding strength in the middle of the park, and reinventing their leaky defence. Will it pay dividends in the team's first season in the Championship? Only time will tell, but the team sits in 7th after 7 games, posting 4 wins in that time.
Readers, what are your thoughts? Can fan-owned Exeter survive the rigors of the Championship with this team?

I have been watching quite a lot of APL this season (now that it is on YouTube) and have created my own Top 8 ranking of the best Armenian players in the league based on performance in this 21/22 season so far. This is my opinion and I was wondering what you guys thought and what your own rankings would be.
